Back during the era of flip phones, I was in the grocery store and a woman was walking around shouting into her cell phone about some medical stuff we shouldn’t have been privy to. Some guy reached out and snapped it shut. And kept walking. 😂 That's awesome! One time I was on the train coming home from work, some woman was testing out all of her ring tones. It lasted a minute before someone yelled at her.

I am a hairdresser, and I absolutely hate when my clients play a constant stream of tik toks the entire time they’re in my chair. The non stop 20-30 seconds of noise then immediately to another noise and another and another……. 🤯🤯🤯🤯 That is super rude to be on their phone at all while they are in your chair.
Today at lunch, we were at a Hibachi restuarant so you sit with strangers. There was a couple with their 2 small children (ages 4 & 1), my co-worker and I and 2 other women that appeared to not be together or know each other. The children were so good and well behaved, even the little one. One of the other women though..she talked on her phone the entire time...when ordering, when eating, when asked if she wanted more sauce and drinks - I mean for a full hour and a half and of course she was loud and we could tell it was just a non important personal call. The girl sitting next to her kept giving her "the look" (as if to say, you are being so obnoxious) but she was too busy blabbing her mouth the whole time that she didn't notice.

That is super rude to be on their phone at all while they are in your chair. Seriously??? It takes 3ish hours to get my hair done. My stylist and I chat some but three hours of forced conversation is an awful lot. I think it would be rude to be on calls or playing any audio/video (because obvs you can't use headphones while getting your hair done), but I don't think there's anything wrong with reading, writing, etc. on your phone while you're getting your hair done.

I am currently staying in a suites hotel and there was a dude in the lobby taking a business Zoom on his computer. I mean, he literally has a room with a little mini-office! I asked him to keep it down and he did leave, but yeesh.

It takes me about 3 hours too, but I'm not in her chair the whole time. When I am in her chair, I just sit there and sometimes chat with the stylist...while I am sitting off elsewhere (waiting for color to set in for example) or if she is attending to another client, then I may get on my phone (no sound on though), but when I am sitting in her chair and she is in the process of putting color on my hair or cutting it, I give her my full attention.

Once a friend of mine was waiting in line in a packed post office during the holiday season and some self absorbed asshat a few people in front of her was yakking loudly on his cellphone nonstop. My friend called him out as he was leaving, saying no one appreciated having to overhear his conversation and everyone else applauded. 🤣

We went out for Valentine’s Day and we had a lovely table by the window and front door. Some guy stood right by our table and several others talking loudly on his phone. We politely asked the hostess to ask him to step outside. She floundered around too embarrassed to approach him until she finally called the manager who handled it and apologized to all the customers. What was the guy thinking? So rude.

This was my question too. Just to gently share, a continuous sound (song, dialogue, etc) that is just at the edge of hearing can be just as... unpleasant? unwelcome? as louder sounds. I find that my brain constantly focuses in on that, picking up just enough that it's trying to sort out what it's hearing, making it almost impossible to focus on anything else. Well would you rather head my son scream and cry due to his medical PTSD?
Or head him hum and flap his hands over and over?
Like seriouisly people sound happens. If you dont like it, get noise canceling ear buds or headphones. You can solve the problem too and not make others have to deal with your sound issues And this is where the rubber meets the road in these discussions. We all have different degrees of sound tolerance, different mechanisms to cope etc. So who, for a lack of a better word, wins? The kids who need to listen to their phones/tablets to keep focused or the person who can't tolerate that repetitive background noise? One person says "would you prefer he screams".. or you put on noise canceling headsets, the other person thinks that the person listening to music can just as easily wear ear pods or a blue tooth head set, and well, around and around we go.

I don’t mind someone being on their phone while I’m doing their color but the constant noise of tik tok puts me over the edge. It’s 10-20 seconds of one noise, changing into 10-20 seconds of another noise, over Andover and over and over. 🤯🤯🤯🤯
