I will start by saying that I like wood ... I have many wood pieces of furniture that I love! The other thread about keeping cabinets and woodwork in their original state was eye opening in the hatred shown for the white and grey colour scheme that is popular right now ... I say this because I recently renovated a 1988 oak based home to this scheme to sell and made money on it because of those changes and moved into a condo with that colour scheme and I love it! Here are a few photos: The old oak kitchen cabinets in the house: Painted cabinets: A shot of my living room in my condo ... grey flooring with grey furniture ... along with wood! I can't be the only one who enjoys this trend or it wouldn't be popular! Tell me I'm not alone!

You aren't alone. There are a lot of people who like it. I just don't care for the color grey. I also don't love oak either. We switched that out for a hickory. I like some pattern in my wood, I guess. I was watching HGTV today and one of the flippers was saying that they are going away from grey to warm colors and black. I think everything, well almost everything comes back around eventually.

I like white walls. I like white cabinets, but that would not be my first choice of colors. I do not like gray anything. I do not like different color cabinets. Meaning upper one color, lower another color). I like all the cabinets and the island(if there is one) to be the same color.
I am very matchy-match.

We're planning bluish gray cabinets for our kitchen remodel. Our family room and kitchen walls are gray and the ceilings are white. I'm all for it.

I prefer warm colors. One of the reasons we bought our current place was because while it had been gutted and remodeled in a modern style, they had stuck to beige, cream, and warm gray/griege. And then I brought in all my brightly colored furniture and accents because all neutrals makes me sad. Ha ha.
I don’t hate wood, though - our floors are dark hardwood, some of the furniture is dark stained wood, and we covered the vaulted ceiling in the family room with reclaimed cedar planks (lightly whitewashed) and a dark beam running down the middle. The light fixtures in that room are also dark wood and black metal. What I do not like is anything that looks too matchy or one-note.

I like the new kitchen better than the old one. But eventually like everything else, I would get tired of it and want to go with warm colors. But definitely no oak. Oak can stay in stay in the 80's forever. I don't really care for any dark woods.

I like grey, and also black and white. I do like that kitchen you posted, I also like wood flooring for the other rooms (dining, family, living, bedrooms).

I don't mind grey/white for other people - it can look quite nice. But it's not for me

Gray is the color of depression and white is the color of hospitals and insane asylums.
I don’t want any of that in my house.

I somewhat like the white and grey look I'm just tired of it because it seems like that is what is in every house for the last five years. For my own house I prefer bright colors. I'm slowly redoing my kitchen and my existing countertop is white and grey so I'll be incorporating some of that but also painting the walls a nice teal color to keep it from looking too sterile and HGTV for my liking.

I love grey and white, it's so soothing. I can add color with art, fabrics, etc.
But i did recently finish the basement and went with a sort of taupe grey greige with lvp that can go warm or cool and right now I've got warm wood tones in there with bright fabric accents and a tan couch. I used all my old shitty furniture and it now looks great, pulled together, and cozy!
So i have both going on. Each has its appeal. I don't care who doesn't like white or grey, I don't have to live with them.

Gotta love the staging in the second one you linked…all the white t-shirts hanging in the closet cracked me up. 😄

You aren’t alone. We are currently sampling paints and I can’t help it, I just love this combo. It looks fresh and clean and bright to me.

I painted the interior of my last house grey around 2012/2013. I obviously like the color, and always have, but it is dated to me just because it’s what I chose 10 years ago.
I also think it’s necessary to balance grey with warm wood tones, and a lot of people, particularly flippers, don’t, which gives a very cold, bland, sterile feel.
We went with “insane asylum white” in our current house. 🤪

I'm with you leannec . The kitchen in the before photo is dated and blah to me. I really really dislike timber cabinets, probably because I lived with them for 50 years! I love the grey and white of the new kitchen. We renovated our kitchen in 2017, and some of the cabinets are charcoal and the others are white. The benchtop is light grey, the sink is black. The splashback is turquoise - the obligatory splash of colour! Our lounge room also has a white, black, and grey colour scheme: grey carpet, black TV cabinet, black couch, black coffee table, white walls, white sheer s-fold curtains over light grey blinds.

Your upgrade looks great; wow, what a difference. Every new home I’ve looked at is done in neutrals — white, cream, black, gray. There is a reason for that - people like it and it sells. You can add any other color furniture, or accents, and it works. You can bring wood in via floors, a wood accent wall, and furniture (especially tables). Or you can do wood open shelving instead of cabinets.

I love grey and white - as long as it is a restful cool grey; I very much dislike greys that are yellow-based. Your kitchen is just gorgeous, I would have that colour scheme in a heartbeat.

I was sick to the back teeth of living with wood cabinets in my kitchen and swopped them for hospital white and asylum grey (actually a blue grey) last year. I love it and can change accessories/curtains/walls for a different look if I wish.
Your after photos are such an improvement imho.

There is a lot of room between this gray look and the before of your kitchen. I have nearly the same kitchen cabinets. But mine are painted a medium taupe color. The walls are two shades lighter on the chip so a very light taupe. My counters are a cream color. And my soffits are painted orange. There is also open shelving with my brightly colored fiestaware. Fiestaware canisters. And a turquoise KitchenAid mixer on my counter. I also have a brightly colored stained glass window in my kitchen. I have stainless steel appliances.
My living room is a pale creamy yellow. All my furniture is a dark brown. My curtains are a blue with muted gray and taupe circle rings on them. When I do my dining room this spring, it will have the same color walls and curtains. I also will have a blue/white fabric on my dining chairs.
All the woodwork in my house is white. And my floors are real hardwoods in a very very warm medium toned wood. All the furniture in my living and dining rooms are a dark wood.
That creamy light yellow is in my opinion a colored neutral. I think there is a lot of room between gray/white and what you had in your old kitchen.
I saw pictures of your house remodel with the staging and it wouldn't have appealed to me. However, that would not have put me off as a buyer, but I would have had to paint before moving in. I wouldn't be happy there. I think there is such a thing as a good balance between color and neutral that can be had in common rooms. I also think that there needs to be some thought given to the style of the house as well. Most of these kitchen renovations that are going on in this style do not fit with the age of the house.
I would not be happy in a gray/white house. It doesn't fit with my mood disorder.

Gray is the color of depression and white is the color of hospitals and insane asylums. I don’t want any of that in my house. I'm really interested to know what you have in your house. My kitchen has white cabinets, with beech worktops, terracotta floor and wall tiles, and the walls are painted pale blue. I love it. Other than that, we also have very little white and the only grey is in DH's man-cave. Our bathroom is currently wood panelling with yellow painted walls and white sanitary-ware, but we're planning to take the bathtub out and replace it with a walk-in shower. When we do that, we'll change the colour scheme and we're thinking about white and grey, or white and mushroom. I don't want a cold-looking bathroom. I do like the white and grey look, but not for us. We have a lot of cream and warm colours. Our house is not trendy, but it's comfortable and we like it.

I like wood grain. But I am not fond of the muddy brown wood stains from the 60’s.
I like lighter wood, sure even gray wood. And yes, gray is a natural wood tone, it’s what natural wood weathers to.
If I could snap my fingers I’d refinish all the wood in my home to a lighter finish. I can’t really afford a professional to do it right now but I’m not fond of its medium blah color. But I love the wood. ( it’s not oak it’s mostly pine actually ) I’m not up to doing it myself either right now.

I like your look for the kitchen. Personally I love color. I like white and gray as a base. My gray is more taupe/gray. I intended to paint my walls gray but I just couldn't do it so they went back to the light aqua green which I love. Floors are gray/taupe. Trim and cabinets are white. I really didn't think this gray trend would stick. There was a time in the 80's when gray was popular but that quickly changed to more beige tones and I expected the same this time but I was wrong.

I love a pale gray wall with white trim.
My house is entirely beige walls with oak trim.
Since breaking his back and being home for a full month, I think DH (66) is finally ready to commit to being retired. He has spent his time redesigning my kitchen and working on a plan for other renovations. He had already started some kitchen renovations which are on hold until he is cleared by the doctors, and his revisions to the plan will keep those.
We aren’t buying new cabinetry. I have hickory cabinets, and they look good with the gray paint I selected. He is considering painting over the white trim and doors, though, and maybe eventually painting the cabinets. He’s afraid of being bored in retirement, so I think this will eventually happen. We have white appliances that are 10 years old, and as they need to be replaced, I’ll be getting stainless steel since I like that look better with my future potentially-white cabinets LOL.

I love the original cherry wood trim in my house. In the rooms where the trim is still stained wood, the walls are cool-colored and furniture is neutral.
Bathroom and kitchen have painted trim. Kitchen is pretty much black and white with gray touches. Bathroom is mostly white. I'm stuck with an ugly gray-blue vanity and dark blue accents until later this summer when I refresh the paint. The flooring in there is this ugly terra Cotta tiles that are cracked and crooked. I'm stuck with that until we get a second bathroom installed because the bathroom needs to be gutted.
I like white and gray for certain rooms but not the whole house.
