I did a bit of searching last night, but I haven't been able to find a suitable lens yet. None of the ones I found on Amazon will work with any of the iPhones that have the three cameras, which mine does (12 Pro Max). I will have to keep looking. If you want to just use a phone, consider buying a gimbal. That looks really good! I already have a tripod/selfie stick with remote for my phone. But the Gimbal looks like it folds up smaller, and the bottom of it looks more like a handle when folded up, compared to mine. ETA: Oh bummer, I just read some reviews, which say that it does not fit a 12 Pro Max! Grrrrr.

There are several YouTube videos of people comparing their phones with a DLSR and it looks like unless you’re a serious photographer who takes the time to meticulously setup your shots or who brings a tripod, the later model iPhones do almost just as well. I was looking because I’m going to Alaska in a few weeks. I’ve decided to just take my phone.

You won't need your DSLR most of the time, but a lot of the coolest photos in Singapore are at night light the light show at Marina Bay Sands and the Super Trees at Gardens by the Bay. We were staying across the bay from Marina Bay Sands so I brought a tripod. Remember that it's more humid than you can imagine so you have to let your lenses acclimate after taking them out of the AC or they'll fog. Where are you going in Thailand? We liked Chiang Mai and Phi Phi Islands rather than Bangkok and Phuket where lot of the tours go. Wherever you go it's going to be a fabulous trip! SingaporeThailand

We are spending 3 nights in Bangkok, 7 nights on Koh Samui, then 4 nights in Singapore. It was supposed to be only 3 nights in Singapore but our flight got cancelled so we had to get one the following day. The only reason we're spending 3 nights in Bangkok is because our friends had already booked it before they invited us along.

I'm a serious photographer but I don't take the time to meticulously set up every shot, nor do I bring a tripod. I also don't have a later model Iphone. I think mine is an Iphone 7 plus. It'd be much more expensive for me to update my Iphone than for me to just take the Nikon D3300 I already have with it's 18-200mm lens. I am planning to buy a new wide angle lens I intend for around $200.00.

We are spending 3 nights in Bangkok, 7 nights on Koh Samui, then 4 nights in Singapore. I lived in Hong Kong and Thailand was a weekend trip. My daughter & a lot of the kids from her school went to Koh Samui for spring break in high school. It was like going to Daytona here. In Singapore, the best views are from the Fullerton or Raffles. The Asian Civilizations Museum is cool and so is the Botanical Garden. I liked Little India, the Bum Boats, the night market and the Clark Quay area for live music. I am planning to buy a new wide-angle lens I intend for around $200.00. For about $300 a used 17-55 f2.8 will give you sharper photos and a wider aperture than the 18-200. Since it's a DX lens, you get more like an 80mm zoom. I broke my 18-200 and replaced it with this lens and it's a huge difference. I have a Tamron 12-25 wide angle that I love and I've hardly used it since I got this lens. It was $1,500 when it first came out.

I have decided to only bring my dSLR when I am trying to photograph wildlife that may be VERY FAR AWAY....that is to say, when I visit Africa (we have a safari planned for next year) or perhaps if I ever go see the orangutans. I have an underwater camera set up for when I go diving; that, I bring EVERY dive trip. I have been to Europe multiple times with 'just' my iPhone and have been very pleased. I do not intend to change that approach in the near future.

I am going to seriously consider it. I have an extra week for solo travel after DH leaves Germany (after our 2 week trip) to go home (he has to return for work) and I was going to stay in Germany in the southern area-in Berchtesgaden. Then I got the great idea to instead hop a plan to Brussels from Munich (it's fairly cheap) and then take the train to Bruges, Belgium and spend the week there instead. I'm planning to take day trips to Ghent and other places (luckily Belgium is very small) and I having a fast wide angle lens would be great for night time shots of the canal in Bruges especially since I don't want to carry a tripod.

The thing I miss most when only using my phone is the zoom. Thanks to this thread, I'm going to invest in the Moment 58mm lens when it comes back in stock. I think that might give me what I'm missing. I'll have the opportunity to test it out (1) at a Taylor Swift show in July and then (2) on a trip to Japan later in the summer.

I'm going to weigh in one more time. You're probably not, but if you use your DSLR on the auto settings, leave it home. Iphones are so good now that unless you're making specific adjustments or using better lenses when you're taking photos, there's no benefit to using a DSLR. Happy shooting!

My daughter and I went to Paris in March and I only took my phone. I was happy with my pictures and did not regret having just my phone. I mainly use my DSLR for hiking/backpacking trips, landscape photos, and portrait shots. ETA: I've had many occasions where I could compare phone pictures with my DSLR (either I used both or I was shooting with my camera and my husband was using his phone). When I get the pictures on the computer, the DSLR photos are better as far as colors (I shoot in RAW and edit in LR/PS), but the phone does a great job in most situations (mainly daylight) and is sufficient. The DSLR wins out for low light conditions when I'm using my tripod and GND filters. I also find it better for portraits, especially since those sometimes require more editing. Any large prints I have made have come from my camera.

I think you should travel w/me. Then I'll bring the camera. You've chosen fantastic destinations. While a phone can take decent photos, for those regions I would want a camera that takes really clear bright photos.

I think it also depends on how picky your are about your photos. My friend always brings their camera for vacation/landscape photos. They are so much better than my cell phone pics (granted, I'm not the best photographer and my cell phone is old). Also, something else to consider, my cell phone was acting up on my last vacation so I was dependent on other people's photos for part of the trip.
