I guess manufacturer suggestions more than shopping ideas. We like transitional, modern clean lines- something that will last through decorating trends.
The style I like can be found at Mitchell Gold, Crate&Barrel, even Macys, LazyBoy, and our local Leather sofa company. So style's not an issue- I'm a little boring.
But prices vary and I need one with a great frame and cushions that hold up. I hate saggy upholstery. I'd go with the Micthel Gold and be done, but I have a chair from when it was at RH and it got soft too soon. It didn't continue, and is probably o.k. for a chair it's age now but it's bothered me.
Anyone have a manufacturer you love that's held up structurally?

The last soda we bought was mitchel gold. It's in our family room getting daily use, is two years old and still looks brand new, so we're happy.
We were looking at sofa'a yesterday because we are turning our playroom into a den. We herefore need a sofa that will stand up as the kids will be all over it. They want something they can eat on and jump on, we want something that will last but won't look junky. Our house is very small, so anything I put into it i like to be very nice. We are also doing a sleeper sofa for the option of having guests and because the room has an ensuite, so girls can have sleepovers down there when they're older and want to be on a different house level from us.
Our two choices are mitchel gold and west elm. Both nice. Mitchel gold might be slightly better, is also slightly more expensive. You said you looked at c&b sofas. I love west elm, in case you didn't look there. I think they have slightly more style.
When picking a fabric, pick one that holds its shape, in case that is why your chair went saggy.

I have a sofa and loveseat from Lazy Boy. The cushions still look good and it is at least 10 years old, maybe older. Also there is no wear and tear on the upholstery either. But to be completely honest, the cushion I sit my fat ass on for hours with my laptop is looking a little bit like it wishes I'd find another seat.

After our dogs ate/shredded not 1 but 2 sofas, about 18 months ago we bought a sofa from IKEA. I'm amazed at the quality. It still looks brand new - and that's after 2x 50lb dogs have used it everyday and our 2 boys have jumped on it, wrestled on it, done Superman stunts off it.

MyBoysnMe, you made me laugh. My DH is like Sheldon with his "spot" and our sofa shows it!
Paige, thanks for Mitchell Gold review. Our fabric has been excellent on it, and it's survived the kid and his friends. It's just too squishy. Almost like it was a down cushion, but in a sleek style where you wouldn't use down. Does that make sense?
I forgot about West Elm, their "wood" pieces weren't impressive - but that was several years ago. I'll give them another look and Ikea too. I need an excuse to go there.
Keep the suggestions coming please. This should be fun, but instead it stresses me

We have a sectional from Bassett. We originally got down cushions, but they didn't wear well. About 6 years in they looked saggy. I called Bassett and asked if I could purchase replacement foam cushions. They ended up giving us the replacement cushions for free. I'll be shopping with them again when we need a new couch.

I have been very happy with Ethan Allen. I know a lot of people think they're old fashioned, but I have a clean, modern esthetic, and have found what I liked (and has held up well) there. Our last house we had their Arcata sofa. My newer place I have their Bennett track arm sofa and their GORGEOUS Grayson chair in my living room. I also have their Colin chair in my office.

We purchased a sectional from Haverty's last year. It was the only one we could agree on.

We have a Lane. Had we not started letting our dogs on it about 2 years ago it would still look brand new. It's 10 years old.
