I would love to lose 35 pounds but don't feel comfortable trying these drugs. Especially because I have had extreme side effects from bio-identical hormones and very unexpected reactions to OTC meds. Some of the possible effects mentioned here make me really firm in my commitment not to even dabble with this. Thanks to all of you for sharing!
My weight peaked during the pandemic at a crazy 182 pounds.
I weighed 112 at age 22, 99 at age 26 when I became pregnant (just very active with super high metabolism), 117 at age 41. Then I needed anti-depressant meds and my weight just kept going up and up and up. I'm down to 168 and amping up my activity level. I've eaten pretty healthy foods for a long time, but now I'm working on only eating when I'm hungry and having smaller portions. It's going to have to be slow and steady for this gal, but I'm committed to improving my health.
Good luck and congrats to all of you having success with this, and those who might try it. xo

Slow and steady wins the race. I had an entire month (and other long stretches of time) where I didn't lose a pound during the last (almost) year. Just keep going....ala Dori And as you're working on it and thinking it's not going quickly enough, remember to think about how long it too you to put it on, and be kind to yourself!

ETA: I’ve been googling since I posted the above reply, and am having no luck finding info about the injectors/pens being the shortage issue, not the medication itself (compounded meds are a different story, I know). Can you possibly link a girl up? I read it a few different places but it was months ago, so I could be mistaken. I’ll see if I can track something down later tonight when I’m not working.

My doctor would like me to start taking Rybelsus (semaglytide), which is tablet not an injectable. She suggested filling it via a Canadian Pharmacy (Marks Marine…which seems like an odd name). It’s $216 a month for the three months she wants me to start with. I am pre-diabetic and I’m losing weight going low carb/high protein, my glucose levels have not dropped.
I just need to pull the plug and place the order. They did say it would take 4-6 weeks to fulfill the prescription.
Off to read the prior threads linked.

I started with Rybelsus and was on it for about 3 months. The medication needs to be taken first thing in the morning with a small sip of water and then absolutely nothing to drink/eat for 30 minutes. The lack of coffee first thing was not fun for me! In the 3 months I was on it I dealt with constant nausea as well as belching. The positives were that it brought my A1c down and I lost weight. I didn't like the side effects and finally went to Ozempic. Everyone reacts differently, but be aware that those can be side effects. While I did have a bit of nausea with Ozempic at first, that went away pretty quickly. No belching either.

That’s interesting that your side effects were so different between the pill and shot, since they are the same medication. Bodies are weird, man!

I lost 10lbs in 6 weeks and I didn't starve myself. I significantly reduced my added sugar intake and processed foods. When I want something sweet, I grab fruit instead of cookies. But, I said I significantly reduced. So I actually can have a cookie if I want. Just not 10. Those 6 weeks taught me something important. I am a sugar addict and it is the cause of my aches and pains. Once I cut out most of it. I no longer had the fatigue and joint aches.

I've taken Ozempic since the first of January this year. At this time, I've lost 30 pounds, my A1c has gone from 7.8 to 6.4, and my blood pressure is in normal range. I talked to my doctor about bumping up my dosage, as the weight is coming off slowly, but she reminded me that slow is better and she also said insurance companies are not responding well to increasing dosages, claiming high dosages are for weight loss, not diabetes control.
There was a mix up in my refill (doc sent it to the wrong pharmacy. Getting it canceled and resent was a major pain) so I've been four days without a dose. Today, I had the most intense battle with "food chatter" on our way home from a work trip. It was constant and overbearing, even after we stopped for lunch. I ate more than I have in the past several months and did not experience the "stop eating now" sensation I get with Ozempic. I've learned to stop several bites before feeling absolutely sick and miserable and that was missing today.
I was STRICT low carb (like ten or fewer carbs a day) for 9 months. I lost 20 pounds in the first 2 months and then nothing for the remaining 7. I was to the point of having such an unhealthy relationship with food. Ozempic has shown me how a person without metabolism issues feels about and responds to food. All of the "It's calories in and calories out!" and "Just move more!" works for some lucky people, but not for others and no one seems to believe the others.
I intend to take Ozempic for the rest of my life. I knew that was the deal when I signed up. One little maintenance dose, once a week, is a small price to pay for balance, clarity, energy, and good health.

Working in a doctors' surgery, I see first hand how making Semaglutide available for weight-loss has impacted our diabetic patients with availability issues, to the point of increased hospitalisation. As soon as an alternative becomes available, it instantly runs out because everyone gets switched to it, then we're back in the same position again. Whether it's the drug or the method of administration doesn't help. It would have been really helpful for the powers that be to have arranged an increase of stock BEFORE announcing the changes, because it was inevitable that there would be a massive increase in demand. However, that's an aside. freecharlie I agree with this: I'm not versed in weight loss, but it seems like, to me, that loosing 20 pounds in that time frame may put undue pressure on your system after your divorce. You are reinventing yourself. Family photos are a point in time and a great goal to get in shape, but be gentle with yourself. The photos will be great, no matter what your size. You will have a killer smile. A good photographer will capture your dazzling smile and interactions with your family. How do I know this? My sister is a dental assistant and takes family photos on the side and she captures the best photos of the group. Whatever your size, you and your family will be beautiful. I hope you have a fantastic photo shoot whatever you weigh or look like. I hope you can increase your self-esteem, whatever changes you manage to make to your body, because that and your health are far more important.

Have you looked into intermittent fasting? I have done that to jump start my diet and have had good results. The biggest thing it helps me with is being more aware of what I am eating. On fasting days I can only have 500 calories so I am very selective on what I eat because I want to get the most out of the calories. For example, I don't want to have consumed 200 calories before noon because it limits my options for dinner that night. It also helps on non fast days because when I want to eat some chips and l look at the calories I think of how that one bowl of chips would be half my calorie intake on a fast day. Or if I want to stop at Chick-fil-a for chicken strip meal that I would be eating more calories in that one meal than I did during an entire fast day.
