The new home we are buying has the ceilings painted the same color as the walls (deep beige). The trim is white. I'm not sure if the rooms would look bigger or smaller with white ceilings. Thoughts?

Our house has the beige ceilings but we've painted the walls other colors. I think white ceilings would make everything brighter but not necessarily in a good way for us. Our decor is more traditional mixed with "Texas rustic" and I associate those bright whites with more cottage or coastal decor.
(Sorry, that's not exactly what you asked. I don't think white ceilings would necessarily make the room look bigger. Just brighter.)

I've always liked painted ceilings and I think it does make rooms feel larger. Sometimes I will paint a ceiling a slightly darker color in a larger room which I think makes it feel cozier.

That's the way our house is. It was done that way when it was built. I, personally, really like it being all one neutral color. Now, if I were to paint a non-neutral color, it would probably be too dark, so I would leave the ceiling the neutral color. I like it much better that white.

My walls are several shades of pale gray and I wanted no brown at all in any shade in my house so white ceilings seemed like a no brainer for me. My base colors throughout my home are black and white and I've always liked white ceilings anyway.

White ceilings for me as well - but my rooms are quite small.

We are in the process of sprucing up our house to put it on the market. We're painting the walls and the ceilings the same color. I don't remember the name of the color, but it's vanilla looking.
But, since you're planning on living in your new home (I assume for a while), I'd paint the ceilings white, if I were you.

I'm in the beginning process of having a real wood ceiling installed in my small living room. It will be painted white.

"I've always liked painted ceilings and I think it does make rooms feel larger. Sometimes I will paint a ceiling a slightly darker color in a larger room which I think makes it feel cozier." what sheeppea said.
In my home there are only 2 rooms with white ceilings, the guest room which is in a Caribbean Blue...and the laundry room that is in a spring green.
Guess a big influence was the designer Christopher Lowell...and his book 7 Layers of Design.
Most are a form of tan or beige, except the dining...I put pale pink over a taupe...and my scraproom, a pale blue over violet...and the suite is a very pale yellow over blue.
(my painter loved me!!)

All of our ceilings are painted a white tinted lightly to coordinate with the wall color. Blue painted room ceilings have a slight blue tint and brown based rooms have more of an antique tinted ceiling paint. I love that they blend so nicely

Living room & kitchen ceilings will be white (we're painting as we speak) because 1) my color scheme in the kitchen is black, white & gray and 2) my living room is BM Begonia and I don't like the idea of a pink ceiling in my living room. Husband isn't keen on the color as it is. Now way I could make a pink ceiling fly.

We had our house painted last fall and painted the walls a medium gray with with ceilings. I love it!! I was told by my painters another style is to paint the ceiling using the wall color mixed with 50% white.
