I am a music person so when in the car, home or on my devices I typically have music playing. I just downloaded an app and started listening to my very first podcast ever. 😆. Ironically what led me to do it was so that I could listen to a podcast interview with one of my favorite musicians. I have to say I finally feel a bit relevant in today’s digital world. 😉😄
Just curious how many are podcast listeners compared to music listeners.

I tend to go in spurts where I mainly listen to music for a bit, then podcasts. I get bored with just one all of the time.

Around the house, it's music almost all the time. (I'm not a TV person. It's hardly ever on unless my husband is watching.)
In the car - especially for road trips - I love a good podcast series. It makes the time pass so much faster.
I had changed to podcasts back when I was running regularly. On my music playlists, it got to where I knew how far along I was and how much further I had to go. The podcasts kept my interest better and kept me from "marking time" as I ran. Now though, I am walking two big dogs, so I don't listen to anything while we walk. I prefer to be more alert with them and have grown to love the sounds of nature as we walk.

I selected other - audiobooks for me. I've listened to a couple of podcasts if a topic really interests me and they are really well produced, Generally I find people just talking on podcasts annoying, I'd much rather listen to a book.

Pre-pandemic, I did a lot of actual book reading and podcasts (while on work commute on public transit). Now it’s all 80% music, and 20% digital books. I tried audio books but they are always too slow for me.

This exactly. To me, so much of the talking on podcasts is just talk talk talk. lol. It's the same reason I don't like those panels of people who dissect any news development. Although, around the house I probably listen to music more than audiobooks. It depends on what I'm doing. I tend to get distracted with audiobooks and suddenly I'll realize that I have no idea what I've just been listening to. haha

Music used to be my favorite driving company, but I started listening to a few podcasts that I really like (Armchair Expert and Smartless) and now I’m kinda hooked on listening to them instead.

I've tried a couple of podcasts and found them generally annoying as people ramble on. I listen to music in the car. I listen to audiobooks (on at least 1.2x speed) when crafting.

I don’t think I’ve ever tried that. The library system has such a small number of audio books but a ton of digital books. I just know that buying books is not something I want to spend money on (in any format). That also plays a huge factor in my digital reading.

Never music, always audio books. Even before digital audio did not listen to the radio, commercials were annoying. Also find podcasts annoying too.

In the car I listen to music. At home I enjoy silence 99% of the time. I listened to some podcasts but I just lose interest.

Always music. I have never liked being read to and as I am hearing impaired, podcasts and audio books are just gibberish to me. On my music playlists, it got to where I knew how far along I was and how much further I had to go. I put my workout music on random play so it is never the same playlist which means I don't know how far along I am until the workout is over, lol.

I have XM so it's always on at home, in the car, in my classroom. Various channels. One reason I have subscription radio is because I don't want to listen to people talk. So, I'm music 100% of the time. Never podscasts.

Music.
I do not do background noise. I don’t ever have music or the tv or anything just on. It is only on if we are actively and intentionally listening to it. So, mostly music is in the car and in the shower.
I cannot listen to people talk. If I am in the car and someone tries to play talk radio/podcast/whatever, I get violently motion sick. Otherwise, podcasts/audiobooks just give me a headache. I can attend in person lectures. I can watch tv/videos. But a detached voice without a face/visual is not something I can do.

I love podcasts. I have a wide variety of interests and feel I can jump between them with podcasts. One day I’m learning about finances, then “helping” solve a true crime, then listening to a rewatch of one of my favorite shows (currently Psych). Sometimes it’s a political show and sometimes an Oprah interview. And they’re usually just long enough for my commute.

I tried podcasts, various people/subjects etc but just didn’t get into listening to them. I have the radio on in the car but not generally at home. I like silence or sometimes the tv is on depending on what I’m doing. I also tried audiobooks but found that I missed bits when I was concentrating on whatever I was doing around the house or I stopped mid chore to listen to the book and wasn’t getting stuff done.
🤷🏻♀️

I don't like podcasts when they are just people speculating on things. I don't want to hear your take on a crime, I want the facts.
It's music in the car or while walking, and crime shows when I'm working on things, but in general it's more just the actual episodes of Dateline or Forensic Files or whatever and not a podcast.

It's hard for me to concentrate fully on the book so I miss stuff. Plus sometimes I don't like the actor voices, so I don't bother with audiobooks anymore. I like to stick with shows that have good narrators that I don't have to give 100% of my attention to (crime shows generally don't need to be seen and they'll usually go over the important stuff again). The bad part about this is I associate all my art with murders 🤣🤣

I was a 'Music Mostly' person, but now I listen almost exclusively to podcasts. Even in the car I mainly listen to talkback radio.
DSO has never listened to a podcast in his life, so at least I still get my music fix when we are sitting outside, on on the weekend mornings.

Don't listen to podcasts unless I really, really like the podcaster. I would much rather listen to a comedy station or an audio book.

For me, it’s mostly neither but I do listen to music on car trips occasionally, often not when DH is in the car because we just don’t shut up. Mostly though, save for my baseball games, I like quiet these days. And I have this weird aversion to videos of people speaking (like news shows and honestly most TV) so podcasts are definitely out for me, as are audio books. I also don’t like people reading things to me from the paper or online, even DH.

I tend to get distracted with audiobooks and suddenly I'll realize that I have no idea what I've just been listening to. haha Speed them up! I listen to most books on 1.75 or even 2.0 speed, I think you found the answer to your problem. I don't think brains can take in information that fast, especially if you are doing other things. I never speed up books, but I will sometimes slow them down by 5%.

I'm not sure I can bear to listen at regular speed, but maybe I should try slowing down to 1.5. I'll give that a try.

I listen to more Audiobooks now. I still like Podcasts and just started Dear Alana. But the books have me hooked! I do a lot through my local library (FREE!) and I have an Audible account. I buy some and I also check out the ones that are free on Audible.
I do like Music sometimes when I am in the mood for it.
