Hi everyone! Not much going on around here today! It's a good thing because I am in a real funk ... I think the stress of my job and finding my mum a place to live (I'm pretty much doing all the work) is really affecting me ... So many things are up in the air ... sigh! This is what I posted on Facebook today ... I have the WORST memory! I can't even really blame it on getting older because it has never been good! Dinner is TBD ... if I cook it will be something from Hello Fresh, or I have rechauffee or I could order takeout ... I'll decide later! How is everyone feeling today? What are your plans today? What is on your menu? I hope you have a wonderful Saturday everybody!

Hi leannec! Sorry you are in a funk. You have a lot going on. Take it easy. I can so relate to your meme. I flew home from my parents last night. It was a long week. Glad to be home. I really need to go into the office but I havenโt brought myself to do it. I might just stay home and relax today then go in tomorrow. I found some pork chops so thatโs whatโs for dinner.

Hi everyone! It's been a weird week here. I managed to sell a few of the toys my dh had collected over the years - sold a golf cart, seadoo, 2 atvs, a small generator, and a few small odds and ends. Thought I had sold the truck and 5th wheel but they backed out the next morning. Then another person said they were coming but backed out because they couldn't get financing. Now DS's fiancรฉ's parents are interested in coming to look at it tomorrow but I'm a little hesitant about that. I'll sell it to them if they want it, but honestly I'd prefer to sell it to strangers. If anything goes wrong with it I will feel awful! But they know it's being sold As Is so hopefully there won't be any issues. Then I took my car in for service on Thursday. It's a 2011 Ford Escape that I love and was hoping to nurse through another year or so. It's the best car I've ever driven in the snow. The garage we take it to is a friend of DH's so I trust him thoroughly and there was a few things I wanted him to fix. He called me in the morning to tell me that he will do the small repair on the ignition switch (because we already had the part), but that it is not worth putting more money into it because the frame is basically rusting out, and there is something wrong with the drive shaft, and he recommended I go car shopping. So not what I had planned to do right now!!! But coincidentally, earlier in the week my DD had been talking to her friend, who happens to work a local Ford dealership, and she said she can get us a friends and family discount. So I'm going to be visiting her next week. Still not an expense I had wanted at this time though. Also on Thursday, DD's boyfriend - who is here from Ireland - had to be taken to the emergency room. He had been feeling off all week and it was getting worse. Turns out that his appendix is inflamed. But of course he has no health insurance here! It's not so bad that it needs to be removed yet, but they are keeping an eye on it. They kept him overnight to do testing. And he's on antibiotics. He's supposed to be flying home on Tuesday so hopefully he feels well enough to be able to do that, and then he can get it removed in Ireland. I feel so bad for him, but he is feeling somewhat better now. We also have concerns that he might have celiac disease so I think he should go for more testing on that when he's home. And while they were at the hospital all night I got my first taste of what my life is going to be like after they have moved to Vancouver next year and I'm living alone. It was definitely a hard night all around. It's starting to sink in that he's really gone and not coming back. And it makes me so sad. The whole week was not all bad though, just a few rough moments. I've been keeping busy working on cleaning out the house - you have no idea how much stuff DH managed to acquire over the years! I've had 2 large garbage runs and 2 runs to goodwill so far, with more needed. And I did get to go out golfing twice so not all work. Hope everyone is doing well! leannec I'm sorry you're in a funk. And scrapmaven I'm so glad your medical trip was helpful to you!

Good afternoon leannec I think my mind is like a steel trap. I can remember the most random things. The problem for me is that there's so much floating around in there that I have trouble retrieving the information I stored sometimes. ๐ stormsts good to have you back. Hopefully the moms are doing better. KelleeM yay for going home! There's no place like home. We are having that take n bake pizza tonight before we head to Grand Rapids for a Bob Dylan concert tonight. I can't wait!

Hi I was up really early. I am thinking about going back to the home health drugstore and buying little toe and heel silicone protectors. They arenโt cheap but I just got a new pair of heels and pumps and want to wear them with bare feet. There is a woman (named Henny) at home health and she knows everything about everything and can tell me if they will work or not. I am hopeful!
I am taking Dadโs friend to see him today and we will see how that goes. I will get some pastries for us to eat there.
Dinner tonight is a mystery. After last nightโs beef stroganoff everything else seems pedestrian. Maybe we could do something fancy and Japanese. I could do sukiyaki as we havenโt had that in months.

tanya2 what a week for you. I had a 2004 Escape way back when and I agree they handle amazing in the snow. I'm sorry about your DDs boyfriend. Gah that's got to be terrible. Hopefully they can get home and get him treatment. And yes, alone. I know it is absolutely not the same losing a child and losing a spouse. The spouse is your every day companion and honestly I can't imagine at all how lonely I'd be without Jeremy. I'm just sending you a big hug. โค๏ธ

We woke up this morning to a total change of weather, overcast and cold and strong winds. It hasnโt let up all day and about 2 hours ago the rain started. Ugh! I shouldnโt complain - we have had the most amazing summer and early fall, so it had to end sometime. We are going out for dinner tonight. Monday is DHโs birthday, but he is flying to South America tomorrow morning for two weeks, so tonight it is. We are going to an Asian fusion restaurant nearby. Weโve been once before and it was so good.

tanya2 thinking of you. What a week. So far today has been lounging around home, and a run to the grocery store. Not sure what dinner is, but I have several choices now. Maybe some sloppy joes, simple, and Iโve had a craving. But it could be anything at this point. Today I need to clean, laundry, and maybe decorate the front porch for fall finally. I grabbed some pumpkins after groceries. I also need to start prepping for the retreat coming up Thursday. I also need to work out. I slacked off this week because of my ear, and I need to get some exercise. Itโs not raining anymore, so maybe a walk later when itโs a little warmer.

Itโs a rainy, blustery, cold, dull and dreary day here. DH is taking a nap and Walker is curled up on a deck chair enjoying the cool weather. I just finished the book I was reading and ready to start a new one. So obviously not much going in here today.
DH and I went out for supper last night with friends who treated us. So nice to have a nice meal and a drink without having to pay the bill!
Supper will be Shake and Bake chicken, Caesar salad, roasted potatoes and a veggie of some sort.

Good Morning. leannec, everything will work out for you, but the unknown really sucks. Try and be gentle w/yourself and find distractions that make you smile. tanya2, right now things must be very surreal for you. It's a very good thing that you're golfing. That's important for your self-care. This is truly a one day at a time scenario and the most important thing is to keep nurturing yourself and let your loved ones support. So, I contacted a car dealership via online chat just to see if they had the car that I want on the lot, since new inventory is hard to find due to the chip shortage. I'm shocked that I didn't receive an instant email. Remember, my super power is buying a car w/in minutes at the very best price. So, I found what I want and now it's their sale to lose. GAME ON! Meanwhile, I will be sitting at my puzzle and doing some laundry. Dinner is tacos. Easy Peasy. We're gonna watch the last episodes of Only Murders in the Building. It'll be a nice day w/dh and the kitty cats. Enjoy your today, my tribe.

Someone mentioned stuffed chicken breasts on here this week. It made me crave them. So weโre having that with mashed potatoes and gravy and veggies. DD2 is coming over. Her fiancรฉe is in Canada at his bachelor party. Tomorrow is her birthday so she and I and dd1 are going to a seafood restaurant. Canโt wait. Picked up a birthday cake from the baker that I was getting a 2 tiered cake for her to cut at the wedding. I ordered full sheets from another baker. They said their icing is too soft and not to stack them. I was just having it plain white and the florist is making a white flower arrangement. I spent $750 on dd1โs wedding cake and barely anyone ate any. We threw so much out I was trying to lessen that cost. Big hugs for you tanya2. Is there any way you can also go to Vancouver? leannec I hope your district gets it together for you soon. So much limbo for you. Yay to going home KelleeM

I made chocolate chip banana bread this morning, using a recipe I have used multiple times and it...failed. ๐๐๐ We are eating the remains, but I have to figure out what went wrong. I have a couple ideas- one being that the recipe called for 3 bananas. I googled after the fact and that should have been 1-1/2 cups. I know there was only about a cup of banana. I also recently switched from Pam to an avocado oil spray- that did not work well, so next time, I'll either use more or use butter. Finally, the recipe said to bake for 70 minutes. After 60 minutes, it was browned and toothpicks came out clean, so I pulled it. When I went to tip it out of the pan after waiting for 10 minutes, the bread stuck to the pan, but the undercooked center plopped right out. ๐๐๐๐
Anyway, dinner is leftover Chinese from last night. And maybe some alcohol- I finally convinced my mom that she needed a Smart TV and we went to set it up and show her how it works. Yeah, definitely some alcohol.

tanya2 , you'd be so embarrassed by the time you left the dealership. On the other hand, you'd get the best deal ever. The Scrapmaven that you see here is the real deal. I'm a calm, happy person. However, when I go a car dealership I turn into the most aggressive, impatient, controlling person you could ever meet. After 15 minutes-the most time I'll spend at a sales person's desk I turn back into a human. LOL.
littlemama, it also helps if you line the pan. It sounds so yummy.
karenlou, you're such a good sister. KelleeM, I hope that you're resting comfortably and being pampered as you deserve to be treated like a queen.

Hi friends!
We went to look at another lot today, followed by a meh trip to a thrift store, Costco (who FINALLY had cat litter in stock, so we got 2 packages; DH was less than enthused by the woman in front of us in line...she abandoned her cart to chase after an employee...line moved up...we moved around her cart [she literally had 1 other item in it and we figured she wasn't returning]...she comes back, cuts us in line where she had been, and then the line next to us opened...so she had to be first in line in front of others who were obviously waiting...and left her cart in front of us...), lunch at Potbelly, and then a quick trip to the casino (DH has been putting a little money down on some football games).
We're having homemade butternut squash soup and bread for dinner. I suggested we go to our favorite Italian place for dinner for our anniversary tomorrow, but I'm not sure if that'll happen.

leannec, everything will work out for you, but the unknown really sucks. Try and be gentle w/yourself and find distractions that make you smile. You are right about that! At the moment, my anxiety and depression are kicking my butt! I went out with my girlfriend last night and so I am doing things to keep myself distracted! GAME ON! I feel like a mini- scrapmaven because I walked into that Jeep dealership knowing exactly what I wanted and exactly how much I wanted for my BMW trade in and how much I could reasonably pay ... they did an excellent job ... I didn't wait around and my sales guy was not trying to just make a bigger commission ... there is a chance that ex could have saved me a bit but not much so I am a happy camper! I'm proud of doing it on my own! Honda CR-V. I love mine, but the trade-in value is great right now. So, it makes sense to trade it in now. You need a cool Jeep Wrangler ... in black !

KelleeM glad to hear you are back home. leannec love the meme. I hope things get resolved soon for you and your mom. tanya2 encourage them to have the truck looked at before buying if you feel uncomfortable selling as is. The poor boyfriend. It's awful to be overseas when medical happens. Next time he visits encourage him to get travel insurance. Give yourself a lot of grace right now as your feelings will be a roller coaster as you adjust to the new normal which feels like anything but normal. Hugs to you. So sorry about the car. scrapmaven I want to hear your car shopping tips. I didn't realize the chip shortage was still ongoing. I bought our CRV when it first started. I feel like they don't bargain any more especially Honda. Enjoy OMINB. Today doing lots of laundry and trying to catch up on some things. Slept in this morning. Yesterday i napped twice, a new record! So far no napping today, though the yawning has started. LOL. Tonight is rechauffe.

We were going to have our travel buddies over to watch our Thailand travel video, but at the last minute one of the couple got free tickets to a show. The other couple came over anyway, just for dinner (no video until we're all together). They brought over some marinated pork fillets wrapped in bacon, and I made crispy parmesan roast potatoes, and chargrilled broccolini, Dutch carrots, and beetroot, with a creamy paprika sauce. I was trying to replicate a dish I had at a restaurant last week. It wasn't as good of course, but it was still nice. I also made some more lemon meringue pies, but this time I cheated and used pre-made pastry tart bases.

My tips require being very assertive and more aggressive than the car sales people. I think I've mentioned this before, but I've been offered sales jobs when buying a car. I mean it when I tell you that my way to purchase a car will make female wrestlers look like the Flying Nun. Never discuss your trade-in or financing/paying cash/leasing until you get the final price of the vehicle you're buying. You don't want them pretending to give you a great deal when they're playing w/your trade-in price to compensate or selling you a car payment that actually works out to a higher price on the car. I give them 15 mins total after test driving. I let them know that they're on the clock. If they leave to go to the sales manager I go w/them. If they don't meet my price the first time I have nothing more to say. Buh-bye. (I always have a well researched price and know what I'm doing.) If you really want to avoid all of this go thru the Costco auto program. Dealers will tell you that they're part of the program when they really aren't go directly through Costco. It might be harder to find dealers that work w/Costco, due to the shortage of new cars. Likewise, you will probably get a better deal on your used car, because dealerships need something to sell and used cars are their only option. Instead of trading your car in, Carvana gives excellent prices for your car, especially nowadays. It takes less than 2 minutes online and what they quote is what they pay. It takes less than 5 minutes to do the entire thing. They send a truck w/a tow bed. The driver hands you a check and tows your car away. You can get the Carvana price and then after you've negotiated your price for the new car let them assess your car and if they match Carvana's price just trade it in. I can't say enough that if you spend hours buying a car it's because you didn't set the rules at the beginning. Set those rules and save yourself time and a big headache. It's your money, so you are in control and it's all up to you. Marina, you're right that some dealers don't haggle, but others do. Nowadays you can do all of your homework online and many dealerships have their price online. However, that doesn't mean it's the lowest price. So, always do your price research.
