I grew up with the traditional green bean casserole served at every family holiday meal. It's one of my family's favorites! I've changed the recipe a little bit. I add sliced water chestnuts and fresh minced onion and shredded cheddar cheese. The fried onions on top must be Durkees/French's - store brands or other brands aren't the same!

I am not anti cream soups... i use them in other recipes... but for the green bean casserole... i dont...
I make it just green beans bacon and the fried onions.... its basically just green beans with fried stuff.... lol so not really a casserole...
I also add bacon to the corn casserole thing with the jiffy n cream corn....
Everything is better with bacon

"Washington got sugar cookies, who eats sugar cookies for Thanksgiving?" I'm sitting here right now eating some Snickerdoodles that I just made!

Dh likes it, so I make it for him. Canned French-cut green beans, cream of mushroom, milk, pepper, french fried onions.

Not a fan. It is not included when we have extended family gatherings, so apparently my siblings don't want it either.

We have it every year. I'm not a big fan but people in my family love it. Mostly the men. I never make it. I usually assign it to the person who is the worst cook because it's a pretty simple recipe. My sister did take it over eventually and made it from scratch. No canned soups. It was amazing. But now that she's gone, we are back to the simple recipe on the can. I take a small spoonful to be polite. There's too many other things I would rather be eating than green bean casserole. I don't remember it ever having soy sauce in it.

Enough of the people at one family gathering like/love it enough that I bring it to every family gathering. I rarely eat it, only taking some if there's not much else to eat. I love taking it and making it because it's all cans except for some milk. I don't have to worry about dragging around food that needs to be refrigerated or frozen to 3 different places over 3 different days. I make sure I have a small bottle of milk for Christmas Day gatherings otherwise I hope that my stepmom has some in the fridge (and if not I can run to the store to get some).

I love it but we don't have it every year, sometimes we sub in other sides to change things around a bit. When I'm the one making it, I usually use the traditional (easy) recipe (no soy sauce) and so do other family members when they make it. However, one year I made it all from scratch (even the fried onion topping) and wow it was amazing!

I’ve never made it or eaten it.

We eat creamed spinach with mushrooms and cheese instead. I’ve had the green bean casserole a few times and it was fine, but no one in my family would be excited about it.
I don’t even really want the creamed spinach on Thanksgiving, even though I love it. There’s too much rich food and creamy textures already. But my extended family would stage a revolt, so I keep making it. I’d rather have steamed or sautéed Brussels sprouts, or maybe broccoli. But I’m not making another veggie dish. Maybe my brother will make Brussels sprouts. A girl can hope.

I never had it growing up and I don’t think DH did either. For some reason we made it one year and DD just LOVED it. So now I make it every year primarily for her. DH and I don’t mind it either so the leftovers get eaten. Many years if we have other people for Thanksgiving that dish is empty.
The recipe I have calls for Worcestershire sauce. I don’t think I’ve ever made it with soy sauce although I’m sure it tastes pretty similar.

It's not my favorite but if I am at Thanksgiving meals where it's a dish I'll eat some to be polite.

I was born & raised in the southeast (NC), where casseroles, including green bean, were popular at extended family gatherings (e.g. holidays, reunions) during my childhood. Personally, I detest casseroles, canned soups, salty foods, onions, etc. so they've never been part of my immediate family (i.e. parents, husband/son) traditions.

I can't believe how many people don't like it. I love it and everyone in my family loves it. I do use soy sauce when I make it, just like my mom did.
I haven't made it in years, though. There are only 3 of us on actual Thanksgiving day so there ends up being a lot of food- we don't need many sides.

Anything that uses cream of….whatever soup is very unappealing to me. I abhor the smell of those soups. I had it once and never will again. I very much prefer steaming green beans and then sautéing with some garlic and olive oil.

I don't remember a time when we didn't eat it. It seems like it's been a side dish in rotation for my whole life. I still make it a few times a year actually - not just for the holiday. My husband and I both like it a lot.

My DH's family makes it, but since I can't have lactose, I can't eat it. (Cream soup.) This year its just DH and i. I am making a easy green bean side from one of our favourite supper clubs. cheesecurdinparadise.com/van-ables-green-beans/I am making a pumpkin pie, recipe from taste of home, that uses almond milk egg nog as the milk replacement. So yummy!
