Hi everyone! I have no real plans so far today ... pan fried some fish for a friend last night and I need to wipe down the stove because there are splatters ... didn't have the energy yesterday. I posted this on Facebook today ... I love toast! With jam usually but I also love it with Cheez Whiz ... gross I know! Dinner is up in the air ... I'll decide a bit later! How is everyone feeling today? What are your plans today? What is on your menu tonight? Have a great Saturday everybody!

Good Morning! It's 11:30 and I started and finished taking down my Christmas decorations! I find it much more fun to put them up than take them down.
We are going to take it easy and watch football this afternoon. My parents have left to go visit some people this morning. I am enjoying the peace and quiet. I'm not sure what is for dinner. It depends if my parents will be here or not. My mother has told me repeatedly they are going to some friends on New Years Day. Last night she told me it is tonight. I guess when they get back I will find out. It breaks my heart to see how down hill my mom has gotten both physically and mentally. She is not that old in my eyes. My parents are 79.
I hope everyone has a peaceful day!

I love toast too!
Dinner is going to be chicken noodle soup. I have two cooked, bone in breasts to use up and ds actually likes soup and considers it a meal, unlike dd and dgd. Meals are going to be so much easier around here! We may have a salad as well since we have all of the ingredients on hand.
My house is insanely quiet. I’m not complaining at all!!

The last days of this year are not going as we hoped. Before my stepmum went into surgery this morning, the doctor told my dad that their tests showed she had a minor heart attack in the past week, probably triggered by the gall bladder inflammation. The surgery itself went well - they were able to do it all via keyhole - but then there were problems bringing her out from the anaesthetic and she was having breathing issues. They decided to keep her sedated and with a breathing tube overnight, so we are still waiting to see how things go.
Apart from that - DH and I went into the city to the Viktualienmarkt for our NYE feast ingredients. DH usually does a multi course tasting menu - this year our theme is Mexican. We also had a stop by our regular supermarket for less exotic ingredients.
Dinner tonight is burgers. We buy frozen ready made ones that are really good and our supermarket has a range of interesting burger buns. Tonight’s are malt sourdough.

I love the meme leannec! I, too, enjoy toast. I prefer butter though. stormsts I keep thinking I ought to take my tree down. But I enjoy the lights. So just a few more days. I'm having rechauffe for dinner. I'm just going to roast another squash so it's fresh. But the stuffing I put in the fridge to reheat. I'm trying to figure out what to do with myself. I finished my scrapbook this morning. I'm washing the sheets. But I might make a hat. I got a new winter coat for Christmas. I really want to make a quilt. Haha...I don't know why I keep telling myself it's ridiculous to start a new project when I have so many needing to be finished.

sueg - prayers for your stepmum I like toast as well but almost never eat it Dinner tonight is bacon ranch chicken and rice. DH loves chicken and rice...I do NOT so I had never made it. A couple of years ago I told him I would make it for him if he found me a recipe. He came home with this one and surprise - even I liked it as did my two girls with food aversions.

I like toast- with butter and cinnamon-sugar, with peanut butter and cinnamon-sugar, with pb&j, or with an over medium or poached egg on top. I also like sandwiches on toast, partucularly "salad" sandwiches- tuna salad, chicken salad, egg salad.
But, the true genius is the person who tasted bread and said "put butter on it and slap it in a pan. Oh! And add cheese!"
Ope, got so excited by toast, I forgot this was the dinner thread! We have leftovers from Maggiano's!

Good morning everyone. sueg , my prayers are w/your stepmom that she recovers well. I'm sorry that you have this worry on your plate. ((((HUGS)))). Tacos sound so good. I do miss them. I like toast, but I have to eat boring white bread and similar carbs for the calories and it gets boring. Though eating it w/Nutella would be fine. jeremysgirl , if you want to make a quilt then I say do it. The only one counting your unfinished projects is you. If it's going to be fun and enjoyable then do it. leannec , I hope that you can enjoy a nice day at home. KelleeM , it's happy dance time. Enjoy your nice, quiet house. Weeeee.
karenlou , have a relaxing day and get plenty of rest for your shift tonight. Everyone is home today. Last night yds made Japanese curry and cleaned up and everything. Woohoo. Tonight, dh is going to make a Chasu Don, a pork rice bowl. Have a fun, relaxing day, tribe.

I'm on day two of deep cleaning. Yesterday was the kitchen, living room and dining room. Today was the bathrooms and tomorrow will be the bedrooms. I'm not going to take down Christmas until next weekend but I wanted to start the year fresh with a clean house! I tell myself that if I just keep it up, it would look nice all the time. I live alone so there's really no excuse. I think this will be one of my priorities going into the new year.
I'm going over to my sister's to watch the Cowboys game tonight so dinner will probably be over there.
Have a good weekend everyone!

DS just drove away to go home. It is rainy and foggy so I'll be happy when he texts that he is home. I just noticed Safeway has Dungeness crabs for $4.97 a lb. So that's what we'll have for dinner. Yum! I'll start taking Christmas down this weekend but will save the tree for last. The rest will take me several days and I'm going to go through all my boxes and set aside those things that no longer bring me joy and donate them. I already gave away a box full the week before Christmas. It went to a young girl who just got her first apartment and had no decorations. Compliments of jeremysgirl :

Today I had nothing to do but it seems like I’ve been very busy. I’ve done two loads of laundry, vacuumed, mopped the floors, organized the coat/shoe closet, vacuumed all the blinds, and emptied the dishwasher. Now it’s time to chill while DH has his nap.
It was a late night for me last night since I was babysitting the grandboys. I got home just after midnight and found both DH and Walker waiting up for me. I thought I might sleep in this morning but nope!
Supper will be grilled steak, fried potatoes and salad.

Absolutely no clue what dinner will be. Currently putting away Christmas decorations and watching the Peach Bowl. DH has gone to a yoga class and later meeting a friend of his for a late lunch. I need to make an HEB run after the game to pick up a couple of prescriptions and grab a few groceries. Not looking forward to that chaos!

sueg can we switch husbands? I read your post out loud to Jeremy and was like, where's my multi-course Mexican tasting menu? He was like if you want Famous Taco, I'm willing to go get it! 😂🤣😂🤣 It is funny. DH was brought up by a mum whose cooking was at best basic fare - plain and filling and mostly overcooked. Once he started working, he started eating out more and had a boss who was a foodie before that term was popular who taught him a lot about food and wine. Add in travelling all over the world and he became very interested in different cuisines and flavours. He also had a couple of periods in his life where he lived alone and had to cook for himself, so he became quite a decent cook. He now cooks for us on weekends and when he’s on vacation. As for our Mexican feast - not a taco in sight! We will have ceviche and avocado salad and a couple of varieties of tostadas, and flan for dessert.

sueg saying prayers for your stepmom. Went to IHOP for breakfast with my mom and then took her grocery shopping at HEB. I went ahead and picked up some things for myself since I was dealing with the chaos already. I'm waiting on a new planner to arrive and see how I like it. I usually just buy refills for the one I have but decided to try something different for next year. For dinner we are having rotisserie chicken with a baked potato and some kind of vegetable.

Not sure what dinner will be - maybe spaghetti with meat sauce. Or possibly rechauffe. cadoodlebug , we had Dungeness crabs for dinner at DD2's house on Christmas eve & they were festive and delicious! Enjoy! I'm doing boring house chores - cleaning, de-cluttering, laundry, etc. I finished all my unpacking from the trip though - a lot of times I let that drag on too long, so yay me. I had bought myself a new set of luggage just before the trip so I needed to rearrange luggage storage to find space for another set in our already crowded/cluttered basement. (DH & I will never again purchase a house without a garage - grrrr!!!) Would like to get some baking done for NYE - just something festive, not sure what that will be yet. It'll just be DH and I (I think - not sure if DS has plans with friends for NYE yet). We don't currently have plans for anything tomorrow, so I might just make us a special dinner. I want to see The Boys in the Boat movie - I loooooved the book - maybe we can fit that in sometime over the 3-day weekend.

I can't believe that it's already the last day of 2023! (Well, here anyway.) Where has this year gone? Because we're going out for an expensive dinner for NYE, I said we need to have something simple that uses what we already have in the pantry and/or garden. DSO wanted pasta, but I didn't have any pasta sauce. So he suggested sage (from the garden) and burnt butter sauce with walnuts, but I didn't have any filled pasta. Then I remembered a jar of roasted red pepper and eggplant paprika relish I bought just before Christmas. I stirred some cream and spring onions (and goat cheese for my portion) through it. For something so simple, it was freakin delicious!

I did get a couple of walks in today and I think we could go out again.

Well.. radio silence from. here is over!! we are back from our cruise, but I got covid at the end, (almost over it now) and now dh is suffering with it. we had a 13 hr flight this morning .. delayed due to thunder and lightning in brisbane. the suitcases are still in the hallway. we are having thai takeout for dinner. and I made one grocery store run so far.
we had a wonderful time esp snorkeling in papua new guinea. we saw a lot of cultural dances. they canceled ports, and added an extra day at one place cause we had to stay an extra day at one port--cause it had an airport for a medical evac. and the other ports did not have airports. it was very isolated. we also enjoyed a few days hanging out in downtown Brisbane.. it is a very vibrant city and very diverse.
I missed some of my usual foods. but all was good. I really missed my american coffee.
