I’m a Texas Panhandle Pea and we are expecting actual temperature lows of 5 and 1 Sunday and Monday (with highs of 15). It’s going to be cold here this weekend. DFW and North Texas Peas better get ready! While it’s an inconvenience for my area, the sleet and ice will be a major headache for y’all. Make sure you are prepared! Dallas is projected to get some snow on Monday and I'm not happy about it because it's a holiday at work and I want to do something fun! I just hope the grid holds out. Down near SA we already got messages about the expected strain on the grid from ERCOT. Charged our Jackery for our CPAPs, made sure our lantern lights are going strong, and are being especially sure to stay on top of laundry, car gassed, etc. We’re fortunate that we’ll still be able to cook on our gas stove, and our water heater is also gas. AFAIK we’re not expecting snow/ice so I was thinking that groceries won’t be an issue. But when have people ever been logical? Probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to ice up our yeti and put things we’ll need for a couple of days in there so we don’t have to keep opening the fridge. And eat down our fresh food from the fridge. Oh, and since the freezer isn’t as full as usual go ahead and freeze some gallons of water in there to help maintain the temperature. I’m trying to remember what else we learned from a few years ago. Batteries for our CPAPS were what affected us the most. What are y’all doing to help avoid the issues you had last time?

Now the cold is coming in with a vengeance, -46C is the overnight low on Friday, -50.8F, with a high of -40 for Saturday. it is -29 degrees Celsius in Calgary Are these actual temps! Or are they windchill temps? This is normal. We always get cold snaps. Sadly, straight up temperatures, they do not reflect wind chill. Windchill numbers will be EEEK. What is really scary is that these temperatures beat the record lows for Friday and Saturday by several degress C.

It's supposed to be close to 70 in Dallas today but a low of 7 on Monday. My plants aren't going to know what to do! Plants, not to mention the people! I just have fingers crossed that the power doesn't go off. We don't need that Hell again.

Our weather has been all over the place so far this year, some cold days, some crazy warm days, a little snow. Now the cold is coming in with a vengeance, -46C is the overnight low on Friday, -50.8F, with a high of -40 for Saturday. An average year is -7.6C for a high, 18F, -19C for a low, -3F. How crazy is your weather? How does anything work when it's that cold. I can't imagine my car, furnace or anything else making it through that!

I agree I don’t think I’ve ever been in temps that cold. Upstate NY in the winter I think only got into low teens. Even when I was up in the arctic it hovered in the 30s lol.

All I can say about the weather here in Houston is watch Texans go crazy in the next 4-5 days as y’all know we can’t handle super freezing cold weather, ice and maybe even snow. And projected temperatures as low as 6-7 degrees. Well, since summer is hot as Hell, then Hell is gonna freeze over, folks! Just hoping ERCOT has their shit together this time and we don’t lose power to their stupidity! Last time we had a number of deaths because they had rolling blackouts and then decided to not turn it back on! People succumbed to the extreme cold, carbon monoxide from trying to warm up using gas grills or sleeping in cars. I really hope it isn’t that bad! Pray for Texans that we don’t lose our minds!

We moved to Northern Minnesota last summer. Enjoyed a wonderful summer, and very typical fall. Then . . . . waited . . . . for winter to show up! Super mild up until this week! Man made snow for the small ski hill and the HS Nordic team drove over to train.
Forecast for the next week: highs range between -3 and 13. lows range between -10 and zero. Snow and clear skis both. Today it was 6F and sunny! So nice! Better than the pouring buckets of rain Christmas we had! Lake is finally frozen and we are watching to see when the ice fishing and snow machines start playing on the ice.

My son was supposed to fly through Chicago this weekend - yeah no - I've already switched his flights as no need to be in the middle of that mess! Stay warm!!

It's COLD! I don't work Fridays, so I'm not leaving the house for the next 3 days.

Are these actual temps! Or are they windchill temps? They are actual temps ... take away another 10 degrees with the windchill.

I am in So Cal and we are not cold compared to other places but I am freezing. It's been in the low 40s at night and low 60s during the day. We usually don't turn the heater on much but it's been running non stop for a week.
Next week we are supposed to be in the 70s all week and I can't wait. I usually open all my windows and doors every day, winter and summer. This last week my house has been closed up and I hate it.

If it starts you pretty much good to go. They say there are more breakdowns in the heat. And you might have to put some air in your tires, it often goes down in the real cold. The furnace runs non-stop, when it hits -40 (actual temp or windchill temp). -30C/-22F isn't bad if there is no wind, the blue skies and sunshine make you feel good. I drove an hour to the city today and the highway and city traffic was as busy as usual. People working outside, oilfield workers, cattle farmers etc. It will be warm by Monday -7C/1F, so a short cold snap.

At least three communities have water main breaks today in the bitter cold. They bring a water trailer on your street to get water from until they get around to fixing the break.

Welp, it's snowing here in Seattle. Hopefully it won't stick, but my adult kid has a bunch of friends over and I am wondering if they'll end up stuck here .

I would be buying everyone some winter boots. 😆😆😁😉 Look, lady, the only way to ensure that it doesn't know is to buy my kids snow boots that they'll outgrow by next year . I mean, I should get them for my husband, but that man refuses to wear anything other than leather loafers and Allbirds, no matter the weather, so he's a lost cause.

We had no water once for a week in the bitter cold. We've had no water many many times. If you have notice or sometimes they turn it on for an hour then you can fill the tub to flush the toilet, fill some pots for cooking and washing it'snot as bad as no power. They never bring water in for us. When we had the long outage the town 10 mins from us opened the arena so you could use the showers, fill some jugs of water.
