I think you did the right thing. Open fires in residential areas on a windy day are a recipe for disaster.

We had a neighbor that would always burn shit in his backyard. We are a no burn area all the time and he would burn plastic! I could smell the burning plastic smell. He was a nice guy but was a hoarder. Thankfully his kids intervened and cleaned out his house and put him in a home. He has since passed away but it is much nicer not having that toxic smell outside.

I’m not a “call the police instead of talking” person but the thing is that smoke goes everywhere, fire is dangerous, and I think he knows he’s not supposed to burn stuff and that he is affecting his neighbors and doing it anyway, so this is a call-in situation. Hope this was a wake-up call for him.
