I have a friend that loves make up! Her birthday is coming up and I would love to get her a yearly subscription to on of the make up clubs. I have heard of BirchBox and Ipsy. Between those or any others that are great which would would you recommend. Thank you!

In my experience, Birchbox is mainly samples, but high-end brands. Ipsy has a lot of full-size products, but some are drug store labels. When an Ipsy box is good, it's way better than Birchbox, but not every month is good.

Our belovd Beth had Ipsy so I went with that for my 17 yo DD's Christmas present. If you try to enroll now, you may be on a waiting list. I was (signed up about a month ago). However, I emailed them asking how long I would be on the list and they immediately took me off. Not sure if that will still be the case this close to Christmas though.

Ipsy also doesn't have a formal gift subscription option.

Ipsy does have a wait list but that is the one I would suggest. Great little make up bags and a great way to try stuff that does not come as a foil (one time use) sample but enough to really try and see if you like it. I also do boxycharm for $21 a month (I like some stuff) but for ipsy's $10 I would vote for ipsy

When an Ipsy box is good, it's way better than Birchbox, but not every month is good. Totally agree with this. The upside of Ipsy vs high-end boxes is that you can find products you love at a price point you can live with. I've discovered many items through Ipsy that I love, can find at local stores and they don't break the bank. L

I heard there wasn't a waitlist for Ipsy right now, but even if there is, share on social media to get off it, and then just go delete the posts if you don't want them on your wall.

Thank you for the input! I greatly appreciate it. Her bday is early Feb so I will try the route of no waiting list or not having one if you share in on social media. Thank you!!!! This friend loves make up, freebies and make up bags so it will be the perfect gift for her to receive all year long. She also has 2 teenage daughters she could share something if it isn't her cup of tea. Thanks so much!

I didn't like Ipsy so I switched to Allure's Sample Society.

I have come to the conclusion that Ipsy is not a good fit for *me*. I have received black, grey and black/gold nail polish. False eyelashes -twice. Orange lipstick -twice. At least a dozen eye shadow / Mascara / brow products even though my profile indicates no eye products. I'm going to cancel.
I mostly have been happy with Birch Box. My favorite is Glossy Box. It has been a great way to try high-end beauty products that I ordinarily would have never purchased.

A couple of things about Ipsy: Their reward program is no good You tend to see multiples of the same type of product fairly often (black eyeliner pencil seems to be the main culprit).
There is also an ELF subscription you could check out (www.elfcosmetics.com). It is listed at the top of the home page as "beauty bundles."
Birchbox has a great rewards system, but does tend to skew a little older.
If you're interested, there are many reviews on YouTube for all kinds of beauty boxes. Just type in the name of the box and the date (e.g. November 2014) and you'll see a bunch. Or type in "beauty box subscription" of "box opening."

Are these various beauty boxes geared only to the young and vivacious? I subscribed to a monthly box many years ago and most of the products went unused. Bright red lipsticks and nail polishes. Wild eye shadow colors.
