Hi everyone! I just saw a cat across the way from me open the curtains so that he/she could look out! My mum says that my cat, Ella, is doing some very strange and out of character things this week ... it is concerning because she is 16 ... hope it's nothing to worry about! I'm not doing much during the early part of the day today but my mum and my dd's are coming over later for dinner. Emma suggested takeout ... who am I to argue? This is what I posted on Facebook today ... I usually take a list with me to the grocery store but the list is often missing a few things. Sorry it's so big!!!!! What are your plans today? What is on your menu tonight? Have a relaxing Sunday everybody!

leannec - I hope kitty is ok And I feel that meme - especially now DH can't drive at night so popping out for anything I missed is so much more complicated. Dinner tonight is already in the crockpot - apple cider beef stew. Debating whether to make a loaf of bread to go with it or not.

Yes Linda that dinner needs a fresh loaf of bread. leannec I love the meme and it totally happens to me too. The good news is that Jeremy shops like every day or every other day. Yesterday I went to the farmers market and I did have a list. It was too funny because my lunch friend yesterday showed me how he has on his phone a schedule of meals for two weeks and it automatically adds things to his electronic shopping list and then this app to order groceries for delivery...and I was like here's my pen on notebook paper. Lol! I'm doing laundry. I made some apple muffins this morning. And now I'm crocheting. Jeremy is finishing up a movie and then he's going to hit the grocery store for his food. And I'm hoping he finds me some wheat berries. I couldn't find them yesterday.

tonight is salmon leftovers and salad. it has been snowing all morning.. little dog didn't poop on his early run, so about to take him out again.
dh made it to the hospital late afternoon.. his mom was not too responsive though he thinks she knew him. he went home after a few hours and got the call a few hours later that she had passed away. we are glad she did not linger, knowing how she was not in a good space.
so now he thinks he will be away a few weeks.
so now I know what we will be doing the rest of the year.. dh has been this before with his dad.. and all the paperwork is up to date.

ntsf , I'm sorry about your DH's mom but glad she didn't linger. We just got back from a 2 mile hike. The streams on the trail near us are flowing beautifully. Love the sound! We're having the AF Steak Bites that I didn't make the other day.

ntsf - I am so sorry for your loss. This morning we went to church. I had my First Communion class and the we went into the Mass after the readings and sermon. Our elderly priest was saying the Mass again today and I feel he has slipped even further than the last time we saw him. I really don’t know how much longer he will be able to continue, which is sad as he is a lovely man and doing Mass for us probably gives him a purpose in life. I was so very proud of my adoptive home today. In the past few years, a new far-right political party has started to gain traction in Germany. They are called Alternativ für Deutschland and they have always been anti EU and anti immigration. Lately, they have ramped up the rhetoric, getting to the point of suggesting that if they gain power, they will deport all immigrants, including some of those who have become German citizens! It is scary enough to see this type of thing in other countries, but here, where it didn’t end well the last time it was tried, it is just unthinkable that they should gain power. There have been demonstrations across the country this weekend and Munich’s was today. The organisers planned on about 20K participants and the police planned for double that. They had to call it off just before the scheduled start time as 200K people turned up! That is roughly 1/10 of the population of Munich! I am so glad that we told the world that we won’t tolerate nazis here again. There is momentum gathering to have the party banned - the post WWII constitution allows for this. Dinner here was pork cordon bleu with noodles and mixed vegetables.

ntsf, I'm very sorry about your mil's passing. Though it's a good thing that she was able to see her son. Maybe that helped to give her peace. May her memory be for a blessing to all who knew her. How are you doing? leannec, will there be some Scrabble later? Dh and I went out early to a nice coffee/bakery. He had a yummy looking apple pastry and I had a coffee. We're practicing for retirement in a few weeks. It's a nice way to start the day. Dh will be watching football and doing some puttering today. I'm hoping to get into my office, but I'm very tired. Dinner will either be chicken chow mein a'la' dh or I'll make enchiladas. I've been threatening to make them for 2 weeks now. Enjoy today, my friends.

leannec that meme fits me perfectly! linda your beef stew sounds delicious. ntsf I am so sorry. I am glad your husband made it in tome to see her. It's a work day. It's been busy. The weather is finally starting to turn. Meaning it will be in double digits today. Dinner will be rechauffe jalapeno popper chicken.

sueg , that is really scary stuff. Germany has worked so hard to detach from the nazi party and turn itself around. It's become the lovely country w/fresh markets and beautiful architecture. That there is an uprising in hatred scares me. Let's not have history repeat itself in Germany. Then again, in the USA we have a population of white supremists and anti-semetic people. Neo nazis and the White Arayan race are still active, but the FBI has an entire division devoted to keeping these animals at bay. There is anti-everything. Why can't people learn that everyone deserves peace and happiness. I'm not better than you because I'm ... I don't want to sully the dinner thread w/my opinions, but, yikes.

ntsf I’m so glad your dh saw his mom one last time. I’m sure he is too. I’m so sorry for your loss. sueg sometimes I watch the news and think I have to be somewhere else. People really are awful sometimes. I’m watching Luke. Dd is prepping for an interview tomorrow. She applied for a promotion at work. He’s napping so I’m working on sketches for my enamel pieces. I really need to go to this giant thrift store. I want to get some old compacts or tins and then enamel mini scenes in them. I’ve been to quite a few but have come up empty handed. I also need to come up with a piece for an auction for the Audubon center. That’s where our next show is I have til 12/8 but I also need a full inventory of things to sell there too. Dinner could be salmon and veggies Probably will be because I need to save the soup for tomorrow after my filling removal and crown placement. The afternoon will be dedicated to watching the lions. Dh has been a fan his whole life. Luke is resisting wearing his jersey.

ntsf: My condolences to you and your DH. We’ve been busy this morning just getting things put back and/or rearranged in the livingroom. Some pictures have been moved to different places and a huge clock that used to be above the fireplace is now on another wall. I sat and watched tv last night (yeah Chicago Fire, Med and PD are back) while enjoying a fire. I kinda like my new space. For some reason by the time we got around to eating supper last night, it was way later than normal for us. So we didn’t grill but instead just raided the fridge. Hopefully tonight we will grill steak. Not much happening later this week except Walker gets neutered on Friday. Not looking forward to that adventure.

I think we all feel that glad she didn't linger, wasn't in pain a long time.. and at almost 97, it is expected. we are sad, but she did amazing things in her life, and she will be remembered by her kids and grandkids. the last photo album I made her was titled "I'm a climber".. and there were pictures of her on mountain tops and out climbing with her husband. she grew up in poverty in the depression and that always affected her.. I think her little sister will be most affected.. they were close-- though her sister is 10 yrs younger. but also she was the last parent of dh and I to pass away. there will be no service.. so most stuff can be put off til spring.

sueg...I hate to say it , but that sounds like a former president in the US who is vying for reelection.....Scary Stuff. I'm glad the demonstration was called off.

In Canada, we depend on immigration for so many things ... yes, we have discrimination but not political parties who are trying to kick them all out! leannec, will there be some Scrabble later? Sadly no ... Emma won't be coming over early enough

karenlou - yes, it is very similar to what I see happening in the US with regards to the Orange Menace. But to be clear - this demonstration was planned by a group called ‘Gemeinsam Gegen Rechts’ or ‘Together against Right extremism’, so against the Neo Nazi groups. It was called off for safety reasons - there just weren’t enough police available for so many people. It didn’t help that we had a football game on in the city as well, with another 75K people in attendance. So we had 200K people turn out to protest AGAINST the neo nazi groups leannec, so you see this additional info too

I think germany has done a better job facing its past and educating its people on the past and the events that led to all the wars. The us has such scattered poor education on history. I used to be a interpretive park ranger talking history to the public and I could not assume anyone had any information.
food can bring people together.. maybe we need more community meal events.. sit and talk to your neighbor... find out that they make think differently, (some things are beyond the pale however).. not badly.

I think germany has done a better job facing its past and educating its people on the past and the events that led to all the wars. The us has such scattered poor education on history. I used to be a interpretive park ranger talking history to the public and I could not assume anyone had any information. Yes, Germany has (eventually - it took until the late 1960s/early 70s) done a lot of self reflection over the type of society it was and now wants to be. There is even one of those long German compound words to describe it, which I learned in my compulsory German history class I had to take when I moved here, but forget now. Across the country, you find museums called ‘Documentation Centres’, which address various issues related to the past, both the Nazi era and Cold War East Germany. The holocaust is taught at high school level and and field trips to concentration camps are a part of the curriculum. I remember our first trip to Berlin - we did a walking tour our first day and our guide was a late 20s German woman. At the site of the SS headquarters, now one of the Docu centres, she spoke of her grandfather that he was an SS member. She said he only ever told one story of the war, one where he rescued a young child, and said ‘ it was probably the only thing he could talk about that wouldn’t have had us hating him’ and said that their probably wasn’t a family in the country that didn’t have a similar story. I think that is why the current resurgence of the far right has so many people concerned. There are still people alive who remember WWII, and I personally know people who grew up in the former east. Nostalgia for the past is common these days, but how anyone can think that 1930s Germany is something to look back on positively is beyond my comprehension.

@ntfs I am so glad your DH was able to see his mom one last time. May the memories your family has, help you get through this time.
We are having a pretty slow day here. DD hurt her foot doing a trick yesterday in a dance so I am glad we had nothing other than dinner out planned. Which brings me to...we are going out for dinner. We are meeting some longtime friends at a local restaurant that lost business last week because of the snow/ice storm. Our friends own a brewery but every time we try to go to dinner there, our friend gets sucked into some kind of something that is going on. So, we going to another local place. I have one thing I get there, and it is my absolute favorite. I have tried to recreate it at home and I never get it right.
I hope everyone has a great day

Happy Sunday!
I just got back from getting my hair done. My sister and mom go with and we bring mimosas and snacks so it's a fun girls' time. I'm waiting for my BIL to come over and hang my new tv. I'm so excited! I'm watching football today and I can't wait to see how it looks on the new set!
Dinner will be pizza that I picked up from the take-n-bake place next to my hairdresser, Papa Murphys. They used to be all over but the closest one is by her which is 30 mins away. I always get pizza on hair days.
Hope you all have a great day~

ntsf, I’m sorry to hear about your MIL’s passing but grateful it was fairly quick. I hope we can get together again in the spring. Dinner is supposed to be at a brewpub. We were invited to a retirement party for my brother’s friend. But my sister went to take mom to urgent care for a sinus infection (before it turns into pneumonia AGAIN), so I don’t know if we’re going to make it or not. If not, there’s several days’ worth of cabbage & meatball stew in my fridge. Apparently no one in my family knows how to cook except for a crowd. sueg, thank you for the report. It is heartening to know that large numbers of people are resisting. rymeswithpurple, Country Joe & the Fish used to live/rehearse in a house about a block from my high school. People would stand outside their home and listen to them play. Actually, the rumor was that it was Joe’s parents’ house. I saw lots of those legendary groups at the Fillmore and Winterland back in the day. I saw Jimi Hendrix live in Berkeley shortly before his death. Love having a new generation to share this boastfulness with.

Today is an easy, eat what's already in the fridge kind of day.
I'm willing to make grilled cheese to go with the split pea soup and/or chili that has already been made.
There's plenty of fruit.
There are pasta dishes and potato dishes already in the fridge.

sueg Glad to hear so many are protesting that. My mother was in Europe during WWII and we had friends who were and survived the camps so still real to me. On a school trip one stop was to a concentration camp in Germany. I hated being there but it's an education tool. ntsf so sorry for your dh's and your's loss. taylortroop if Walker is very active you might ask for a mild sedative. That helped Finn. We also bought a softer cone collar which helped. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CPQ44Q1C/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1littlemama I love manicotti! I haven't made that in a while. Maybe next time DS comes home. I'm starting to research kitchen remodels on Houzz. So many things to think about. Yesterday's kitchen floor made a mess and even blew stuff into the oven. DH decided to run the self cleaning function and the odor is horrible!! We have all the windows open. So I'm not sure what dinner will be tonight. Maybe chicken teriyaki, maybe takeout....
