I have pictures in my head easily - like reading your bureau description puts a distinct image in my head. I have constant inner monologues, usually a few threads going. It's pretty exhausting. My inner monologue each time I come back to this thread is what is the size of the elephant giraffe bureau. At first reading I pictured a 2 drawer ‘bureau with the legs and the trunk, kind of the size of a night table. but since then I’m arguing that that isn’t accurate because that’s a night table not a bureau so since then im vacillating between a 3 drawer wide bureau, a 4 drawer wide bureau, or a 5 drawer tall narrow bureau like a lingerie dresser. I keep coming back to the 3 drawer wide but then doubt myself. I do not have perfect photographic memory I am sorry. But that made me laugh.

I keep coming back to the 3 drawers wide but then doubt myself. Well, great! Now I'm doubting too!! LOL I pictured 5 drawer tall, FWIW. But, as I was reading your descriptions of the other sizes, I could "see" them too. This is all fascinating to me! I truly thought that it was just a thing, and everyone could "see" things that way. Most of what everyone has said is how I am as well. But, add to that tinnitus. I have such a tough time describing it that I really had no idea that everyone didn't "hear" the constant sound that I have in my head. The best way I've found to describe it is when you hold a big conch shell up to your ear, and you "hear the ocean", that is the sound that is always there for me. Sometimes it seems to go away because of the other noises around me, but it's always there.

I have heard about it before--Like others have said, I don't "close my eyes and see behind the eyes" but I just visualize everything and anything in my brain. Yes, I can see the elephant/giraffe furniture. I always wonder how do you remember. Especially if yu don't hear or see anything? How do you think of your past memories/childhood? I can walk myself through my childhood homes, grandparents' homes, etc... I can remember things that happened and replay them but I can also just give myself a tour of the house. I can put myself back in my car and replay my vacations/trips. etc... I can remember helping my boys dress for hockey when they were five, I can see my son playing his hockey game last Thursday, and I can visualize him playing his next one and what might happen--I can make up this story and see it play out in my brain. I cannot truly quiet my brain. I can sometimes have moments during meditation but I have to work at it and it is only briefly. I can't imagine not being able to do either; however, it would be nice to shut it off. It would definitely help my anxiety. ETA: I am not a good drawer, but I am very good at graphic design and can put things together on Canva (little longer for Photoshop) that look professional in minutes. I have a natural eye for photography. If it doesn't involve math or hand-eye coordination (like quilting or drawing) I am great at it. I am also good at generating ideas on the spot. All of this is me. I had to have an MRI last week and was very anxious so to clear my brain I started drawing maps of places in my head - I walked through the school where I work; the neighborhood I lived in growing up etc.... I also am not a great artist but can see what works and what doesn't, very quickly.

I wonder what other things we all assume are the same as everyone else's experiences but aren't... I have always wondered if we all saw the exact same colors. Is my blue the same as everyone else’s blue? I know we can all point and name colors as the same thing, but if I was able to piggyback someone else’s brain, would their color green be exactly the same as what I see when I say something is green? My father and my nephew are both red/green color blind. It is the most common type of color blindness and is hereditary. Typically it won’t affect your life, but can limit some career choices.

I saw a Tiktok about this last year and my mind was blown. I see everything in great detail in my mind, like replaying a movie and had no idea some people only saw black.
I was with my family and we had this discussion and only 3 of us were like me, and all three of us were creative and avid readers.
When I'm going to try a new recipe I imagine myself making it step by step, what the food looks like as it's being prepared, I see myself making the entire dish before I even start.
When I'm shopping I can 'see' what's in my closet, pick up a blouse and see it in my mind's eye what it would look like paired with a skirt I have.
I can't fathom what it's like not to have that ability, it actually makes me sad that many/most? people can't?
I know my DH can't, cause when I send him to the store I can recall the aisles and tell him exactly where to find the chicken bullion and he thinks I'm crazy lol.

Aphantasia is considered rare and is estimated to affect 1-14% of the population. Most people can see images in their head.

How do you think it? I don’t see how that would work without images. Is it an internal monologue? Yes, it's internal monologue. I think in words, not images. It's like reading a book. But, that description probably doesn't make any sense to someone who sees a movie in their head when they read books. So, it might be more like listening to someone tell a story. I have both words and pictures. So when I read, my brain is silently narrating. With accents sometimes. I see pictures/ videos when I am imagining something. It’s a lot. 😬 No wonder I am so easily distracted.

I “see” things in my mind, doesn’t matter if my eyes are open or closed. I can easily visualize how things would look if I wanted to move furniture in a room or pair one piece of clothing in a store with something I already have at home. I can also color match from memory quite accurately, meaning if I have something I want to match with something else, I don’t need to have the original thing with me to know exactly which shade or tint it is when I’m looking for other things that will coordinate with it.
When I’m reading, I can picture in my head like a movie what the words are describing as I’m reading it. My kid dislikes reading aloud because she said she has an easier time visualizing the story if someone else is reading to her or if she is reading silently to herself vs. her reading it aloud to someone else. My dreams are like movies too.
I have a very hard time turning my brain off at night and have a never ending stream of consciousness going on with all kinds of random thoughts. Lately I’ll run through lists of categories of words I know in Spanish (name every kind of animal, every type of place, body parts, furniture, rooms, things) when I’m trying to fall asleep just because it’s a mundane and somewhat boring activity that shuts out other more worrysome thoughts that might be bugging me but that I can’t do anything about.

From lightbulbs (as long as shade doesn't block the actual light), headlights on cars, street lamps, flashlights. As long as I can see what is producing the light I will see rays/streaks/lines coming out of it. Like how little kids draw the sun as a circle with rays coming out of it. I see that with any light.

I know my DH can't, cause when I send him to the store I can recall the aisles and tell him exactly where to find the chicken bullion and he thinks I'm crazy lol. See, I can tell you where the bouillon is at our store too. I don't understand how or why. I cannot visualize an outfit unless I actually have the parts in front of me to see if they look good together. I think I am creative I do crafts and people seem to like my scrapbooking. I absolutely have to have the items in hand to work with them. I can't visualize how I want a layout to look until I'm actually working with the supplies. I can't plan ahead that way. I often find myself buying a paper or something at the store without my photographs and finding out they don't work the way I want them to and I'm actually working with them. I imagine it is because I can't visualize it till I'm actually working with it. Back when we had LSS I would take a four by six note card with me and put it on paper to see if I liked the scale of the pattern. I would also take different pieces of paper and put them next to each other to see if I'd like them together or not. I can't look at a piece of paper and think "oh I would like it with this piece I have at home". That is always a gamble. Even though I could describe a piece of paper I have at home. I'm also an avid reader I read all the time anytime I can. My grandson also has Aphantasia and he does not like reading because he says it's boring his sister loves it because she says she sees movies when she reads. That is actually how I found out about this. It was a conversation with them. Our brains are crazy.

How overwhelmed people are with emotion, I wonder what they're seeing all the time.

Yes, all the time Traffic lights, headlights, street lights. Here’s an example: https://www.reddit.com/r/oddlyterrifying/comments/15gl6cv/driving_at_night_with_astigmatism/ There was a lot of funny memes about it at Christmas time, what Christmas lights look like to people with vs without astigmatism - m.youtube.com/watch?v=MP4aznbXEAU

I see rays from lights too, mainly at night time but I'm just looking round the house now and yep, there they are! I have astigmatism in both eyes but wear correcting glasses and they DO correct the astigmatism but I still see the rays. I see a shimmering orb around some lights too.

My inner monologue each time I come back to this thread is what is the size of the elephant giraffe bureau. It is clearly a 3 drawer wide bureau, kind of a mid tone wood. I can't believe this is even a question.

I also see Christmas lights and car lights like that at night but not from light bulbs etc. I wear glasses for night driving now which make me feel a lot safer.
