My sister lives right outside Austin in the path of totality and I just booked my tickets to go see her and the eclipse! I saw the one in 2017 in the path of totality and I planned then to go see this one. I'm excited!
The flights on SW were filling up quickly and the Delta flights are crazy expensive. If you're flying, go ahead and get your ticket now!

National Geographic ranked watching the solar eclipse in Niagara Falls at No. 11 on its list of the top 20 travel experiences in the world for 2024, between hiking a volcano in Panama and trekking a glacier in Chile.
And Space.com listed Niagara Falls as the most scenic spot in America from which to view the celestial event.
In south Niagara, people in Port Colborne and Fort Erie will see the longest duration of totality, starting at 3:18 p.m. and lasting for three minutes and 44 seconds.
In northwest Niagara, Grimsby will see the shortest duration of two minutes and 40 seconds. Hamilton will have a totality of one minute and 48 seconds. Toronto will not see totality, only the partial phases.
Niagara Parks has scheduled viewing areas from which people can watch the eclipse. At Niagara Parks Power Station, Astronomy in Action will have its mobile planetarium and educators, including NASA and Canadian scientists, to provide information about the eclipse. Online registration is required.
Table Rock Centre will be hosting events for families and children, and the Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory will offer special programming and activities over the weekend. On April 8, an astronomer from Toronto Metropolitan University will be available to provide information on the eclipse.
At Old Fort Erie, NASA and Canadian scientists will be on site the day of the eclipse for question and answer sessions. Online registration is required.
Other prime viewing areas include Niagara River Parkway, Skylon Tower, Niagara SkyWheel and Queen Victoria Park in Niagara Falls, where an event viewing party is free.
Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) will temporarily open up four of its parks for overnight camping and day use, including Long Beach with 75 tented camping sites, Ball’s Falls with 75 tented camping sites, Chippawa Creek with 20 tented campsites and Binbrook Conservation Area with 200 day-use parking spots. NPCA is encouraging people to reserve a spot through its website, and — if people want to camp — to purchase a permit or day-use pass in advance. Walk-ins will not be permitted, said authority staff.
NPCA will also restrict access to high-risk conservation areas, such as trails, cliffs and water areas, during the eclipse to minimize health and safety risk. Physical barriers, signs and warnings through its website and social media platforms will be provided to the public. A page on the eclipse will be added to its website to provide needed information.
Various businesses are also hosting events, such as Grape Escape Wine Tours hosting Sips & Eclipse 2024, an eclipse gathering at Ravine Vineyard Estate Winery, which includes a welcome drink, food and live music. Tickets are still available.
Various municipalities, including Niagara Falls, are encouraging people to book their trip to the area as soon as possible. Niagara Falls, Ont., and Niagara Falls, N.Y., will be ground zero to view the eclipse. Eclipse chasers and other travellers have already grabbed hotel rooms in Niagara Falls on both sides of the border.

My parents (and aunt) are driving to Cleveland to check it out. I'll be in the thick of the last month before a huge work event, so I'll be, well, working. Dad asked if we wanted to drive up to see it with them, but I honestly really don't have the desire to...

We're in the path of totality here. As of right now our school district has a normal school day. I'm hoping that they at least close early, because the eclipse will happen while the busses are running. In addition to not having the greatest view from the bus, I'm concerned that people driving during the eclipse will be distracted. Other local districts have recently announced being closed that day or closing early, so hopefully our school will follow. It helps that we've used no snow days so far this year. Actually, maybe I'll send an email to the superintendent now while I'm thinking about it expressing my concern about the kids being on the bus during the eclipse. I agree! Better to not put the buses in the middle of all that! I was in the path of totality the Kansas City area in 2017. Traffic was insane! We live about 3 hours away and even giving traffic a couple of hours to clear, we were in gridlock all the way home! The three hour trip took us more than six hours! ;-)

We live in Florida and are planning to drive to the Finger Lakes region of NY to see it! They are in the path of totality. We love spending time up there. It's so beautiful. This will be an excuse to add an extra trip up for the year!!!

It would be very sad if it was a cloudy or rainy day but then again, there's plenty of wineries that we could visit!!! As a matter of fact, a lot of them are having 'watch' parties!

There is a of hype that since there will be so many of us, local and visitors, out to experience the event we should enjoy all together and with lots of festivities. 👍😆. I hope you have a wonderful time no matter what happens with the weather.

DH just found out they’re having a race in town that morning, which he’d love to participate in, but we aren’t leaving our house to get stuck in that traffic for anything! We are expecting 4 minutes and 23 seconds here with a very low chance of clouds IIRC.

We're in the path of totality. DS's school got a grant for solar glasses for all the students and they have several things planned for that day. I'm not sure about DD's school. I've got solar glasses to send with her if she has a chance to view it. We're supposed to get about 2 min of blackout I think.

Apparently where I am there will be about 75% coverage so while not a total eclipse, still pretty cool. It wasn’t even in my radar. DD will be in school during the peak time but I would be surprised if the science classes didn’t coordinate something so the kids could experience it. The last time there was one visible here we watched it on tv because we didn’t have the special glasses.

I think it will have to be clear just for the glamour of the alignment! Lol

My county has issued a local state of emergency. DH has decided he’s going to work from home that day. We’re not going anywhere. Wow. I think a lot of towns, especially smaller ones, will end up doing that. DH’s department is closed that day, and he is probably going to take the weekend before off as well because a lot of his weekend work is in Kerrville, which is also in the hill country. Regardless, our town will be inundated so even though he wouldn’t be working here he’d have to drive through it to get to work and back. I’m reading more and more and we are not the only place recommending you get all of your food and gas before everyone descends starting on Friday. For San Antonio residents that read this I wanted to make sure y’all know that not all of San Antonio is in the path of totality, the line pretty much cuts through SA. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 We won’t even have to leave our yard. Now watch it rain

I did a bit of research because I was confused, as my sister in Austin is only going to see about a minute and a half. Previously I had seen list of Texas towns and cities and how long it would last and I thought the time changed following the path of the eclipse, not that it was based on how far from the center of the path. So the list I saw must have been based on the places that were close to center. Totally logical if I had thought it out I’m still a bit confused because I saw something about the Witte having 5 more seconds than we do and they’re close to the edge and we’re close to the center, but I’ll just let that go as one of life’s mysteries, or, ya know, it was wrong.

We’re going to watch. We’re in the 99% but are going to my mom’s in the TX hill country because they’re in the 100%. My daughters are taking the day off work and are stupid excited. It makes me feel like they’re little again.

They said we might lose cell service due to demand. We will definitely have food and full tanks...just in case. My nephew in Austin is going to an eclipse wedding.

TXMary We were told the same in the pdf the city made available. They think the biggest impact will be Monday, and I’ll be missing my baseball game to watch the eclipse anyway. So I’ll just make sure I have a few books downloaded for the weekend and I’ll be all set! And we’ll be getting our food and gas on Thursday and plan to stay home until Tuesday. I’m hoping our neighborhood does something, regardless we’ll be grilling. It’ll be a PITA for all that live here and come here, but I’m not really bothered by any of it except that when people need emergency services it will take forever to get them in most places because of the traffic. During our Christmas parade and 4th of July fireworks show it takes literal hours to get to our neighborhood. And this is supposed to be worse. Fortunately the fire department is right across the street from the skilled nursing facility where DH works.
