Remember her old house slippers that Kyle made fun of? I have a pair of Old Navy slipper socks that live in my suitcase so I don't have to walk on a hotel carpet, ever. I'm Kathy. Lol 😄

I wouldn’t leave any of that stuff, unless it was Taylor Swift spending the night. 🤣 I would figure they would have brought what they needed with them. Possibly I would leave a bottle of water. So far the only people who have spent the night have been my grandchildren. They know there is extra toothpaste and toothbrushes in the bathroom drawer and would ask for anything they might want. I do leave extra blankets on the guest bed. Some of the things listed in this post are pretty over the top to me. When we have stayed at other peoples' homes, we bring what we need or we buy it when we go out if we missed something or want snacks. If I want a bottle of water, I know where they are. If Im cold, I can ask for a blanket.

When I have guests, I have a welcome basket on the bed with local items in it like postcards, pens, coconut hand cream, and Key Lime cookies. I also include a QR code for the wifi, extra toothbrushes and toothpaste, snacks, slipper socks, and bottled water. If my daughters or daughter-in-law come, there's also a pair of earrings or other small gift. At Christmas, I include seashell ornaments.
In the guest room, we have two queen beds, each with a bench at the end for suitcases and a dresser where they can unpack. An outlet strip and chargers are a must. I also have fresh flowers on the dresser, spa robes, and fresh towels in the bathroom. I keep nice toiletries in there, too.
Over the top? Yeah, probably, but I like to spoil the people who come and see me. My friends and family spoil me when I go to see them so fair's fair.

I forgot A FAN! I hate sleeping without one. I need the noise and I like the air. I have a fan stored in every room, just in case. I also bring one with me when I travel because most people/places I stay don't have one. Yes! Our guest room has a ceiling fan so that point is also covered. I personally like the white noise sound a fan makes, so much so that I bought myself one of those little sound machines to take on vacation. It’s about the size of a thick hockey puck and it has about 30 sounds to pick from.

When we visited my sister years ago she had a fun basket of stuff for us and one for our DD and it was so nice we started doing it too. It really is nice to not HAVE to ask for every little thing you might decide you want or need, or to have to remember to buy it when you’re out and about.

Man- my poor guests get the futon in the office/craft cave. 😂 They have pillows I’ve stolen from my kids for their visit, clean sheets, multiple blankets and free range of the kitchen. I often forget to put towels out but they know where the linen closet is. Most of the time they have their own reusable water bottle. We freely share the WiFi password with anyone who comes over so they most likely already have it. I don’t enjoy having house guests so I would rather not have people booking my house on purpose .

You also have a bunch of kids so that probably makes a difference. Growing up (8 kids) we never ever had overnight guests. Who wants to sleep on the couch when there are that many kids randomly milling through? My guess is that it would likely be just as uncomfortable for a guest as it is for the residents when there are a lot of people in one house, IMO.

With something like that we’d never even know we had a guest! 😁 I think we had six bedrooms and two baths growing up and all of those spaces were full of kids, LOL. The only place anyone could have slept was literally on the couch. As kids we never had sleepovers either, for the same reason.

Thanks for all the suggestions... sorry, I'm not currently booking reservations!
I do have a ceiling fan, portable fan, VERY nice sheets and towels, waste basket, Kleenex, nightlight, Dixie cups, bedside and headboard light and a few other things mentioned. I like the idea of photos from past things we've done and visited. We will have beautiful hydrangeas by the time the first friend visits, so I think they will make a nice bouquet.
As I said, these ladies have been friends for decades. They are the type that will help themselves to whatever is in the fridge and not think twice about using anything in my house. They in NO way expect any of this; I just enjoy doing it. They know I'm a freak that way, and we all get a good laugh out of it. But, as someone else said, it is nice to not have to ask for extra things if they are readily available.
I appreciate all the suggestions!

You pretty much have the list covered! I see some other posters suggested a fan, so that's good!
Also, I put a box of kleenex on the nightstand and a wastebasket nearby.

Ooh, can I come visit? Sounds lovely.
I always put fresh flowers in the room if I know the guests don't have allergies.

I also want to come and stay! Love all these suggestions. I want to someday have a home that I can have a guest bedroom or two, and make it a comfortable home away from home for any guests. Besides a bed, nightstands, chest of drawers - how about a nice comfy chair to relax and read or watch tv, and a small desk with a good lamp for makeup wearers. One thing I might not want are fresh flowers. Unless they are plastic. I have allergies that will have me using up an entire box of kleenex and then some. If you know your guests and know they don't have allergies, then they'd be a nice touch. I love flowers. They just don't love me.

I do the basics; good body wash, shampoo & conditioner in their bathroom; extra toothbrushes/toothpaste, etc. Once my brother in law joking said he wanted a mint on his pillow. I bought Andes Chocolate Mints and asked his wife ahead of time which side of the bed he slept on. I left a mint on both pillows, but I took a bite out of his and re-wrapped it.

There are exactly 2 people who regularly (2 times a year for 2-3 nights each time) come and stay with us and we’ve been friends for 30 years. My SIL and her family come every couple years- we go there sometimes- and we all have the same expectations- a bed and kitchen access. 😂
