WWII Museum. Fabulous! The welcome movie is narrated by Tom Hanks. We were there for 4 hours but could have stayed all day. We spent all day there and wished we could have spent a second - we really only saw the European side, not the Pacific.

If you can, eat at Tujagaues Restaurant on Decatur, it’s the second oldest restaurant in the quarter. I think the food is so much better than commanders and less commercialized! We never miss a chance to eat there. It’s in the middle of the quarter. Call for reservations so you don’t have to wait, because as with anything in the French Quarter lines build up quick.

Another thing to try for an informal lunch: a roast beef poboy, dressed! It should be slightly dripping gravy and, to this day, after moving to CA from Louisiana 40 years ago, my mouth still waters for one. Fortunately for me, I can still get a fairly decent poboy in Houston although the bread is just not quite the same. I grew up in a family sandwich shop on the west bank (and actually owned it for a short time). I prefer an oyster poboy with "nuttinonit".

I grew up in a family sandwich shop on the west bank We moved to the west bank in 1963 when I was a sophomore in high school. Transferred from Hawaii, it was quite the culture shock but I ended up loving it there.

I'll recommend a tourist spot - just because it was worth it! Cafe DeMond - the Beignets were amazing and some great street music across the street at (I think it is called) Jackson Square. It has been 10+ years since I was there. We took a plantation tour and also found a local that gave a cemetery tour with the final spot a little deli for PoBoys - YUM! Enjoy!

Cafe DeMond - the Beignets were amazing If it is really crowded, go to the walk-up window and take your beignets down the street and sit on a bench in the shade. Be careful if it's windy because you might end up with powdered sugar all over your dark clothes. Ask me how I know. We often ended up there after dances to eat the beignets.

We had fun at Mardi Gras World. You get to see how the floats are made. We also enjoyed one of the bus tours that took you around the city, talked about the history, the flooding during Katrina and took us into the cemeteries. My daughters and I had fun doing a Ghost Tour one night.
Pascale's Manale was by far the best restaurant we ate at in while we were in NOLA last year. It's tucked away off Napoleon in the Garden District. Very nice, white table cloth sort of place. Best food, hands down.
We liked wandering around the French Quarter, stopping in the little shops and just stopping to eat wherever the menu looked good.
We went out to the New Orleans City Park, visited the art museum, the botanical garden and stopped at the Cafe du Monde there. It was very pretty out there.

Please go to the Audubon Zoo and park for me! I grew up in the Monroe, LA area and haven't been since a small child. Never got to go again because my father got sick and died...
For sure have beignets at Cafe Du Monde! Even though I grew up in north Louisiana I now live two states west! I DO make the Louisiana state doughnut, beignets, both from scratch and from the Cafe Du Monde mix that I can find at Albertsons sometimes.
