Whatever crap is in the cafeteria, I imagine. Traditionally my family always did a ham. I didn't know that that's a Catholic thing per se but of the Irish Catholic families I grew up around, ham was pretty traditional on Easter. I was of the Polish Catholic family. We always had ham growing up. Don’t specifically remember what sides, but certainly nothing fancy, whatsoever. As an adult, I always serve ham. Baked potatoes, Brussel sprouts, deviled eggs and the infamous pink stuff. We love it as a holiday treat. 🩷

This is interesting to me. Do Catholics not do anything for easter with Jesus themed? I’m Catholic. My family celebrates Easter as a *bigger* religious holiday, holy day, than Christmas. I can only speak for myself, of course. In fact, oddly though it may be, I have always had deep feelings for Good Friday. And everything it entails. I try real hard to attend the Stations of the Cross. Palm Sunday is also important to our family. Again, only speaking about how me and my immediate family feel/act about Easter. I grew up in a religious Catholic family. On Good Friday we had to stay inside from the hours of 12-3 (hours of Christ’s agony), no tv or radio, just read the Bible. The Easter season is arguably the holiest Catholic holiday, beginning with Ash Wednesday, Lent, Palm Sunday and Easter week - Washing of the Feet, Last Supper, Good Friday and the Resurrection.

Grew up in a French Canadian Catholic family. Ham was the main meal at both sides’ (mother and father) meal. Since Holy Thursday and Good Friday are not holy days of obligation I don’t remember that we had a strict church schedule (plus my father does not attend church), and I didn’t have to do stations of the cross, etc. My mother attended but I wasn’t always required to. There was a bunch of us that did have to go to Ash Wednesday mass and had permission to leave, attend mass, and then we all Went back to school. You could always tell us Catholic kids walking around with the black ash crosses/smudges on our foreheads. 😄 I am not working this year. We stopped doing the large extended family Easter dinner during the Pandemic. And now that my grandmother passed away in October, sadly I. doubt we will ever go back to doing that. My brother’s family and I will go to my parents. Ham is on the menu.

A brunch buffet at an upscale restaurant. Reservations have been made. Easter is the most important religious celebration for me. There is Maundy Thursday (celebration of the Last Supper), Good Friday (Crucifixion of Christ), Easter Sunday Sunrise Service (Resurrection of Christ) and then regular morning church service. I'm grateful that I live in Ontario, Canada as Good Friday and Easter Sunday are Statutory Holidays (Federal & Optional Provincial) and most stores and businesses are closed. Easter Saturday is a horrible day for shopping as everyone is cramming in what they would have done on Friday and can't do on Sunday. I think that this is great because as Statutory holidays, they are paid holidays and employees (especially retail) can spend the days with their families. There will be arguments that stores should be open every single day but I'm glad that Canada is an outlier in this situation. This provides a work/life balance. Schools are closed on Good Friday as well as Easter Monday. And again, there are some exceptions to these rules; areas that are designated Tourist Destinations have the option of being open and what the local municipal jurisdiction by-laws have mandated. Easter Monday is a weird holiday as schools in Ontario and Federal/Provincial government offices are closed as is Canada Post (Crown Corporation) but Banks and retail are open. Apparently financial institutions cannot be closed for more than 3 days in a row. While I don’t totally disagree with you, the problem is there are a lot of other non-critical industries that will be open. So why not make it that way for all non critical places of work? And not everyone is religious or celebrates Easter. What about the work/life balance of all the people that are working in the restaurant that you will be having dinner at? I work for a health network so many will be working. I am not this year. A (extra) discretionary holiday was added to our paid holiday list this year (because of different cultures, religions, etc). I took Presidents’ Day as a way to use it up as I really had nothing else I could think of. I was going to take Bennington Battle day (a Vermont state holiday that only state workers seem to have off. 😆)

snyder can I join you for dinner? I will gladly bring some deviled eggs and a coconut cake! I have no clue what we are having for Easter this year. My Dad passed away last June and all of the holidays have sucked. We might go to the sunrise Mass at the Catholic cemetery where my parents and sister are buried (depending on the weather) and then stop at Krispy Kreme and get donuts and come home and have brunch. This has been a tradition since my sister passed in 2011. It will only be DH and I for dinner since DS works nights and will be sleeping. We will probably do a picnic type meal instead of hot food (other than a baked ham). Ham, potato salad, deviled eggs, vegetable tray, homemade yeast rolls or bread to make sandwiches. I know I need to step up and try to make it seem like a holiday since Easter used to be such a VBD (very big deal), but my heart is just not in it.

Those would be absolutely wonderful additons. Deviled eggs are liked by many of my family. And coconut cake! I had two aunts, one on my dad's side and one on my mom's side that bake coconut cakes from scratch. To die for. My son and I love just about anything coconut too.
Sorry for the loss of you dad and sister. It is ver difficult to adjust to their abscense from holidays. {{{{Hugs}}}}

Businesses were even closed in my town, on Good Friday, between 12 - 3. They debated over just being closed all day, or close at 12 for the day. But my town wanted the hours of 12 - 3 to be more recognized. That lasted for a long time. We were usually in church during those hours.

I'm not sure what we are doing for Easter. I know we'll have breakfast at church before the service but dinner is at my sister's house (she hosts everything) and she hasn't told me yet what we're having. I usually bring a side to go along with whatever. We'll have to get together soon and discuss.

I wish I was making leg of lamb but it’s just the three of us and I was going to buy a ham but I remembered we have some in the freezer from Christmas so we will have that. I like the idea of glazed carrots and some kind of potatoes and rolls. I used to make a fruit tart but I have no idea where the recipe went as I haven’t made it in years but it sounds good. I need to find the recipe and figure out the menu. I like the idea of fresh rolls made from dough in the bread machine I haven’t done that in years either.
I have a ton of candy for my sons basket and eggs. He still likes to hunt as we make it more challenging. I also plan to make little treat containers and send some candy in with my husband for his employees.
I need to get my buns in gear. I have three dr/dentist/PT appointments so we will see what really gets done. My shoulder isn’t currently bugging me so I may call and postpone that appointment no reason to get a shots if I don’t need them.

We don't eat it frequently these days but one of the big supermarkets just had legs at half price so I have one for Easter and a couple of spares in the freezer now - too good to miss

I’m struggling with the holiday to be honest.
I’ve ordered a ham from Cracker Barrel and will prob do mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, green beans. Maybe carrot cupcakes or a bunny cake, maybe oranges in jello, m&m cookies? Definitely some deviled eggs.
My sister wants us to come over at 6 am for an egg hunt because her 5 yo daughter wants a “family” egg hunt…my 15 yo and I want to sleep in lol and this is my first Easter without my older two home and I’m just not feeling it.
Trying to talk her into a casual lunch and call it a day.

We typically don’t celebrate Easter as such, but this year it’s on my birthday (officially over 50) so DH is making Cuban sandwiches for me. They’re so good but such a pain to make so we rarely have them. And that’s saying something coming from us as we cook involved dishes a lot. I have to decide what I want for breakfast and dessert. Does anyone have a great recipe for orange danish for non-bakers? We always get the canned kind. And while they’re good, I’d love something that tastes like it came from a bakery.

I’m sorry for all of you having such a hard time this holiday season (((hugs))). compeateropeator I love that your company has started moving in the right direction and added a day for other religions to celebrate their holidays. I really would like for all of the biggest holidays for each religion to have that time off available to them. gar and Merge I have only had lamb a couple of times but I agree, it’s sooo good. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything but maybe rack of lamb on special. Going to have to look up a recipe now. I’m struggling with the holiday to be honest. Ham and I’m not sure what else. I’ll figure it out tomorrow when I go pick up the ham I ordered (and yes I know it is Good Friday - it’s an independent grocery store that will be open tomorrow). I did see they have fresh asparagus, and if they have Brussels sprouts I’ll get some of those too. Maybe lemon meringue pie?

cat2007 I just found a scanned copy on my laptop:
A couple of notes for you: I usually use prosciutto instead of pancetta. And a couple of times I have made it with bacon (pre-cooked) because I didn't have prosciutto in the fridge and I was too lazy to go to the shops! You can make it with chicken eggs instead of quail, you would just use less of them, and they will take longer to cook. If I'm using chicken eggs I get rid of some of the egg white, otherwise the whole top of the tart would be covered in egg white! Quail eggs are definitely better to use. Also, I use puff pastry sheets rather than rolling out a block of puff pastry, so my tarts are usually square (unless I cut it down and use a rectangle tart tin - but most of the time I just put it on a baking tray). This looks delicious. Is it a dish that can travel.like a quiche, do you think? Or does it need to be served piping hot?

Original plan was ham but I refuse to spend $42 on a ham for just 2 of us. I haven’t been able to find a decent one cheaper than that. So we’re having steaks with mushrooms and green beans and the potato salad and sides are being eaten with burgers tonight

We're doing a to-go catered meal at my parents' house. I was in charge of ordering and the transportation. We're deviating from the traditional ham this year. We're having:
Herbed pork tenderloin Lemon artichoke chicken with pasta Roasted potatoes Honey roasted carrots Green salad with roasted pears Green beans Corn Rolls Nothing Bundt Cake Lemon Bunny Cake
I'm really looking forward to family time before DD returns to college Sunday night at the conclusion of her spring break.

Our church started a tradition years ago where the men cook breakfast for the congregation. It's a big spread so we have that then have a light dinner in the evening.
