Hi everyone! Now that it is over I can tell you about my week ... My young "friend" spent five days with me at my place while some work was being done on his house ... We both worked and did our own thing and then met up here at night ... It was fun because we are good friends but I can tell you that I have no intention of living with anyone anytime soon! Stuff left around, stuff not done "my way", etc. Maybe that's why I'm not very motivated to meet someone? I FINALLY got paid by my pension! Two months worth! Now I can start paying my mum back. This is what I posted on Facebook today ... I live a lone so it's a no brainer! I am on my way to get some groceries and then I will wait for my mum to get here ... we are washing her comforter here because I have a large capacity washer ... she hates duvets and covers ... that's all I use ... crazy woman! Her new hobby is counting the times she she the Stars Air Ambulance comes and goes from the top of the Foothills Hospital in Calgary ... she can see the action from her front window ... she's a nosy Nelly with OCD! We will decide on dinner when she gets here ... How is everyone feeling? I'm doing well other than feeling really run down ... What are your plans today? What is on your menu tonight? Have a great Saturday everybody!

Hi leannec I saw the meme on Facebook and I posted it on Jeremy's wall. I am both the breadwinner and the bread loser. 😂 As are you! 😘 I actually like living with Jeremy. I mean I could do without having the TV on 24/7 and his little piles of crap everywhere (there are ten empty coke cans on my coffee table) but he's good company. I went to see the doctor today about my thumb. It is not trigger finger cadoodlebug. They did X-rays and an ultrasound. There is either one mass or two in there. He could not tell if the second one was actually a continuation of the first, a ganglion cyst wrapped around the tendon or if the dark spot was because I have intense swelling or what. Either way it is in some way growing from or wrapped around the tendon. I am scheduled to meet with the surgeon on April 17th. But the doctor who saw me today said they probably won't be able to figure out what it is until he gets inside to see and sends it off to pathology. I have been having a lot of weakness in my finger. Pulling sensation. It's not quite pain. But he says that because that because the tendon is involved. He said it will probably take 2-3 weeks to heal and then I'll need occupational therapy afterwards to stretch and strengthen the thumb. So that's kinda sucks. He says that he's leaning toward it being a tumor but like 98% of them are benign. I'm not worried other than how long my hand will be out of commission. I'm going to quilt today while Jeremy works on ripping out the counters in the camper. We ended up with pizza last night. So to ight I'll make the Greek salad I've been threatening for 4 days now.

leannec , is your mother by any chance named Ethel Mertz? LOl. Get some rest this weekend and enjoy dinner w/your mum. jeremysgirl , sounds like a bit more complicated stuff than a typical ganglion, but once you recover you'll be in good shape. OT will help, so be diligent w/the exercises. Enjoy your day of quilting. What are you working on? I should hop over to the craft thread. **GypsyGirl** , I read the Buc-ee's thread. Is this a must-see on my next Houston trip or is it a lot of hype? I feel better this am. I'm gonna pick up my grocery order and then I'll take it easy. We have a busy week and I need my energy. One of my very favorite things to do is go to the ballpark. We have a fantastic stadium and I have to feel well for the game on Wed. I cannot wait. I need to pull out my t-shirt for the game. It's entirely possible that a puzzle could happen today. Ods is bringing home dinner and staying overnight. He has a space at a local antique store and he works a shift tmw. Have a fun, relaxing, nifty day, all!

I'm glad to hear that not only are you feeling better but you'll have two sweet nurses tonight scrapmaven. You need to get healthy for that game. Honestly the doctor didn't sound like he thought it was a big difficult thing or anything to be worried about. So I don't feel worried. I'm working on the camper quilt today.

As you know, my bestie and I are planning a trip, possibly a cruise. Now the husbands have decided they would like to go, which changes everything. My DH won’t fly for any longer than 6 hours and if we do the cruise from Iceland to Norway, the flight home from Norway would be 10 hours. So we are back to the research to find another option. At some point I think we will get a travel agent involved because there are just so many options.
Today is the start of our warmer weather. The sun is shining and it’s 10 degrees C. I’m going for a walk shortly and then will go for another walk with the dog later.
I just went down a rabbit hole on Amazon. I want a carpet runner for in front of our large livingroom window. Walker loves to sit there and watch the world go by, but his feet slide the whole time. I feel sorry for him trying to sit and watch the squirrels while sliding around. I did find one that is the right colour and size so hopefully it will work.
Supper will be something grilled.

Good morning and waves hello! I thought I’d pop in and say hi today. I think I stopped posting here around the time I got my new job and I literally had no time during the day to read/post. It’s a job with my same agency but it was a newly created program + I was new to being a supervisor + I had to hire and train a whole new team. It was (and still is!) a lot but I can say I have not once been bored (which I was in my previous position after 7 years). Be careful what you wish for I guess! 😂
This Sunday is dh’s birthday so the girls will come up and we will have lunch and cake and play games. Always games. Today I am scrapping and then I need to run to the store for some cake ingredients and clean up - it’s gotten a bit messy! Dinner tonight is Cajun fish and rice and broccoli. Hope you all are doing well.

Good morning! My massage was fabulous but someone with very heavy feet was stomping around upstairs. There is a group of about 40 older people who all have model-A cars staying here. They are so noisy they are driving us crazy.
It's sunny today so I'll probably walk downtown to get some fresh air. I hope to get take out from my favorite restaurant for dinner.

**GypsyGirl** , I read the Buc-ee's thread. Is this a must-see on my next Houston trip or is it a lot of hype? Only if you are stopping at one of the big ones IMO. It's a great stop on a road trip, but not sure I'd go to one just for the heck of it! Great food and snack options, lots of fun gifts and very clean/nice restrooms.

(there are ten empty coke cans on my coffee table) UGH! Kill me now! That wouldn't fly in my house ... even when my family lived with me! leannec , is your mother by any chance named Ethel Mertz? I KNOW!! One of the selling points of her unit was the fact that it faced the front and she could see all the comings and goings

scrapmaven I think Buccee's is worth seeing at least once if you are near one and have some spare time. There is a wild amount of...stuff in there. Fun to look at. Of course the food part of it wont be as fun for you. But, the bathrooms are amazing! I am making a chicken pot pie for dinner tonight. What do you serve with that? Ive made it 3 times over the winter and I felt like there should have been something else (oddly, when we have had frozen pot pies, I never gave a side dish a thought)

Well, I had a whole post typed out and it just got accidentally wiped out...so here goes again. I've had a very busy week at work, but I'm actually trying to stay busy because April 1st marks the one-year anniversary of my dad falling and breaking his arm (dominant side) at the shoulder, in and out of hospital & rehab/PT/OT....and his eventual decline. April 20 will be one year that he's been gone. My sister and I are keeping close and talking a lot, and also keeping our brother in prayers, as he is struggling with his own health issues. I've been having trouble sleeping sometimes, making the super-busy workdays a little more of a struggle. And I've been dragging...a lot. I know it's all part of the process and I'm working through it, it's just hard. Cue " I Will Survive!" But some really good things will also be happening this month: DD2 is coming to visit for a week later this month and I'm taking some days off while she's here, we're having not one but two big birthday celebrations for MIL for a milestone birthday, and MIL will be moving into her one-level condo right around the same time. The move will be difficult, though it's long overdue and will give all of us, DH's siblings and all of the extended family more peace of mind. Dinner last night was pizza for me, GF clam chowder for DH. DS went to a friend's house and made dinner there for some of their friend group. He brought home the leftovers (French Onion sliders - a favorite) so we'll be having those for lunches this weekend. Dinner tonight will be some kind of chicken, not sure what yet.

littlemama , I don't enjoy pot pies at all but when I think of them I always associate them with potatoes, especially mashed potatoes. Which is kind of silly, because some pot pies already contain potatoes...oh well, I'm not much help. Maybe just have a salad with it and call it a day. ...signed, someone who is not above ordering two different types of potatoes as sides with my main course at a restaurant. (Not often, mind you - but it has been done LOL)

scrappinwithoutpeas gosh it seems like so many of us have terrible anniversaries right around the same time. Hugs. Esther's is coming up too and I'm trying to hold my shit together too. Trying to keep my eye of the prize. Chloe graduates from her sobriety court program on April 17th. She will be a free woman. With a breathalyzer in her car until the state gives her back her full license.

Dinner will be split pea soup, and maybe some pineapple if I can manage to remember to cut it up. jeremysgirl, wow, I’m glad you took yourself in to the doctor. Keep us posted about what’s happening with your thumb, please. Which hand is this again? paget, so happy to see you dropping by. Good to hear what you’ve been up to lately. Congrats on the new big-time job. taylortroop, I was interested in everything you had to report. scrapmaven, you just behave! Take it easy until you feel better!

littlemama, my first thought would be a green salad if you want something to go with chicken pot pie. But I don't really think you need anything else. Maybe a fun, light dessert instead? Like cut-up fresh fruit with ice cream or sherbet on top? scrappinwithoutpeas and jeremysgirl, thinking of you both with your upcoming sad anniversaries. But YAY for Chloe!

Luckily it is my left hand lucyg and I am right-handed. I knew something was up because it feels like a small stone in there. I had been waiting to see my primary care doc in May. But then my thumb keeps getting weaker and weaker. Achy like. So I decided not to wait any longer.

littlemama in my mind chicken pot pie is a complete meal. Waves hi to paget! This recipe is so good! I add potatoes which aren't in the recipe, so I also tend to think it's a complete meal! Chicken- check Potatoes - check Peas, carrots, celery, onion - check Bread (crust) - check Gravy- well that's food for the soul!

That first year is so hard. Im not going to say that the anniversary will pass and things will be magically perfect, but I felt like the sharpness of the pain got a little better day to day after that point. We are also struggling hard- the last 2 weeks of March have been unkind to our family. Dh's dad died 3/17/2013 and his stepdad died 3/22/2024. It makes for a rough couple of weeks.

I've had a great day. DS and I went wine tasting today, but his husband has a cold so he couldn't join us. We missed him but it was good to have some alone time with DS.
Tonight we're eating pizza and watching college basketball. I'm not going to be ready to go home on Monday!

Good morning from a lovely sunny Sydney. Today is the last day of our trip down under - we’re on a 9:10pm flight out. We have tickets to see Ramses and the Gold of the Pharoahs early this afternoon. The rest of the family saw it Wednesday, but we couldn’t get tickets to that session. Sophia told me ‘You will just LOVE it Oma! It’s AMAZING!’ I think we’re going to the Art Gallery this morning. Dinner last night was at a really good steakhouse not far from our hotel. Just the two of us, as the others flew home during the afternoon. I got big cuddles from both girls as they went into the train station to head to the airport. Sophia normally hates saying goodbye to us, but was ok. Lucia suddenly got very snuggly with me and wanted lots of kisses on her cheek!
We’ve had a fun time here, but I will be glad to be back to my own bed on Monday night.

I miss some pieces of my old job a lot but it was time to move on for a few reasons. I’m getting happier with it! lol. It’s just high speed (mentally/emotionally) all day + I am dealing with perimenopause symptoms so after work I am DONE and Have barely anything in the tank for other things I need and want to do and that’s been hard. But I see a light at the end of the tunnel as my staff and I are all learning and eventually hope to be a little less hands on and more time to breath! I am in the same agency so I still work alongside people I used to as well so that is nice. And now I am 99% work from home I which is very good for me.

Have a safe trip back sueg . Wow, this visit just flew by, didn't it?! paget it's really lovely to see you here. jeremysgirl so it's a ganglion cyst, and there's potentially something else in there as well? Yikes! Did they give you any indication of how quickly they will be able to operate, after you meet with the surgeon on the 17th? DSO suggested toasted cheese sandwiches for dinner, but I desperately needed some vegetables. I am still confined to my bedroom, so I ordered Chinese takeaway, which DSO went to pick up. It didn't really hit the spot, the veggies were only broccoli, baby corn, mushrooms, and carrot. I really feel like a huge bowl of roasted vegetables.

AussieMeg they didn't know if it was a ganglion cyst or some kind of tumor. They also could not tell if it was a cyst wrapping around the tendon or if there are actually two tumors in there. He said it was possible that it was inflammation in the second spot. I'm meeting with the actual surgeon who will do the surgery on the 17th. So I'm hoping he takes another look. But the doctor today said he can't say definitively what it is and we might not know until he opens it up.

so hugs to those who need them and so good to hear from everyone.
because I was not on vacation, I went to my CM advisor's scrapbook day!!! a nice break and I had a good time. small group.
so I forgot to tell you all the best news and the other news. my daughter in new zealand is working to finish one last class for her accounting degree. she started her job search, thinking it would take 4-5 months as the economy in wellington is not good. well, she got 1 interview with a major accounting firm and she got the job!!! and they will pay her a hiring bonus and more than the job was advertised to pay. it is a graduate job meaning they will support her further education and test taking that she needs to become fully qualified. She is going into auditing.. which apparently no one wants to do. she is 35.. which probably helped and she has been on the other side of an audit.
my son has been struggling in his recruiting job.. he did cold calling and he couldn't get anyone hired (hiring medical staff in high demand jobs.. not easy).. he had a good meeting with the higher ups.. and they recognize he has been busting hard to make it work.. so they are going to have him organize events and do some marketing analysis. so he is still plugging away. His wife has a top notch corporate job.. I think he will be ok. this is his first job (at 37) that is not bartending or something similar.

Your son is working in my old wheelhouse.
I was a recruiter and started at temp agencies. W/many agencies you don't ever have to do cold calling. A good, established agency should have a laundry list of clients and an established group of candidates. You do need to pay your dues, so to speak, but a reputable agency shouldn't require anyone cold calling unless they're on the sales team. Those agencies have outside sales teams that do all of that work. The recruiter focuses on the candidate and not sales. A good recruiter is worth their weight in gold. My specialty was legal and business, but I had to work my way up the food chain. I lucked out along the way.
Your son can work his way into a recruiting position within an HR department of a company. The pay and benefits are so much better. Temp recruiting has lots of long hours and pressure unless you're w/a good agency. In the 90's most companies couldn't have afforded me. LOL.
