I went to tons of concerts in the 60's-80's but have no interest now. Crowds and loud music just aren't my thing. But I know lots of people who go regularly. These were my style, back in the day. John DenverPeter, Paul & Mary Bread Chicago Barry Manilow Dave Clark Five Herman's Hermits Elvis The Lettermen Bette Midler Paul McCartney (the last one I went to) Oh I would have loved to see him live. We saw John Denver live in 1975, he was just getting a following. Great evening.

This thread is making me sad all over again that I’ll never see Jimmy Buffet in concert ever again.

I enjoy concerts, but I'm picky about who I see. The price of tickets is outrageous. I don't like to sit in nosebleed, but sometimes ticket prices dictate it. I like smaller venues especially smaller outdoor venues. I don't go to near as many concerts as I used to, but I still go. My daughter and I went to the Goo Goo Dolls last summer at a small outdoor venue. Oldest daughter and I are going to see Vampire Weekend at the same venue in July. I did get better tickets for this one.I loved the Garth Brooks concert with 90,000 + people at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. The energy was electric. I would never go to a concert without reserved seats. In my younger days I went to concerts where you could stand in front of the stage. Fun and crazy, but way too much now. I'm going with my oldest daughter too! I'm so excited. She's seeing them 3x that week - once in DC and twice in NYC.

I also don't understand the clothing issue. I'm gonna get pelted with fruit for this one, but I think the emphasis on clothes is just a symptom of the narcissism of our current culture. It's not about what I look like. I'm going to throw the first tomato. Wanting to look nice isn't a symptom of narcissism. If it were, there wouldn't be a multi-billion dollar international fashion industry. Wanting to look nice doesn't equal narcissism. I love live music. Like really, really love live music. Like the way some people feel in awe while hiking in nature? That's the way I feel when I'm at a concert. With that said, I'm there for the music. I want to see the show, so sit your dancing ass down. I'm not there to dance. And the kinds of shows I see, I don't want your singing in my ears either. I've come to see the artist. Not you. We go out for music a couple of times a week and travel to see acts we like. I get it about not wanting to see someone's fat @$$ instead of the show I came to see. It's like an FU to everyone behind you. We go to small gigs in a pub, large gigs in a big venue, all day music festivals outside..... we love it all. When we travel, we google "jazz club near me" or "live music near me" and our favorite thing is to find some little hole in the wall with great music.

This thread is making me sad all over again that I’ll never see Jimmy Buffet in concert ever again. Agreed. I spent the last couple of days watching YouTube videos of parts of the ‘Keep the party going tribute ‘ to Jimmy that took place at Hollywood Bowl a bit ago (last week?). Oh my gosh, I am a bit embarrassed to admit how much water ended up leaking out of my eyes. 🥹. Some of the people giving tributes just slayed you. And just an amazing variety of people eulogizing him and playing his music. From Snoop Dog to Paul McCartney. Will Arnett’s Jimmy story was great. Hopefully it will be played/streamed in its entirety somewhere. And jack Johnson did a Pirate looks at 40, which in the beginning I was like why him…but it was a great tribute and he was excellent.

I used to go to a TON of concerts in the 80s/90s. I live less than 2 miles from a good sized outdoor venue so it's really easy for me to go to shows if I want. As I get older though, I need 'more' I need a show that's going to put on a show IYKWIM. I will see Duran Duran any time they're remotely close to me. I just love them and they put on a great show. Who have a I seen? Madonna Janet Jackson J Lo Duran Duran (more times than I can count) Jimmy Buffet Kiss Van Halen INXS Thompson Twins Go West OMD Elton John/Billy Joel (dueling pianos - amazing show) NKOTB New Edition Bel Biv Devoe Paula Abdual Boys to Men Bruce Springsteen Foo Fighters Alice in Chains Journey Stevie B Sweet Sensation En Vogue I'm sure I'm missing a ton. The venue that's close to me sells season passes for lawn seats. My BFF and her husband get them every year but if there's a show he doesn't want to go to and I do, I'll take his ticket. Granted, since becoming sick and being on lock down I haven't been to any shows. I think the last one I went to in March of 2020 (before the world shut down) was a Freestyle show at the Hard Rock. I LOVE freestyle music. LOVE IT.

I don't really care for concerts either. I have been to a handful but I don't go out of my way to go to them. Usually end up going because of free tickets or someone has an extra ticket.

I’m right there with you on the concerts. I no longer care to go for all the reasons you listed. But back in the day, I did see Elton John, Queen, Beach Boys, and Barry Manilow. Fun, but I’m not into crowds and paying all that money now. However, last month we were in Palm Springs and went to their Thursday evening street fair and happened upon a cover band called the K-Tel All Stars performing all 70’s hits. It was soooo much fun!! Good sized crowd, but it was all kinda spread out, no crowding, everyone singing and dancing along 😀👍🏻

I haven’t been to a concert in more than 20 years but am going to two this year. Generally speaking, live music at bars or other small venues isn’t really my thing, but I haven’t tried it, either, so maybe I would like it? I probably won’t go to another concert for years after this, but who knows?

I will not go to a big open air 10,000+ seat venue. However I have gone to concerts at our local Arts Centers. They are for less popular artists which in the past year we saw Weird Al and Straight No Chaser. I've never worried about what to wear, because I wear what is comfortable for me. I am certainly not one that makes a fashion statement in public (or maybe I do without even knowing it!)

I’m 67, and I go to more concerts than I ever have. I just got back from a girls’ weekend where two friends and I flew from three different states to San Diego to see Sting and Billy Joel. Fabulous show, even though it rained. (I brought the clear ponchos). Billy is the man, we saw him at MSG in 2022 first show after the pandemic. This time he was even more amazing. And I was concerned about the sound at an outdoor stadium of that size, but it was excellent. Then we had fun exploring the city for three days.
Yes, nobody cares what an older woman like me is wearing, I go for comfort.
I have a full schedule of shows coming up all the way through this fall. Some small outdoor venues, a couple at bigger ones.
I do not have my own house, or a lot of the things I thought I’d have at this stage of my life, but I’m determined to enjoy the things I can, and live music with friends and family makes me happy.

Right out of HS I went to concerts often. Big venues, small venues, outside, inside. When I met DH in college we went to tons of shows of all sizes. Once we had kids in our very late 30’s we haven’t gone to any. He took DD to see weird Al for her 8th birthday and that was the last concert anyone in my house has gone to.
DD is now almost 13 and wanted to go to Conan Gray at the Bill Graham Civic in SF. As soon as she told me it was there my anxiety shot up. People, cost, overnight in the city, not a great area. I think my concert days are very over.
I have seen Lollalpooza (a few times- no doubt, chili peppers, primus, Ice Cube, etc- can’t remember the years) Oingo Boingo multiple times Screaming trees Spin Doctors Soul Asylum Michael Penn Train (before they were famous at a tiny bar in Monterey) Tantric a few times Creed Collective Soul multiple times Depeche Mode INXS The Human League Eve 6 Matchbox 20 Static X Cranberries The Uninvited
I’m sure there are more that I can’t remember

I love love love live music. We go whenever possible. We’ve been to SXSW a couple of times and what an incredible blast. Seeing 30-40 performances in smaller venues in one week is just mind blowingly awesome (and exhausting but worth it).
I’ve been a huge fan of concerts since high school. In college, we’d take the shuttle up to Minneapolis at least a couple times a month to go to shows at First Ave. Saw so many epic shows. Lived in Seattle during the grunge era - a ton more shows then. When we lived on the Oregon coast, we didn’t see many because we were too remote. But since we’ve been close to Portland, we go to shows a lot again.

Picked up tickets yesterday to a local craft brewery’s 100th birthday celebration with a full day of local blues, rock, and funk artists. Super excited about that.
I have to say that one of my favorite things about being older is that we can afford VIP tickets for smaller events like this. In Houston in June, access to seating and air conditioning for at least part of the day (and better food than can be had in the GA area) makes the whole thing much more enjoyable.

I love concerts and I’ve been to lots of them in my life. As I’ve gotten older, there aren’t many I wanted to see and haven’t. Some of my favorites were Stevie Nicks, The Eagles, and Bruno Mars.
