Aaaaargh, you had an option for "neither one" but no option for "both". I say it both ways, but I have no idea under what circumstances I would say eye-thuh and when I would say ee-thuh. Wait, so you don’t say the r at the end? Hmm. I need to revise my “yeah, that” of gar’s post and realise I am more “yeah, that” of AussieMeg’s! I am definitely a thuh at the end and never a thurrr.

Well, now you mention it I probably am too! I was concentrating on the first syllable I guess it sounds just like saying the words 'eye' and 'the' together?

Both. It depends which way the wind is blowing!

I chose eye-ther as I say that most times. Same with n-eye-ther. But I've since realized that I say it both ways. I guess depending upon the circumstances.

You know, I've never thought about it before, but I use both versions.

My DH says I use them interchangeably, sometimes in the same conversation.

I use both, actually. Same for nee-ther/nigh-ther. Like some of the others it depends on the words around it.

Last night I was watching the news and they interviewed someone. This person pronounced “either” BOTH ways in the SAME sentence. I started laughing and SO didn’t know what was going on. What a coincidence. I guess I am attuned to that word right now. 😂

I do both! Either, either, neither, neither, let's call the whole thing off. the minute I read the OP, I heard this music in my head!!! one of my favorites! ...sigh... Fred and Ginger could certainly make ANYthing they sung and danced to catchy, and debonair, all at the same time.

EYE-thur and nEYE-thur for me---most of the time. (Sometimes I think I do say them the other way, but I don't know why.)
I'm in the northeast US. But I think I may be a bit of an anomaly with this pronunciation. It's not regional that I know of. I typically hear others say EE-thur and nEE-thur.
Same for ON-velope (which is how I say it) vs EN-velope, which is how most other people I know say it.
I never made a choice to say these words differently from others, so somewhere along the way in my early life I picked them up from someone, but I never noticed it enough to tell you who it may have been. I just know that DH has been teasing me about ON-velope since we met nearly 30 years ago. I remember looking it it up in a dictionary to prove that I was perfectly in my rights to say it that way, LOL!

Generally, Long e but sometimes long I. Why? I don't know what triggers the latter. I'll have to pay attention next time I hear me say it with a long I.lol

Both, depends on the words around it. yes that. Plus I had an elementary teacher who used to sing song either, eye-ther or- neither, n-eye-ther nor as some sort of rhyme but I can’t recall the rest of the rhyme
