Hey there everyone. I was a lurker on the old board (I had maybe 20 posts in three years, shameful!) as NwP. I've gone back to school (in my early 40s, ugh) and am taking 11 credits this summer (UGH). I have to do a Powerpoint presentation for a Communication class (Oral and Interpersonal Communication, would you believe it is an online class? [snort]) and am over-thinking everything. It's about non-verbal communication, specifically in a coffee shop or restaurant type business. Here's the part where I'd love your thoughts: I couldn't grab anything useful from the business' website, and I don't love the idea of using pictures or clip-art, BUT I don't want to do any busy background stuff either. Should I just stick with my bullet points (in a nice, uncomplicated serif font) on white or use a light color background or what? I've been working on this thing for so long (and still have to do an audio track) that my brain is now mush. Thanks in advance.

At least use a color. The simpler the better. The same with font/size. Choose a font/size for titles. Keep it throughout. Use the same font only smaller for text. Keep it throughout. Less complicated the better. Transitions-choose 1 and use it throughout. Have you looked here: Powerpoint templates

If you want it to be simple, I'd stick with bullet points, but use actions.
So when you click enter the first bullet point comes into view, then you have to click enter for each subsequent bullet point. That at least keeps it "interesting".

Seems to me that if you are talking about non verbal communication you need to show examples (pictures) of postures.
My rule for powerpoint is put as little text as possible, and make it large enough for everyone to see. It's deadly boring to watch someone read verbatim from a PPT. Put some key terms/titles/pics on your slides and bring your notes to speak from. And practice several times, out loud, in front of friends. Amazing what you'll pick up on.
