I know there are lots of people with varying views about loading the dishwasher. But it seems like we should all agree that loading back to front is logical because: 1. Then we do no to have to reach over dirty dishes 2. You can see at a glance how full the machine is *By 'back to front', I mean when the dishwasher is empty, you start adding the dirty ones by putting the items in the back, then move forward as the dirties accumulate throughout the loading process/day depending on your traffic volume of dirty dishes.

No. The way mine is set up it wouldn't work that way. Large items in the back, plates in the front. Top shelf is cups, plastic ware etc...I just load it as I go. Not worrying about where.

No I don't, because each particular item has it's own place in the dishwasher. My bowls go right/back, dinner plates left/back, small plates left/front, cutlery center/front. So it depends on what I'm putting in there.

So it depends on what I'm putting in there. I have things that only fit in certain spots in the dishwasher. Tall iced coffee cups ONLY fit on the left side. Bowls fit in facing forward and it's harder to load if I do back to front so those get loaded the opposite. Now the bottom rack where it's plates, I load from back to front.

No. There are different areas for different things. I put things where they go in the dishwasher, any other kind of order be damned. I'm also not reaching over anything. The racks are fully extended and I'm just putting something down onto them. I guess I don't see any problem with this.

I want to load it back to front, but my dishwasher is sized so that certain items fit in certain places in the dishwasher.

In mine, the racks are uniform, so there's no special place for anything. And the utensil tray is on the door.

Not really, but however everyone puts them in there, I have to rearrange everything anyway. I'm just happy when the dishes get put in there at all.

I do back to front on the top shelf, glasses and bowls. On the bottom shelf, I go from center out (plates) with the small plates in the middle and dinner plates on the outside. So sometimes I have to move them around.

Nope...ours is side to side. Large plates to the left facing right, small plates and bowls to the right facing right.

Mine is another that has a specific place for everything ... I actually do all of the loading in our house because I'm so anal about everything being in the correct spot

Yes, I do and for the reasons you mentioned. However, like gmcwife1, the people I live with do not comply. And like gale w I spend a whole lotta time rearranging!

Loading and unloading the dishwasher is my most loathed chore. I just try not to break any dishes because I'm so forceful in my angst for the entire process.

Nope, but mine seems to run from side to side, not back to front...if that makes sense.

No, certain things go in certain places so it would be impossible.

everything has a place so I load by item so I might switch from top to bottom, left to right, front to back.

Loading and unloading the dishwasher is my most loathed chore. I just try not to break any dishes because I'm so forceful in my angst for the entire process. This made me laugh - because, when I was going through perimenopause, loading and unloading the dishwasher used to just about send me over the edge. Don't know why that chore bugged me so much, but it did. And yes, there were more than a few forceful shoves of the racks and door. Doesn't bother me nearly as much these days.

Loading and unloading the dishwasher is my most loathed chore. I just try not to break any dishes because I'm so forceful in my angst for the entire process. I loathe it too and try to leave it for DH to do when I'm at work! However, one day I timed myself and I can unload and reload in less than 6 minutes. Seems a bit silly now to allow it to cause me so much angst for what takes so little time.

My bottom rack loads left to right. The top rack is more exciting. The left side (glasses/cups) loads back to front but the right side loads front to back (bowls).

I can't stop laughing at all the yes answers to "back to front". I was always taught to do NOTHING back to front. LOL

Basically yes, back to front... but in an order for the most part (if it is me loading).. plates on one side bowls on the opposite... but yeah back to front. If anyone else in the family does it, I am lucky it gets IN the dishwasher sloppy, I have to rearrange so I can make sure it is fully loaded... and usually have to remove something that takes up 1/2 the dishwasher because no one wants to take five seconds to hand wash it...
