Look, I'll admit to being pretty excited to see them packing the Red Sox truck for spring training today because I can't wait til baseball starts, but when all the news casters were saying "Happy Truck Day" that was a bit over the top for me. But...that's my favorite holiday right there! Go Red Sox!!! I can NOT wait for the season to start!

LOL! I like "lesser" holidays and I like doing a little something special for them *sometimes*, and I think that's what keeps them special. Some years you do something extra, others years you don't. But I don't crazy over them. All of that turns into a lot of time and effort and stuff that I don't want to deal with. I keep trying to simplify Christmas, so no way I'm going to build up others in its place. I swear, I think you're me sometimes! Some years I do a little something special. Some years I go overboard. Some years I do nothing. With a mix of different holidays getting attention different years. Gotta keep switching it up! I figure that if I do something special every year, they'll start to expect it, and then it won't be a special surprise any more. I'm just thinking of them, I swear. LOL!

I'm still waiting for the USA and Canada to pick-up on the German Fasching Season! I miss living in Germany.

You know which one I hated? The frickin' 100th day of school. I was that mom that sent in 100 cheerios or something. The other moms always did a much better job.
Now, Faschnacht Day, on the other hand? I had better have my faschnacht or my year is ruined. That should be a much bigger deal!

I am not creative at all! So I never did any craft like holiday stuff. Now there is pinterest, I could get all kinds of ideas. But my daughters are 11-17, so they are not in to that cutesy stuff anymore. I wish pinterest was around when they were young! I love Pinterest now that 99% of the things I pin are either funny, something to eat or something that looks interesting. The girls at work that were/are getting married got obsessive about Pinterest. It was all about the decorations, the different pictures to take, and something to give the guests. Honestly, spend the money on your dress, food or drink (if you are serving any), and maybe a good DJ. All of the stuff on Pinterest just kept adding up to $$$. I don't envy them when their babies start popping out either. That is a crazy subject too!

Now, Faschnacht Day, on the other hand? I had better have my faschnacht or my year is ruined. That should be a much bigger deal! I was going to reply this as well. This year, my DD's new school has celebrated EVERY 10th day of school. WTF? And since the 50th day, they have been clothing themed. They sent home a note saying, "we can't wait to see all the poodle skirts." Yes, because I just have one of those right here. Then 10 days later the 60's. But then the snow days started stacking up and nobody knew when the 80th and 90th days of school were. We missed the 90th one and DD said "thank goodness, I hated this." LOL! But I ain't got time to do 80's or 50's hair! So far, we have no direction for 100th day. I sent raisins last year. Yep- that mom. I did googly eyes the year before. Now I have 100 googly eyes. I thought they left that crap at school!!! LOL! And I agree that fasching would be something I could get into!!

Ok, I'll admit it. I made goodie bags for my son's class. I tend to go overboard because as a child, my mom would never do anything for me. She was always too busy with her job. Now my kid will probably grow up to hate me, lol! I am that grandma now! My mom never had any imagination or patience for that stuff, and I didn't know any better when my kids were young. Now I finally have it down, and I have my grandson to smother with attention. We made 24 valentines treat bags for kindergarten plus more for his (part-time) daycare. Hopefully the other moms won't hate me. My son is super picky about what he eats, so thank you to all the moms/caregivers who included the skittles, kool aid drink, and other treats he won't touch. To answer the OP's question, grandparents day will become a bigger thing.

Ds was just born on groundhog's day so I know that one will be big at our house in the future! We are thinking of home schooling so maybe others will be spared from my over crafting zealousness. My mom was the mom who would bring fresh baked cookies to tennis practice just because or bake me a cake for an after school snack so I was trained well :-)
