I don't have any particular suggestions for a 2 year old...my kids are 11 & 13, so it's been awhile. Also not sure about Japenese places of interest.
There are 2 zoos- Woodland Park in Seattle and Pt Defiance in Tacoma. Woodland Park is a far superior zoo. However, I would not discount Pt Defiance for a 2 year old. I used to like taking my kids there at that age because it's more manageable size wise. It's pretty easy to see it all in a few hours. They also have an aquarium, which I enjoy. In Seattle the Aquarium is seperate.
I also like NW Trek in Eatonville. It's more of a wildlife park where you can sit on a tram and get a tour. You can also explore on foot.
Lastly, my absolute favorite is the Olympic Game Farm Park. It's on the peninsula-so quite a distance away, but so much fun. They have large game in the park and you drive your car through. You can buy a bag of bread to feed to the animals. Love the experience.
Hope this helps

The zoo is great...it's a bit hilly, so definitely have a stroller. Not sure on the Japanese tourists question...other than the typical stuff that any tourist would like. There is a great Asian market, Uwajimaya.

Experience Music Project (EMP) should be enjoyed by all. The market is also awesome. Let each one pick food at a different stall. Take a ride on the monorail and get a bubble tea in the mall.

For the Japanese tourists (or any tourist) look into Tillicum Village on Blake island.....Native American culture and dancing along with a salmon dinner and a cruise on Elliot Bay.
They may also be interested in a quick trip to Cananda - check out the Victoria Clipper.
i would also plan a few hours at a Costco....Some of them may already be members and for those that aren't, they could still shop but would need to have a Costco gift card to get in the door and make a purchase.

Thanks for the shopping tips. The Japanese market looks great, and I forgot about Costco. Gift buying is a big priority! Ice cream on Bainbridge Island looks delish! So many flavors of chocolate may be swoon inducing!
