We have a art fair in a quant little city near me. Wyandotte Art Fair in Wyandotte Michigan. It starts tomorrow through Saturday. Not only do they have art booths from artist and crafters from all over the country, (the same artists go on to Ann Arbor's fair next week and Ann Arbor's street fair is huge) all the stores along the street have great sales going on. My best friend owns a candy store on the Main Street and he will be having all sorts of fun stuff going on. I'll be helping him tomorrow so I'll take some pics. There is music in the band shell and of course a beer tent. . Here is more info in case you're in the neighborhood. link

What a fun tradition! Our biggest "fair" would be the Iowa State Fair, which I have also been to every year for as long as I can remember! Makes me want to bust into song... "Our state fair is a great state fair! Don't miss it, don't even be late!!!" "All I know all I owe I owe I-O-Way..." Our city has a 4th of July celebration with parade. We don't always go because it's CROWDED and CRAZY! And because 2 weeks later it's always the town celebration up at our cabin where we try to always go. We celebrate the family summer birthdays and go to the carnival, parade, and fireworks in town.

I live 3 hours south of Calgary, I've always wanted to go to Stampede, just never worked out. Here we have Cornfest, the largest free festival in the area. It's near the end of August, and it's a great time.

We have a weekend home in the small NC town of Oriental. Oriental is best known as a community where there are more boats than people. It is the sailing capital of NC. The 1st Saturday in July they host the "Croaker Festival". In addition to fireworks, one of the big events of the festival is a parade. Here is a link to the parade pictures - towndock.net/news/croakerfest-2014-parade?pg=1

sbartist I can hear "do the Puyallup" theme song in my head right now. Ours is also the PNE, but I haven't been since I was pregnant with my oldest, so 7 years ago. The other closest fair is the NW Washington Fair in Lynden, WA. We do go to that most years and love it.

In Melbourne we have the Moomba Festival on the Labour Day long weekend in March. It's been running since 1955. The events include the Moomba parade through the streets of Melbourne, where they also crown the King and Queen of Moomba. There are carnival rides, fireworks, live bands and the Moomba Masters (an international water ski event). And don't forget the world famous Birdman Rally: Competitors have to jump off a platform into the river. The one who jumps/flies the furthest is the winner. The official translation of "Moomba" (an aboriginal word) is supposedly "Let's get together and have fun" but the story goes that it actually means "Up ya bum!"

We also have the Royal Melbourne Show in September. We even used to get a public holiday on the second last Thursday in September for Show Day, which some years fell on my birthday. The show runs for a week (I think?). There are rides, woodchop competitions, animal competitions and exhibitions (dogs, sheep, horses etc), cooking exhibitions and baking competitions, fireworks.
When I was a kid I was never interested in all the animal stuff - I only wanted to go for the rides and showbags!

Ours is the Topsfield Fair -- America's oldest agricultural fair. They're known for their Giant Pumpkin contest, with the winner being over 1700 lbs. I love all the agricultural stuff -- bunnies, flowers, vegetables, sheep shearing, bee keeping, pig racing. I totally skip the rides and games.

In my area, there's the Hot Air Balloons Festival. Some years, we host the National Championship. Sometimes we host the World championship.
We're also home to the World's Longest Breakfast Table and have a 3 day "festival" around it. It has become a food grab for some because it's free.

In our general area we have a state fair that is usually the larger of the two state fairs in Oklahoma. We also have Oktoberfest which is pretty popular, and Mayfest which has arts, crafts and entertainment.
In my actual town we have Rooster Days Festival which, as far as I can tell, is a lot of hype about nothing. Other than the parade. The parade is fun.

What fun! I would love to visit Calgary. We have small 4H fairs, Applefest, Autumn Leaf Festivals, etc. Yesterday a friend an I drove a couple of hours to attend Penn State's Art Festival. That is a wonderful event!

I live in Sacramento and we have the California State Fair which actually opens tomorrow and I think it runs for about two weeks. My mom and I go every year. They have concerts, but they are definitely not big name stars. The cool new feature of the fair is that we now have the letters that were in front of Disney California Adventure. They moved up here last year.

Fairs in Texas are often held in the fall. The big one here, is the Great State Fair of Texas!! bigtex.com/It lasts for about 3 weeks. Love going. We NEVER visit the midway nor ride any rides, just enjoy the exhibits. In February, the big thing to visit is the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. The rodeo was the first rodeo to be held indoors. It is in a small arena, but is always fun to attend. www.fwssr.com/FW rodeo is such an event that in the past there have been divorce decrees that indicated who got the season tickets for upcoming years. (or so they say)

I've never lived in a town with it's own 'fair'- although I grew up in South Pasadena, CA, which is close enough to Pasadena that I always felt the Rose Parade was our own event.

Our county fair is next weekend. We'll be throwing candy for our business. I think the state fair is in August but I never go to it. Iowa State Fair is better than Missouri's anyway!

Attachment DeletedFrom my earlier post, these hand made swings were at my Wyandotte Art Street Fair. I so wanted one, but had no where to hang it. It was sooooo comfortable. Had a little cozy for a cocktail. Perfect!
