I went to the store to get a backup thermometer and didn't find any. Whats up?
I have digital thermometers but they break, batteries go bad and sometimes I think they are not acurate. The speed is great which is why i have one. I still have a glass thermometer from 30 years ago, still works great, easy to sanitize, always acurate and if you don't shake it back down after the last use it "stores" the last reading. The only draw back is the 3 minutes one has to wait.

Ok. I'm sure this will go on the spreadsheet, but here you go.
They are a popular fetish item, so you can find them at sex toy stores and websites.

Maybe it is because I slept awfully last night or maybe it is because I haven't had enough caffeine yet-or maybe it is because I am helpless naive- but fetish? thermometers? how does that even work? Maybe I will google. But after I have had another cup of coffee.

I found one stomped into the mud the other day. It was in a metal case that looked like a pen. I though, hey - I found a pen. I pulled it open and it was an old glass thermometer. LOL
We haven't used those for years - and how this one survived, I have no idea. The case was pretty bent up - but the thermometer was in perfect shape. We only use digital on the cows now. Fast is good when you got something stuck in a cows butt. The faster the better. Especially when you need to temp a couple dozen or more.

Ohhh kkkkk might be one of the stranger things learned on this thread. I'm not about to google about the fetish, but am wondering...
Don't the glass ones contain mercury? Or was it replaced by something else? If not, maybe that's the reason they've gone away? Just musing here... LOL you can tell I haven't any facts.

They used to contain mercury. I remember playing with the fun little balls of mercury when I was little. Nowadays, the glass ones use colored alcohol.

So I googled. I learned some things. I will spend my day musing over people's experiences that lead to these types of fetishes. And thinking that I must be the most naive person on the planet. Or the most plain vanilla kind of girl. Or both.

That being said, I don't know anything about the thermometer fetish that myshelly mentioned either, however I am NOT going to google that one!

You can find them for science experiments, too as we used them in the Chemistry lab and the lab has to buy them somewhere or other as they fall off and break.

I remember when they started using alcohol in thermometers and supposidly they were not as accurate as the mercury ones. I have the mercury one. I use to have 3 but when my older ones moved they both wanted a "real" thermometer for when they got sick. The digitals where not reliable at 3 am, the mercury ones were.

Glass thermometers are no good for me. I could never ever shake them down. One time I shook it and it slipped out of my hand and broke.

all of the glass ones we used in our lab contained mercury, so we had to get rid of them all and use acrylic ones. so make sure your vintage ones, if they contain mercury, are kept in a safe place so they aren't broken!
