Oh, thanks for the reminder! I heard about this and wanted to check it out! Oh, ditto this!! (off to set the dvr) (ETA: snappinsami this weekend is a starz preview weekend and I am finally watching Outlander-I am on episode four, and should be done in time to watch the first of the new season. I guess I will be in a perpetual cycle of binge watching during the free weekends. LOL)

I read both novels and enjoyed them very much. Considering it's PBS/Masterpiece, I have high hopes for this series.

Yes, Outlander and Wolf Hall this weekend, then next weekend, the much anticipated return of GAME OF THRONES. Much escapist television for me, at a much needed time.

I think I'm going to tape the series because I want to read the book first. I don't want the series to reveal any spoilers to me like how it all ends for Anne Boleyn.

I'm looking forward to this new one though anyway; there can never be too much about the Tudors for me.

I'm looking forward to this too, but cannot watch tonight. Tudor England was my favorite class in grad school, and I think Hilary Mantel did a great job.

Did anyone watch? I thought it was extremely boring. I must be jaded from watching Outlander and GOTs though

I'm disappointed to hear that. I dvr'd it. I love that period of history. I will probably watch it tonight.

Yeah, we watched. Dh just said it's boring compared to The Tudors. And I did comment about the scene where Katherine of Aragon pleads her case, in comparison, I thought The Tudors did it better.
But it kept my interest enough to watch again next week.

cindyupnorth--I fell asleep during the show! I was thinking it must be really boring or I'm really tired! I cooked Easter dinner for 15 people, but I did most of it on Saturday so Sunday wouldn't be so chaotic. I had heard the book was boring, but I have it on my "to-be-read" list. I have read so much about Henry and Anne Boylen that maybe I am just not that interested anymore.

Did anyone watch? I thought it was extremely boring. I must be jaded from watching Outlander and GOTs though I started to watch-I don't know if it was the combination of a long day, too big of a lunch (aka: ate like a pig) or if it was boring, but I fell asleep within about 15 minutes of it starting. I generally like those kinds of shows, but I couldn't even keep my eyes open. Maybe it was the accents-like listening to someone read to you? that put me out like the proverbial light. Don't know.

I DVR'd it bc I do enjoy this time period and I love historical fiction.
I tried to read the book and couldn't. I thought the book was painfully boring and not well written.
I don't have very high hopes for this.

Thank you for sharing this. It looks really good and I'll definitely be watching it now.
ETA: Reading some of the reviews given on this thread, I may go ahead and skip it. I have too many other shows to watch anyway.

For some stupid reason, my DVR didn't record. I'll have to catch it later.

The book is brilliant, but the flow requires constant vigilance, as there are subtle but important shifts in perspective which are not conventionally handled.
I liked the audio version of the book -- I felt the reader did an excellent job of managing a very rich and complex tapestry of voices and perspectives and storylines.
Unfortunately, I completely forgot to record.

My FIL thought it was a brilliant series and was also a big fan of the books. I watched the first episode and found it pretty slow. I really couldn't be bothered to watch the rest. FIL has since watched it all again as he bought the series on DVD. According to FIL, it's full of political intrigue and terribly clever with all the backstabbing plots going on, but it was too much for me to follow. I watched the LEGO Movie last night and had to stop myself asking the kids to explain what was happening in some bits.

I read both books and I'm in the group that finds them very compelling and brilliant. They are not an easy read for sure. I was excitedly anticipating the show last night but came away a little disappointed. Even though I read the book, I was somewhat confused as I watched. The book really focuses on the very complex political layers of the event/history. I can't imagine that will be make "edge of your seat" viewing. For me, I think it will another case of the book was better than the TV adaptation. If you want a sexy and fast moving Tudor show, stick with HBO
