I haven't seen any threads about this case. DH is obsessed with it, so I've been hearing a lot of it every day. It's really an unbelievable story. This guy was a player on the New England patriots, and he could have had it made - SuperBowl champion, beautiful girlfriend, new baby girl, tons of money. But instead, he's on trial for his life - seeming to be a crazy sociopath who went around shooting people for basically no reason. He has (allegedly) killed three people that they know of. And he shot another guy in the face and left him for dead, but that guy survived and is suing him in civil court.
The defense rested today for the murder of his friend, Odin Loyd. He supposedly killed this guy, execution style, because he didn't like some guys that he was talking to at a bar they went to. Even if he gets acquitted, which seems unlikely given the mountain of evidence against him (but then again, think OJ) he faces trial for the two other murders. In that case, he supposedly pulled up next to a car and opened fire on these guys because they spilled beer on him in a bar.
Anyway, I assume closing arguments are tomorrow and then it goes to the jury. Just wondering if anyone else is watching this - it's a very interesting true crime story.

I've been keeping an eye on it. It's sad and stupid that he gave up sp much to be a thug. He had everything going for him.

It's pretty much the first news item on our local news every day. That and the marathon bombing trial which is also going to jury soon.

I haven't been following the case, but DH and a friend were talking about it. They seem to think long term steriod abuse is part of his spiral into other drugs, violence and throwing his life away.

Since he's a former UF Gator and DH is an FSU alum, DH 'enjoys' sneering about Hernandez's inability to live the good life instead of the thug life. (Yes, I realize that FSU has its own share of thug football players, but you know how fans get.) there really is no explanation for Hernandez's behavior except being a sociopath, whether steroid triggered or not. Either way, he's just scary.

No, I'm not because I am already convinced he is guilty and so the details pretty much bore me. Thanks for the details in your post, though. I didn't know a lot of that; it seems he's he's worse than I thought.

No, but we were in an elevator with Odin Loyd's mother and her boyfriend about 18 months ago and she was absolutely pathetic. I felt terrible for her. I spoke with her boyfriend in the hotel lobby and recommended some resources like Compassionate Friends. He said he didn't think she would ever get over it.

It sounds like he was a thug before he was a pro football player and just never got away from the thug friends and lifestyle. I haven't been paying super close attention to the trial but I thought the reason they killed Lloyd was because he was talking about the how Hernandez had killed the two other guys.
They did interrupt tv programming last week when Hernandez's finance was testifying because it was such a big side story that she was receiving immunity for her testimony - however she gave up nothing! The one thing that surprised me was that she said she learned about Lloyd's murder when Hernandez returned from being questioned by police and she asked Hernandez what they wanted (as if it were perfectly normal for the father of your children to be taken away by the police) and Hernandez told her Lloyd had been murdered. And she asked Hernandez if he did it.
I look at my DH and said, if there's one thing I know, I know I'd never have to ask if you killed someone!! I mean - the murdered guy was her sister's boyfriend!! And she has to ask her own boyfriend if he killed him?!?

I've been watching. He sits there so smug, I would like to smack him. I think it's too bad that the guy he shot in the face couldn't talk about it.

mirabelleswalker , I liked your post and just wanted to clarify that I liked that you were giving suggestions for resources and support. (I wasn't liking Odin's mother's devastation).

It is just infuriating, watching him laughing with his lawyer like he's at a baseball game or something. And I assume there is some complicated legal reason why the guy can't say "He shot me in the face" when that is the fact, but it seems so ridiculous.

It's been all over the papers here. We've heard so many stories that the jury did not (the other two murders and shootings he's accused of). It's all circumstantial evidence that's been presented at trial. I hope the Lloyds can get some sense of justice out of this.
Just an aside: I remember that a pea was from Hernandez's hometown and was close to his family. She was very upset by all of this. She remembered him as a good kid with a loving family.

Pahina, there's been stories going back to his UF days that Meyer swept a lot of crap under the rug. I was a fan, needless to say I definitely am NOT anymore. He's a disgusting thug AND a sociopath, and hopefully justice will be served in this case.

As best I can tell, I agree and that's another reason for my disgust at Meyer--not to mention his whole "I'm retiring from coaching to spend more time with my family" that lasted only until the Ohio State job came open. Situations like Hernandez's and Meyer's really highlight the mistaken priorities in college athletics.

What will it take for people to stop supporting this behavior? SMH it's not new in sports. The amount of money fans, even cities, pay for sports teams is mind boggling. i know there are athletes that do good, I wish the leagues did more to promote them. I don't care what skills you have if you're a thug, or probably a killer, like this guy. The leagues need to kick them out and be done.

I haven't been paying super close attention to the trial but I thought the reason they killed Lloyd was because he was talking about the how Hernandez had killed the two other guys. That was my understanding as well. As for the guy he shot in the eye, initially he refused to name his assailant, why now? I can't believe Aaron is only 25, he looks much older. I read that he's been with his girlfriend 7 years and they have a child, but I assume he hasn't married her to protect his money. So why is she still standing by her man? He's lost his career and probably emptied his bank account. He could have married her during the trial behind bars. eta I stand corrected this article says he should still have $16 million in the bank.
