When I was out doing some errands on Friday evening, I received two compliments on thrifted clothing items. An older woman in the check out line behind me told me she loved my jeans, and asked where I got them. When I told her at a yard sale, and for $1, she said she couldn't believe someone would sell them, that they looked brand new. She was admiring the beading on the back pockets and pointing it out to her dh. He said to her, 'I can't look at her bottom! I'm a married man. And besides, her husband is right there!' I had to laugh. A short while later the clerk in the liquor store admired my bright pink, low-heeled, pointy-toed shoes. It's always nice to get compliments on things I bought second hand. Anyhow, I digress, lol. These were some of my purchases from yesterday. Lately I have been picking up funny or cute hand painted wine glasses when I see them. This one was $2.75. I can never resist buying gloves. These leather and crocheted cotton ones were only $2.50. My oldest ds and his wife are expecting our first grandchild in the next two or three weeks. They do not know whether they are having a boy or a girl. I have been buying cute unisex hats for newborn and baby photo props. When I saw this one, I just had to buy it for under $1. If it turns out that this baby is a boy, I'll just have to store it for future use, lol. I love hand made items and couldn't pass up this small lap or baby quilt. I thought it would be a nice backdrop for baby photos. I adore the personalized tag on the back. My absolute favourite find of the day though, was a beautiful coppery brown floor length gown. I already had a dress to wear when dh and I renew our vows, and I do love it. But I never had a 'fancy' ball gown style dress, and have always wanted one. The gorgeous colour on this one caught my eye. It will not need alterations. I love the full crinoline at the bottom. I tried it on, and fell in love with it, but then I actually PUT IT BACK on the rack! I decided that I didn't 'need' it, that it might not be appropriate for a middle aged woman, etc. etc. I was heading to the register, could not stop thinking about it, and realized that whatever else I 'wanted' it and loved it. So back I went! I think it was a bargain at $30, but price was not the reason I bought it. I just love everything about it. When I tried it on for dh at home, the look in his eyes formed a lump in my throat. His voice got low and he simply said, 'It's beautiful.' I knew that this dress was 'the one'. Close up of the embroidery and beading. Thanks for looking.

Thank you, **GypsyGirl**! It has occured to me that I might not even have announced it on the board, lol. When I first found out, they weren't telling people yet, so I just kept it quiet at that time. Perhaps I did have a flash of intuition. At any rate, there's a 50/50 chance.

Found this at Goodwill yesterday for $2. It looks new. I have never had a red purse before and I don't wear red, but I LOVE IT! It is my new everyday purse.

gorgeous dress, heartcat! I love the handmade quilt, too. I am also a sucker for vintage scarves from the thrift store, although I've never scored a Hermes one. (yet-- I can keep hoping, lol!!) I love getting compliments on my thrift store finds, too-- today, I'm wearing a totally thrifted outfit that I've gotten plenty of compliments on previously: a navy Talbot's skirt (with a pattern of white embroidered bicycles- I love it) and a yellow & navy 3/4 sleeve faux cardigan/sweater top from Sag Harbor. Both of these were found at different thrift stores for less than $5 each. And one of my favorite finds, a pair of unworn Cole Haan (high-end dept store shoe brand) woven leather loafers that I scored for $10. I really like finding items that are somewhat quirky or unusual that fit my personal style so that I'm not wearing the same things that tons of other people would be wearing if they shopped at the same department store. (if you follow that really awkward sentence, lol!)

i love these threads! they make me feel validated for bringing crap home lol.
I made an accent wall at the end of our lower level hallway with my most recent online yardsale find, a bunch of weathered white fence boards from a local horse farm. they are about 1.5" thick and vary in length, and are made of really dense wood- charged the drill battery twice to make this wall because predrilling holes was hard, and putting in screws without predrilling was impossible. put furring strips at edges and at joints, so when/if we or future buyers take this down, it won't have ruined the wall. was going to put small trim at edges and top to hide the gaps, but all my facebook friends said leave it so now I might just do that. less work, lol.
I bought that chalkboard with dotted edge at menards a couple months ago, just been waiting for a quote to paint and a place to put it. I love that quote and thought it was fitting to have that snippet near the boys rooms, a sort of motto if they please.
DH isn't thrilled with it, but he had already given me permission to cover it in pallet wood, so to me that meant barnwood was also approved. but he vetoed the circular 2 level coffee table I also wanted to make, so now I have a bunch of boards left over.

Crinsoncat05 thank you, That outfit sounds lovely, and I always think blue and yellow go together so well. As for the 'awkward' sentence, it sounds like something I would say/write, lol, so I don't find it strange at all. And i know exactly what you mean. Paper tulip, that wall is GORGEOUS! You did an amazing job!

Three AirBake 14x16 cookie sheets for $5 each, they're in perfect condition and look barely used. I don't need cookie sheets but mine are old and nothing special, so I snagged them. Also got a white button-down fitted shirt with the tags still on it for $10 and a pair of my favorite Old Navy jeans for $6, not fabulous deals but good enough especially as I'm not sure I'll stay this size. Also got DD some tops and skirts for school, as she can only wear b&w or some combo thereof and it has to be dressy. These were all at the "nicer" thrift shop I like to visit. I was there a couple weeks ago as well and got a lot of craft items I have actual plans for, instead of hoarding them as I might have done in the past I've already used several of them, in fact!

I found a 2 shelf with wire basket bottom that I am now using to hold the jars of toothbrushes and razors.
My son bent the decorative swirls at the bottom outward to become hand towel holders. Then he painted it blank. He did a nice job. I know fluffy and not important but we have to look at it everyday.

Z*G, cookie sheets actually 'are' something I'm on the look out for. Mine have seen better days. I always love finding something new with tags, and a nice white shirt is so versatile. Sounds like you've got a good thrift store there.

Megmc, what a great idea to change it up a little and bend the swirls to become hooks.

heartcat, I love the lap quilt you found. It reminds me so much of a full sized quilt that my dh's grandmother gave us when we were married. I've been checking out a thrift store frequently while waiting for my daughter to do play practice. I bought a few plates and spoons. I thought it was funny spoons were 0.25 each or 10 for $1.00. I bought ten. The clothing selection is never great. I did manage to find a brand new looking Old Navy t-shirt for $3.00 and was quite surprised! I also found a white button dress shirt and cami for my daughter (she's a maid in the play). Okay, so this stuff was new, but it was old product . I bought many items at the SEI scrapbook outlet. Select paper pads were $4.00! At a scrapbook store, I scored 2 packs of mini alphabet stickers for $3.00 each; 8 sheets in each package! I made myself spend birthday money on something not practical! Wouldn't you know, I really want to scrap again! Now, I'm going to be on the look out for items that will work for heritage pages; costume jewelry, buttons, lace, doilies, etc... I was also very fortunate for my friend to give me hand me down clothes yesterday. My son goes through at least 2 outfits everyday. blue tulip I amazed at your creativity and that you have done so many awesome projects!

I found a pair of Gymboree toddler pants with embroidered weenie dogs on them. I bought them for 1 month old - her grandmother is one of my dearest friends - only dogs she has ever had are weenie dogs. So much fun to send her the picture of my score.

Coilstrand, I would have scooped up some cutlery at that price! For reasons unknown, mine always goes missing...spoons especially. I keep waiting for our teens to clean out their rooms and bring me back all of my utensils! Nice find on the scrapbooking stuff. And yard sales and thrift stores should be great sources for those things to use on heritage pages. I LOVE hand me downs! Can't beat 'free'! Janeinbama, I bet your friend will get a kick out of those, lol. It's always fun to find something that is just perfect like that, whether for yourself or someone else.

I have that same film reel box picked up at auction. I use it to store my pearl necklace costume jewelry collection. I have a bunch and each one curls up nicely in the reel box. Of course, all my costume jewelry was also collected from auction. One estate auction had so much high-end costume jewelry and I ended up with some really great stuff.

Scrappyoutlaw, I don't collect milk glass myself, but do see it on occasion at yard sales. So I know what you mean about seeing the same pieces again and again. Those are different! Nice find.

I buy my purses at thrift shops too because I wear them out so badly that I am not willing to buy a purse new at retail prices. I am willing to buy an under $5 purse and have no guilt when it's time to chuck it.

I actually went to a yard sale on Saturday that our mommy and me teacher puts on with her preschool families to raise money for charity. I was just going to go get some baked goods but I never even it over to the table because i bought a bunch of stuff. I found a never used Stanley quart thermos from the 70s, still in the box. I have been for a thermos to do you cocoa at Christmas time when we go see the Christmas lights. Since nothing has a price and it was all for charity I threw the following in my box, inflatable duck tub (perfect for our duck matching game for my son's birthday party this coming Saturday) a Lamaze crinkly book, a Thomas telling time book, an Elmo guitar and remote and a fish clip that my son wanted. Then she gave me the price prefacing that the thanks was never used... $15. I was happy since I figured the thanks would be at least $10. Then I asked about a puppet theater since we are making puppets at the party and she said $10 which sounded good to me. Since I had two kids with me she had a dad pack up the theater and told him to throw in all the puppets, so I had a great deal there too! Can't wait to use the theater and the duck tub at the party this weekend... I'll have to wait a while until I need the thermos Funny thing is 2 parents working sale told me they were eying the thermos and then later a 3rd said "who bought the thermos?" While I was still shopping but the thermos was in a box for me at the exit. I guess I got the best item of the day
