I live in a small subdivision. I do not own a dog. Everyone else has more than one dog. They all run loose, we live in a rural area. No real leash laws etc.
Last week one day when I came home there were five dogs in my yard. I wouldn't mind if they didn't use the bathroom EVERYWHERE!!!!! One of them, a beagle, pees on my porch all the time. Another poops on my blacktop driveway daily. One has been peeing on my garage door periodically.
Just now my DD came to tell me there was dead bird on the porch. I looked at it then finished dishes before I went out to move it. In the time I was inside a dog peed on my porch and porch swing!
I'm done with this. What can I do?

Shoot the dogs...? Joking, honest! I'm almost not jokingly considering it. This has went on for a while. I complained to one neighbor and he chained the beagle for one day. Wow, a whole day?

I don't want a fence and couldn't afford to fence an acre and a half if I did.

It doesn't seem fair that the OP should have to go through the trouble and cost of fencing her yard to keep other people's dogs off her property. With that said, I don't know how to tell you to solve this problem any other way. If it were one dog, a talk with the owner might help, but 5? Ugh. I wish I had some advice. I feel your pain--this would drive me nuts.

Are you sure there's no leash law in your area? I would check with the county. Even in a rural area, it seems odd that the dogs could just run loose (perhaps because I've never lived in a rural area?). I would have a pretty low tolerance for that frankly.

If you can catch one of the beasts, you could turn it into the Humane Society. The price to pick up a wandering pooch can get expensive.
If it really does bother you, you have to say something to all of the owners.
One time a plumber broke the porcelain ( is that what they are made of) of a bathtub in the house my father was building. It was expensive to replace. My dad (God rest his hysterical soul) got pissed and pooped on a newspaper and hid it in the bad of the plumber's truck where he wouldn't find it for a long time. He said it made him feel much better.

You must have the "cool" house that all the dogs want hang out at....lol
No, I'm sorry about your situation. I really don't have any solutions for you. It just sounds funny that you came home and 5 dogs where there. Please don't to anything to to the dogs. It's the owner's fault for not training/containing them, not the dogs.
ETA: just read the link above about keeping dogs off the lawn. May you can do that?

I bookmarked this to try. I will need to get a garden sprayer and mix up a huge batch.

I swear they find the dumbest animals and drag them home, then never pay attention to them. It is the owners fault 100%.

There's 8 houses in subdivision. I don't have any dogs. One house is empty. I know there's at least 12 dogs in the neighborhood.

Ha, I like the idea of driving them to humane society one hour away... But that's not easy.
i sprinkle coarse black pepper and spray a mix of oil and jalepeno to keep Bobcats and neighborhood cats out of my garden. (Spray on plants- not on critters). Supposedly the pepper irritates the cats paws. Is there something like that that repels dogs?

Toss hot dogs in the empty houses yard and maybe the dogs will head to that house and poop there. Kidding...(kinda lol)
Other than going door to door and leaving a friendly note or talking to these people I don't see any other way to prevent this. Even that may not work because we all know how some owners are.
You may need to think about saving for a fence. I agree you shouldn't have to do this bit if the owners don't want to do their part and you have no Humane Society idk what the other options would be.
Good luck!

I'd move. It sounds horrific to be honest. If you have 6/7 neighbors who seem to think roaming dogs is normal, and you have 12 dogs using your yard, drive way and porch! as a bathroom...... I would get the hell out tbh.

i'm having a hard time picturing a "subdivision" so far out in the boonies that there's no laws, no animal control, just dogs run wild... i'm terrified of strange dogs and honestly i'd shoot them, i don't have the time or patience to sit scared shitless in my car every time i drive up

Temporarily put up some of that orange or black plastic snow fencing around your yard until they get used to doing their business elsewhere? And spray the crap out if it with that cayenne pepper and vinegar mixture!
Or, sit out on your porch with your hose and a bunch of pennies in a pop can. Wait for the dogs to come around, shake the can loudly to get their attention and spray the heck out of them with the hose. They don't like the noise and would be repelled by the water.
Along more devious lines, maybe you could buy some of that deer pee scent that hunters use to mask human smells and spray some of that on the dogs that you see in your yard with a squirt gun or spray bottle. I don't think it would hurt the dog, but it sure would annoy the owners when their nasty skunky smelling dog comes home! Might make them think twice about letting their dogs run loose and unsupervised.
I hope you can figure out something that works! We have dogs and wouldn't ever consider letting them run loose in the neighborhood.

The land used to be a family farm that was subdivided into lots. The whole town is very country/redneck. There's a field of cows right next to my house. None of the dogs are mean, I'm not scared of them.
