I find I am using my Peerless watercolors and colored pencils the most for my coloring books. I posted about my books today and where to get blank color charts if you are interested. Here is my post and my new color chart. I love it! Really helps me choose the colors I want to use without scribbling test colors all of the time. Happy coloring! triplethescraps.blogspot.com/2015/05/tuesdays-tip-coloring-and-blank-color.html

What a brilliant idea! It's so easy to check a colour at a glance with a chart like that. The blog you linked also gives a link to Denise Howard who did the charts.....and there just happens to be a chart for some of the coloured pencils I have on Denise's blog! Thank you!

So sorry Patter, I was so intent on looking at and reading about the colouring books you featured that I completely missed the fact until a few minutes ago that it is your blog that you linked ! I love the look of the Jenean Morrison book - and it is available on Amazon UK! Thank you again!

Y'all are welcome! Enjoy! And I linked my blog instead of directly to the chart in case anyone wanted to see the coloring books I am using too since I am not using the Secret Gardens book. I thought people might like to see other options. Have fun!

Thanks for these charts. I use a lot of different coloring media in my art journals and sketching. These are very helpful.
Hope all goes well with your daughter. (I have 3 dd's, although not triplets they are within 4 years of each other. One is the same age as yours, so as I have been following your blog over time it has been interesting to see them all grow up.)
I have always enjoyed your work and your organizational ideas.

I've always been in awe of your organizational skills and I've used several of your ideas in the past. Thanks so much for another stellar idea Patter! Just like always I didn't realize how much I needed it until you showed it to me Debbie in MD.

This is awesome! I just got my backordered Secret Gardens book and pencils. Now I feel like I should have bought the big pack (150) instead of the 72.

Agh, thank you. Your words are very sweet, and our prayers are that this will be her last back surgery! It's been a rough, rough road. And Debbie in MD, glad you can use it. You all are so welcome! I thought it was a really neat chart!! I am actually going to cut mine in half then have it laminated in a heavy laminate so it won't bend in my bag or get messed up on the road.

I have the Derwent Watercolor Pencil set of 72 - I'm hoping the colors are the same as what is listed for their Colorsoft set. If not, I'll just use correction tape on it and write in the names for my set. Very handy - thanks for sharing!

Rhondito, the correction tape is a great idea if it's not quite the same. Have fun, and you are welcome!

sweet!! now I just *need* to get some better (less hard/waxy, easier to use) colored pencils!! thanks for the links, Patter!! I'm glad you and your daughter are getting some good 'coloring therapy' in before her surgery.
eta: I hadn't read the entire thread-- the correction tape idea is perfect!

people have posted so many different brand ideas for pencils, I think I need to go to one of the bona-fide *art* stores in the Valley to try out some of my various options before I buy; good-quality ones aren't exactly cheap! (which is the whole reason the cheap ones ARE cheap; I've found that out, lol!)

I think I might be even more confused. So many swear by Prismacolor but Lachri on youtube says the quality control has gone way down. What say the peas?

I really want to invest in some decent quality pencils that will allow me to layer and blend without breaking my wrists like the cheap Crayola's I've been using. Help a girl out, please. It's all so confusing.

Yes, I actually was not impressed with the Prismacolor pencils and sold them. I love my Lyra Polycolor pencils. I also have the Faber-Castell Polychromos on the way. They are oil-based also.

I like the Faber Castell but they are a little more than I wanted to spend. I have a set of Prismacolor from before they changed the manufacturing and a set I just got. The difference is not much at all. I have realized that a good pencil sharpener is really key.

I found that by going to this site www.dickblick.com and shopping that they tend to have better descriptions than other online shops, which is really helping me to compare brands. Right now I only have a 24 piece set of Prismacolor pencils, and a 12 color set of watercolor pencils. I'm shopping for another brand (better) and the descriptions are very helpful. I'm also leaning towards a brand that has open stock (pencils available individually) so that if I want a color not in the set I buy, or need to replace one I can get it. Doesn't mean I have to buy here, but I've found their prices are pretty good. Debbie in MD.

I have some Tombow markers coming from them - individuals in colors that I wanted to supplement my sets. Right now the Tombows dual end markers are my favorite coloring tools - I almost exclusively use the brush end.

Elaine-I've been eyeing those Towbow markers for a long while now. I can't draw AT ALL, so I would be using them to color in rubber stamps, or if it's at all possible the coloring books everyone is talking about. Are you using them for the coloring books? Can they be used with these-I know that brush end is kind of thick-I got to test them out at a local art store, and the drawings in the "Enchanted Forest" book and the "Garden" book are very detailed. Maybe you can use the other end of the Towbow markers?
I'm trying to decide between these markers or a new pencil set. TIA.
Debbie in MD.

I bit the bullet and purchased the FC Polychromos pencils. Can't wait for them to arrive. They are my mother's day gift to myself!

Back in the days when I was a CTMH consultant - LOL! So, they are excellent for that. I've been using them for the coloring books. The brush tip can draw a VERY fine line with a light hand - finer than the fine tip side of the pen, in fact. So, they really do work well and I love the blender pens that do a good job blending. Maybe later I'll try to post a pic of one of the pages I've colored that is very intricate, so you can see how fine the lines can be.
