where do you go once you are dressed up?
The last time for me was a wedding and that was about 5 years ago. I have no life.

I attend plays/musicals three to four times a year and usually wear something very nice to them, esp. Opening night.

I get dressed up for weddings, funerals, and my school's graduation, but none of those are real dressy around here. It just means I am in a dress or skirt and I don't have tennis shoes on

Never! Weddings and funerals -- but the last funeral I went to was very casual and I was 6-7 months pregnant so I didn't get very dressed up. Last time I got really dressed up was for a wedding 4 years ago.

Usually only for weddings, and I haven't been to one of those in a few years.

It's been some time since I've gotten dolled up. The last time may have been on a cruise a few years ago. I really don't miss it.

Does 'Dressing Up' mean like a floor length gown? Or just wearing a dress or long skirt? Having your hair done by a salon, or just home styled hair?

Last night. I went to a Ball. You went to a ball? Wow . I have never been to a ball. I would need to borrow Cinderella's Fairy Godmother because I would have nothing to wear. I don't even own a pair of stockings never mind the rest of the get up.

Totally dolled up? My DS's wedding in '06. I do not like to wear dresses, skirts are ok but not my favorite. As someone said, I have no life. Hahaha

To me it means wearing a dress/outift and shoes I wouldn't normally wear around the house or on regular daily activities. I have only had my hair done once in my life (high school prom) and my nails done once (before my scrapbooking photo shoot week, during which I made stuff and they took pictures of my hands).

We go on an annual cruise for my husbands work...six nights in a row we both dress up for dinner.
At home, rarely.

Maybe once a quarter. Sometimes we dress up for dinner out or a ceremony of some sort.

I mean when you wear something nice that is only worn for special occasions. In the olden days we would refer to this type of outfit as 'after five'. You know like when you just go all out to look 'good'. Hair, nails, make-up, outfit, shoes, and even worrying that your stockings are the right shade.

Every Saturday for date night. Not necessarily dressed to the nines, but a dress or skirt or even nice jeans with cute boots or heels or maybe just nice sandals. Jewelry, makeup. I like to look nice for dh on our date nights.

I can't remember the last time and I'm ok if I never have to again. It stresses me out to get it all together and it's never comfortable.

Before we retired it was fairly often, there were quite a few functions we had to attend with dress anywhere from just 'dressy' to black tie. Now that we are both retired it's not so much, pretty much only on cruises or if the social club we belong to has a formal dance, or for weddings or funerals. 2 weddings coming up this year (nephew and our youngest DD), so that's 2 dresses I have to find.

Ok, thanks. So I never go to things where 'After Five' clothes are needed, but I do have several outfits that would work. I guess I could say the 'Sunday Best' clothes are what I have in abundance. Things where hose are the norm. Dresses, long skirts, things with beading. I grew up poor, my clothing was made from printed chicken feed sacks and after we left San Francisco at age 4 I never had a store bought dress until I was 12. My childhood left me with a strong fear of not having clothes and my 6'2" height only added to those fears. I now have closets full of clothes, more than any one person needs.

I go to several charity events that are formal - usually 2-3 a year. I'd say beside those, 3-4 times a year to go to the ballet/orchestra/play. Once in a while, I'll get dressed up for a date night with my husband, but usually we go pretty informal.

Well, sometimes I wear a dress or skirt to work. But even for an evening out, Houston is so casual ... there are very few restaurants or events that would require serious dressing up. I attended church with DH at Easter and wore a sundress and cardigan. That's about as dressed up as I get! I haven't worn a formal gown since I was a bridesmaid in SIL's wedding ... 18 years ago.

Last summer for my dd's high school grad and then two weeks later for my nephews wedding. I will again in two weeks for my ds's high school grad.
After that event, I have no idea when I will get gussied up, again. Probably my kids' weddings. But that will be years and years from now. (fingers crossed HA!)
And since Ashley posted a photo, I thought I would too!

Weddings and funerals ( and its been a whole lot more funerals than weddings the last few years). I did get pretty dressed up for DS's graduation last month, but I borrowed the dress I wore from SIL. I probably only dress up a couple of times a year. I am usually in shorts and a t-shirt on a day to day basis in the summer. Get togethers, nicer shorts and a cute top. Dinner or movies out, capris tank top and a cardigan. Jeans and sweaters in the winter for just about anything. Hell, I even have trouser jeans which are usually my staple for winter funerals. Or yoga pants. I love yoga pants. Anyway, it's kinda sad. I LOVE fashion and style, but I can never make it actually work in my life. Unless it involves jeans or shorts.

I wear long skirts with a shirt and a light weight/short sleeve sweater, a jacket or pull over 3 or 4 days a week to work and to church on Sunday. Things like this or this.Other days I don't wear a skirt, I do wear nice pants and a nice, business-casual type shirt. I still feel casual but "dressed up". It's more than I wear around the house. I do my hair, make up and wear jewelry (cute costume jewelry, mostly) and do my hair and make up every single day for work and again for church on Sunday. Saturday varies, depending on what we have going on. Yesterday was a shorts and t-shirt, make up free day, all day long. My poor husband, I leave for work dressed all cute and I walk in the door (I get home after him) and I'm out of my dressy clothes and into a pair of shorts and a t-shirt within 30 minutes. But as far as "really dressed up", I don't know! I did dress up once in our cruise and I have worn that dress a few more times at home. It's a flowy maxi dress that is sleeveless with a really cute neckline; however I always wear it with a jacket because I despise my arms.

It's been a while. Growing up I was very active in the local Filipino cultural scene and we had balls and dinner/dances every 4 months or so. Since college and meeting/marrying DH, we've attended about a dozen weddings and funerals in 17 years, and maybe once or twice a year we'll get 'all dressed up' for date night or an anniversary or birthday dinner.
I enjoy getting all dressed up, and I really miss going to balls/dances. We're at an age where we're not really invited to any more weddings because everyone is already married or divorced at this point lol.

Almost never. Basically only when someone gets married or dies, and even then I try to get away with wearing pants. I hate wearing dresses or skirts. Even when I was little and had to wear a uniform to school, I would suffer through the last few weeks of school wearing navy blue corduroy pants when it was probably 85 degrees or worse inside the non-air conditioned school buildings because I refused to wear the ugly uniform jumpers which was the only other option for girls. The last time I put on a fancy dress was on formal night when we went on our cruise in Feb. 2013. Between the Spanx, the nylons, the dress, the makeup and the hair spray, I thought I was going to die from being so uncomfortable! I couldn't wait for dinner to be over so I could get out of all that junk! Before that, I couldn't tell you when the last time was. I didn't even wear a dress to my own mom's funeral. (And I hope to God I don't wear one to mine!)
