Agreed and there is SO MUCH PINK in the SB and planner kits. They just can't help themselves can they? SaveSaveI don't even think they try to please anyone but themselves anymore.

There have been very few designs I’ve been drawn too. One thing I definitely don’t need is more flower stamps.

and off topic - this is why SC was so stupid to shut down their message boards. Since they did so I have forgotten/not known a) that I can order add ons with the SBTM kit b) missed out on an SC class cos the peppermint stamp which was really cute was sold out by the time I found out about the class, and I am not signing up for a class sans stamp and they never responded to a qn someone else asked on IG about whether they would restock - not that I mind cos honestly most SC classes are pants (aka not worth the $) and c) last call......if I wasn't coming to these boards I wouldn't know a peep about Inked..... Great for my wallet. Not so good for them, cos you know they do a fab job at social media (not) and where is sleepingbooty. My theory is that she gave us up for New Years. Come back!

Pink and flowers shocked-nope not at all! And I predict pink and flowers for many months to come. It is SC favorite color and flowers are their go to theme.

and where is sleepingbooty . My theory is that she gave us up for New Years. Come back! If she'd made a New Year's resolution to give up 2Peas Refugees, she broke it really quickly by posting on Jan. 1! Add me to the list of those who hope she's on a nice long vacation with her SO.

Another Pea here hoping to hear from sleepingbooty soon. It's been way to long without a funny gif/meme. Now for the SC February kit - pink *puke* pink *puke* - no thank you. I'd be thrilled to have something reflecting the new Pantone color of the year. Anything but more PINK. The stamp set - boring - they've had better floral stamps that weren't part of the stamp sub. It's so plain. I've been thinking about the kits being sold for $2.99 each. If that is roughly their cost for a kit, then they are making a small fortune on each kit. I can't imagine them selling a kit below their cost, so do you think $3 roughly is their cost to produce a kit? If SC paid taxes on these old kits for 3 years in a row (or ever how long), then I can understand selling them at or below cost just so they don't pay taxes on them again. And, even if they do still have a few sitting around, because they sold them for so cheaply, I guess you wouldn't be taxed at the higher rate, but the $2.99 rate....but I don't know for sure. I'm just typing out loud trying to figure out just how they can sell the kits so cheaply and why they would want to do that, knowing they will lose subscribers over this. I guess someone finally got through to SC that their "trendy" stuff isn't so trendy after a few years siting on a shelf and collecting dust. It costs more to keep the stuff on the shelf than what it's worth. I have noticed some little tricks they have to keep the costs down. I wouldn’t be surprised if each kit is around the $1 mark to produce. The journaling cards will be super cheap to print. Aside from the horrible quality, they are easy to reproduce and the more they print the cheaper it is, which explains why there is always tons of remaining inventory. They would only have to be printing around 500 sets for the price to be pennies, and I reckon they are printing more than that. Notice how their chipboard sheets are always of the same variety but different printed designs? The speech bubble, circles and then the three banners? You can see them in this months sneaks and this shape has cropped up at least twice in other kits. It’s because their manufacturer already has the tooling made to produce a sheet of chipboard shapes in that arrangement. All studio calico have to do is print new designs on top of the template. Tooling is expensive but printing is not. I’ve seen them do the same with puffy stickers. Same configuration, different printed designs.

It costs more to keep the stuff on the shelf than what it's worth. They get to deduct all of their expenses, including cost of goods sold, before calculating their tax. So if each kit cost them $3 to make, if they sell it for $25 they would have $22 profit. But then they get to deduct other costs like employee wages, warehouse space, website hosting etc., before they calculate their taxable income. Selling additional kits for a loss would lower their taxable income but selling at cost wouldn’t lower it at all—unless their expenses exceeded their income, but I doubt that.

Nope - their cost is not $3; it's not even $5 - they are taking losses when they mark down but there is a cost to holding inventory so they sell to move it. The kits they mark down that much are older kits (amazing that they have so much inventory around). I'm wondering if they wouldn't be better off to just lower the initial price to begin with?!

My love stinks of rotten eggs and not poop. Where is my sticker? Or how about a skunk, at least, it’s cute. I am surprised we have not seen skunk as the scrapbooking animal of the year yet. Skunk over some random tropical bird any time for me. Back to SC, have you guys seen the sneaks of February kits? I like the colors so if the code works for a free kit, I might buy a Documenter. Did anyone get a free SB kit code with your mega sales purchases? Were we supposed to get a code for a free kit?

The kits they mark down that much are older kits (amazing that they have so much inventory around). I'm wondering if they wouldn't be better off to just lower the initial price to begin with?! Plus there is a tax savings to sell at a loss, which would make sense why you would have a sale right at the end of the year (assuming they pay tax on a calendar basis). For example if their cost is $5/kit and they sell one kit full price for $25 and another kit for $1 at a loss then they had $10 in cost of goods sold and $26 in gross sales, for a profit of $16 before expenses. If they hadn't sold the second kit at a loss and only sold their first kit they would've had $5 in cost of goods sold and $25 in gross sales, for a profit of $20 before expenses. Plus they would still be storing that old kit, but you don't actually get to deduct the cost of producing the kits until you sell them (or otherwise get rid of them).
If I were them and wanting to get rid of old inventory for tax savings instead of having mega super duper mega sale which cheapens their brand and discourages people from subscribing, why not send random inventory boxes/kits to current subbers as a bonus--make it your annual gift? Then you get to write off the entire cost of goods sold, you've reduced your excess inventory, and you've instantly increased the value of being a subber as opposed to cheapening your brand and losing subbers...
But then, studio calico has never done the smart business move.

They posted more peeks of the February kit and beside MORE PINK and flowers they have brought back the wonky cat face that was a die cut a few kits ago. That cat is homely no matter how many ways you color it. And does no one there own a dog for goodness sake? Plus the are using “yo” instead of you again on one of the stamps. They clearly have decided to go back to what they know and pretend that February is spring and summer for all and that pink cures the blues. I’m letting my sub go this month. Nothing appeals to me. And with no message board there is really no reason for me to visit the site. Fools.

[/quote] I’ve often wondered why they didn’t send random old stock as surprise gifts to subbers, or offer free product with a certain amount purchased. I agree, seems like a better way to satisfy loyal customers and preserve brand value.

Thank you for your insight, lasteve1 . It's great you could follow my stream of consciousness. I sometimes feel as though they get different accounting advice every year which is why they have hung on to stuff for so long and then all of a sudden, it's $1.99-$2.99 - new person giving advice on what to do. They probably do. I can't imagine being an accountant and watching some of the decisions that get made by the boss there.

I am sad they don't have codes going right now...I hope the most recent kits end up in a sale soon. Still upset (especially now that IG peeps are posting their hauls of some of my favorite things) that I missed out on the good part of the sale...I'm sure I could have still spent some money after that, but seeing those stamps sold out while scrolling just made me too upset to want to look, hahahaha.
