Don’t hate on the hydrate! I think many Americans end up drinking coffee, tea, and soda instead of water throughout the day. Or flavored sparkling water. Which ALL hydrate. They *are* water-based. The sugar in soda is bad for you but you're still getting hydration from the actual beverage. Drives me nuts. Even the water in your food counts towards your daily hydration: yogurt, tomatoes, watermelon, etc. This obsession with glasses of "just water" on top of all other beverages consumed is very American and makes no scientific sense. Only alcohol doesn't count because it actually is diuretic and leads to dehydration.
Caffeine is a mild diuretic as well. TBH, I actually notice a significant difference when I drink water vs drinking other beverages (minus soda, because I don't drink that). However, I don't drink a lot of anything at all because I don't really get thirsty. Maybe two cups of something per day. And I do know that fruit, soup, etc. can still provide some kind of hydration as well. Something about plain water, though, actually prevents/negates a lot of my dehydration symptoms, when other beverages do not. Even so, I don't drink much water.

Well their fabulous new box system resulted in me spending only $1.99 above my stamp subscription and being on the site for less than 5 minutes. Go SC! Were you able to add the five dollar off code? I see nowhere to add a code to the box. Why send a $5 off for reveal if it doesn't ship with my kit??? Whats the $5 offer code?

It was a card included with last month's kit for $5 off at next reveal. I assume it only works for subscribers. Probably sent it in anticipation of getting rid of rewards discounts and the bundling changes

They are even less likely to get rid of shop stuff now that you can't bundle. I'm sad that they aren't offering pieces of the kits as they did in the past, although it did mean I was less likely to pick up the kit when it was on sale as I already had the pieces I wanted. Sad about the losing the digital discount. That decision doesn't make sense to me at all. I'm not going to buy those at full price.
I think we should start taking bets how long before they close shop. I give them 6 to 9 months.

I am actually disappointed in the full reveal of Liz's stamp sets. They're mostly rehashed stuff of themes she did for her Paislee Press digital offer (it's cheaper to buy straight from her shop on the Lilypad in that case) and aimed at "mothers of." And taking up so much valuable space for the word " hydrate" in the Health one? Seriously? What is it with Americans and worrying about not getting enough water? Getting NSBR thread flashbacks... Ha, if you visited me, you'd probably be sick without hydrating. It is the thing that most often takes down tourists. I haven't ever made a page about it yet. But you don't see a hiker on trail very often without water.

It's at the very bottom of the "box" it has a link that says "add promo code" and if you click on it, it will turn into a box that lets you type the code in. I assume you need to add something to your box to use it.

That's the quickest SC has fixed anything!

So, they got rid of the gallery. They got rid of the subscriber discount. Try got rid of bundling. They got rid of selling doubles or extras of kit components, yet they REALLY value their subscribers and have lots of ways they are going to show it. Gee, haven’t we heard that song before?
And the items you can add to your box are stamps that ship for free all the time? Genius marketing April, genius.

Ugh. So I actually wanted to sub to the stamp subscription because the last 6 months or so have been really nice (I wanted last month but it was wait-listed). There were promo codes shared on instagram a few days ago to start a new sub for $5 so I wanted to use it today, now that the stamp sub is reactivated and was planning on subbing for 12 months. But, the code doesn't work. So I started a chat and asked about it and they said it expired yesterday. Um... it was shared 5 days ago and it didn't say it would expire at the end of the month and all of the subs were wait listed anyways (except maybe documenter but I already sub to that). They refused to honor it, saying they aren't responsible for the "influencer" not sharing the terms. Actually they are, but I'm not suing them over $15. And technically it's not a contract because I didn't have to repost or follow or anything so they don't have to honor it, it's just a false advertising claim.
But even so, they should've just honored it. Basically I was going to commit to a 12 month sub which is $240, I just wanted a code that would reduce that to $225. Plus they know they're going to put out a code later this month and then if I sub they'll have to ship me two packages instead of one, which means they are actually costing themselves money...
Okay, done ranting. I hate the new system, but I really like the products. Why don't other companies make products of the same quality/style!? GRR.

The BuJo community are obsessed with hydration too, and it drives me nuts. I get that some people are out of tune with their thirst or too busy to drink regularly (or not allowed/able to use the bathroom often during their workday) but I have no idea how I would color in the little glasses of water all day with any accuracy, and I really don't need them on my planner. Actually it saves me a lot of money on planner stickers because I refuse to waste money on hydration trackers! But like what to eat, what and when to drink can take over a discussion very quickly...

I wonder if diet soda would be classified like alcohol then. Diet soda results in more frequent bathroom trips than regular because the sweeteners are (or at least behave like) diuretics.

I can't wait for the TN fad to be over. Me too! But I just found myself being tempted to try "the dark side" for a travel journal I'm going to put together for my next adventure and have been trying to work out how to design some pages. My little snow-bound brain was struggling this afternoon, trying to work out booklet design and pages for double page spreads using digital brushes and stuff - I intend to print out the notebook to take with me and scribble into along the way. One of the reasons the TN was calling (after so long of "knowing" it wasn't for me) is that our trip starts in Tokyo and I know I will be able to get my hands on all the TN goodies... Even so, the format will kill me - I mean, how on earth will I cope with landscapes in a tall, narrow format? Maybe I'll create a landscape TN.... One thing is sure, the paper quality has to be better than the Midori standard, which bleeds through so easily. Perhaps it's as well that ! have a few weeks to think about this...

Maybe I'll create a landscape TN.... Tracey Holdyk did a landscape page in hers and I liked it SO MUCH BETTER than the tall pages. I seriously considered it as a better format, if I was going to do a TN album. (ETA I'm also going to Japan soon and considering whether I want to get TN stuff and stationery there) http://instagr.am/p/BseimRNjm3-

I think this will make it easier to quit a sub. I get AE kits on an one off but have kept my SC subscription active (for years!) because the subscriber discount could usually be used on albums and PPs and I knew they would ship for free with bundling, so it seemed like a good trade off. There isn’t much there anymore to keep people locked in.

These people obsessed with showing off their fluid intake-like what, you’re better than me because you pee is clearer? It’s weird.

Tracey Holdyk did a landscape page in hers and I liked it SO MUCH BETTER than the tall pages. I love it!! Oh my word...that could indeed be the path to the dark side ;-) We are lucky ducks having that dilemma of where/whether to buy a TN, aren't we? I've always rejected them in the past - I well recall standing in front of a huge display in Tokyu Hands and being sorely tempted, before my sensible voice chirped up and said "don't be daft...spend your money on everything else in the shop instead!" That might well happen again, but who knows? Best be prepared, don't you agree? When is your trip? We are there in late April...

I’ve liked the past few months’ Documenter kits but this month is awful. Might be time to walk away from SC for good. I actually really like this month! Well, I like the cards, puffy word stickers, circle stickers and monthly title card. The stamp is obnoxious. I'm pretty sure you cannot turn that heart into a pie chart with those pieces, except for in likely one configuration only. Plus, the heart is solid so what are you supposed to stamp colors on top of each other? Usually if you have stacking stamps like that one portion would be outline and the others would be fill. It would actually be nice (assuming you want to stick with the pie chart concept which I'm not convinced is the best use of a stamp in the first place) if it was an outline of a circle and then various sized solid wedges that could fit in there. But with a circle you could put the wedges in endless combos. With a heart you cannot. Also the things to include on the "pie chart" seem very limited. Also, the sticker sheets are ugly. They colors clash, the fonts seem dated, and the phrases aren't things I would use. I'm also not a fan of this alpha sticker because it's too big to really use in PL and there aren't enough of each letter.

I'm seriously thinking about what kind of souvenirs to get - we're spending soooo much money to get there I really shouldn't buy a lot. And I lived there for a few years so I have plenty of gorgeous Japanese things, some of which are useful, most are just "stuff" to store. So I thought I might get one category of things - pins or stickers or paper ephemera or something like that. I know there are so many things that are going to tempt me. (I spent 3 hours in Tokyu Hands the first time I went in). And all that delicious food... I haven't been back to Japan since I left in '02 so I'm pretty excited. It's going to be brilliant and strange! We're in Tokyo and then Kyoto late March, for a week total (so, no time at all, really). Tokyo Disneyland, Universal Harry Potter. We might be there for hanami, if we're lucky, but we will definitely be there for the Osaka spring sumo basho - buying tickets tomorrow!!

It's all over, or at least it should be, if companies follow the law. As I just posted on another thread it's already been a thing for many states and companies like Amazon and Etsy have been doing it for some time. Many scrap companies have been flouting the law though. (WA state was one of the earlier ones to require it).

I just got an email from them saying they were going to start charging sales tax for shipment to certain states. Is that going to be an all online retail thing, or just them? I didn’t get this email. There was a supreme court case that came out last summer (2018) that said states can force companies to collect sales tax even if they aren’t physically present in the state (like having an office there). So many states are changing their laws to require companies to do this. Amazon was was already collecting in all states I believe, but now smaller online retailers will have to as well. I love when tax tax questions come up on here 😊 #taxnerd

We're in Tokyo and then Kyoto late March Then perhaps you'll kindly leave something on the shelves for me, please (No, of course, they'll have time to restock!! ) I'm thinking we might be a bit late for the blossom (though might be lucky further north, I hope) Maybe you'll catch it just right? It must have been an interesting place to live. I can't imagine that - we've visited several times and travelled around, but I imagine it wasn't an easy place to manage everyday living? We have five days in Tokyo, then jump on a ship to sail northwards to three more ports in Japan, to Petropavlovsk and over to the Aleutian Islands and down to Vancouver. We've got JR passes and want to maximise our time in Japan - though we're basing ourselves in Tokyo, we'll be out and about as much as we can. Love it!

Studio Calico has lost their mind. I used to spend over $100 a month there and now, because I sub to the stamp sub, I spend $19.99. Not sure how long that will last now.
So much for the digital rewards too....how nice of them to just take that away.
I used to pick up a few extras every month but now that's not even available.
Way to isolate your sales and reduce your revenue significantly.
I've never seen anyone destroy a company as bad as April. It went from a cash cow to almost nothing now. I don't mean just the 12x12 scrapbooking side. Just look at their shop - it's full of FAILURES. A smarter thing to have done if they were losing a lot of money on the extra shipping costs would have been to have an additional $5 shipping charge if you exceeded a certain weight for your bundled items. I still would have bought additional things with that process. As it is, I don't see me shopping there anymore unless I have a discount to offset the shipping costs. It astounding to me that April cannot see the deep fall the company has taken since it was started and its heyday when you had to be on the computer at 11:55 to make sure you got what you wanted at noon. The FOMO was intense! And she's managed to erode it to a feeling of "whatever". Brilliant business acumen at work there. I'll be spending my fun money at Citrus Twist and FJ now.

Tokyo is such an amazing place, and there's so much to see and do within a bullet train day trip too. I'm traveling with hubby and his sister's family - 4 adults + a 10yo. Three of us lived in Kobe for 1-4 years (I was there the longest, but hubby lived in Japan as a kiddo and speaks the language the best). We were all on the JET programme, so the hardest parts of living overseas were arranged for us - housing, job, taxes, etc, but it was challenging. I didn't speak any Japanese when I arrived. It was pretty crazy - first time I'd lived away from home too. I loved it, until the work and always being an outsider got old. We're going to be so busy on this trip, it's not enough time, but I'm hoping to be able to wander the streets a little bit, soak up some atmosphere... I'm trying to figure out which camera to bring (the best I have, right?) and how to balance carrying it around all the time with being in the moment. I'm going to be taking a ridiculous number of photos, especially since whenever I see him I'm my nephew's personal paparazzo (auntie-razzo?) but nephew + Japan? oh man... I'm going to bee obnoxious!
