Just finished We Were Liars a couple of days ago. It was a fast, each read. I liked it enough, but I originally guessed the big twist at the beginning. Then I changed my mind because it was too obvious. I had created quite the elaborate plot in my head of how the last part would go. And then, surprise, y1st reaction was right. :/ So that was a disappointment. I do wish the author had spent more time delving into the power plays and other stuff involved with old families with old money. And outsiders. Those glimpses were fascinating.

I'm reading old Ludlum books (trying to decide if I should keep or give away). So far I've read The Cassandra Compact and The Rhinemann Exchange. The Sigma Protocol is next....

I just finished A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman. It was okay, but I thought it could have been half as long as it was. It was one of the few times I have read a book and thought the movie would be better than the book. It's on my list, but if it's only okay it might stay on the list for a bit longer...

I am almost to the end of Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. I am really enjoying reading it, but it is really heartbreaking to think about people who have major disabilities and can't do the things that I take for granted every single day. I'm glad there is a sequel coming out next month because I will be sure to pick it right up. It will be interesting to see what they do with the movie that is coming out in April of next year.
Melissa I really enjoyed Me Before you. Thanks for the heads up - I had no idea that there was a sequel coming out. I'll definitely be picking it up. It's called After You.

I finished Finding Jake by Bryan Reardon over the weekend. I gave it 4.5/5 stars and you can read my full review here: clickRight before that, I read The Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll while we were on vacay last week. I gave it 4/5 stars on Goodreads (probably more like a 3.7/5 if you wanna get specific ) I picked something totally out of the blue that I saw on the e-library shelf today when it was time to start a new book. I could use a fun little Summer romance. It's called The Summer After You & Me by Jennifer Salvato Doktorski. I only made it three chapters before I fell into a 2 hour nap. ha ha! I think I'll enjoy it though. It is young adult and has a kind of light, breezy feel to it. I guess I could use that after my last two reads!

I had a big reading week - finished 4 books!
A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay. This was a disturbing book. Fourteen year old Marjorie starts displaying signs of schizophrenia and her father is convinced that she is possessed by the devil and needs an exorcism. 3/5
Girl at War by Sara Novic. Ana grew up during the civil war in Yugoslavia (early 90s). This story flashes back and forth between the time she was growing up and the present day where she lives in the US. 3/5
Girl Underwater by Claire Kells. Nineteen year old Avery, her swim teammate Colin, and three small children are stranded in the Rockies after a plane crash. This will probably go down as the worst book I actually finished this year. The plot is full of holes, the writing is cheesy, the characters one-dimensional. I am sorry I wasted my time on this one. 1/5
Who Let the Dog Out? by David Rosenfelt. The latest in the Andy Carpenter series. I like this series, but some of the charm is wearing off. The books usually have a little funny mixed with the mystery, but the funny lines seemed to be the same ones he used in previous books. 3.5/5

Went to the beach for a few days so I got a little reading done. 1- "I'll Give You the Sun" and loved it. 2-"The Girl with All The Gifts" - probably 4 stars.
3-Finally started the Sookie Stackhouse series as well - Dead before Dawn. I liked it enough to want to read the rest of them and go back and start watching True Blood - but I am not in love with the TV show after 2 episodes. The accents are awful and the characters are just not how I pictured them. They all feel a little dumbed down in the show.
I've got 2 Kristin Hannah books left in my library stack to return, but haven't started them yet.

Hi Reader Peas! I'm struggling to begin a new novel this week. I've picked up and put down several. I'm slowly working my way through Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. That's all I've got. Happy Reading! People always love that book. I still have it and have started it several times but just can't get into it. Good to hear I'm not the only one.

I'm reading The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton right now. I'm only a couple of chapters in and I can't tell yet whether I like it or not. It is about an arranged marriage in 1686 Amsterdam. The wife is gifted a cabinet size replica of their home. She hires a miniaturist to make the furnishings for the doll house. So far it is eh.
I have Natchez Burning by Greg Iles waiting for me. It is 862 pages so need to find time to do big chunks of reading.
Loved China Dolls by Lisa See. WWII era in San Francisco. I mentioned that book on another thread.

I finished Crooked Little Lies yesterday. I had most of the plot figured out halfway through and thought it was just okay.
I have Defending Jacob next...I barely started it yesterday.

I am reading All The Light We Cannot See. It's very good but it's taking me forever as I'm doing some prep-reading for a nutrition class I'm starting in Sept too.
Just downloaded Finding Jake and The Nightengale.

I read Wedding Night by Sophia Kinsella as a fluff and it was meh- I gave it 3 stars. Then I read Once We Were Brothers which I most likely I heard about here and I loved this one. I hate to say I enjoy WW2 books because of course it was a horrible time but I have such respect for those who were imprisoned.

I'm reading the Chrestomanci series by Dianna Wynne Jones. She wrote it before Harry Potter and it's been said it's just as good. I'm finding it not as engaging and a bit more on the really young YA side. It's holding my interest for now.
I am also reading a ton of HP fanfiction. There are some amazing writers in the fan fiction sites who have written some really great post war HP stories. I am enjoying them a lot.

I'm on book 3 of the Wayward Pines trilogy by Blake Crouch. I haven't seen the tv series and someone had said it didn't do the books justice, so read them first. The books are AMAZING! My DH is not a big reader and he was up until 1am because he couldn't put the first book Pines down. I tore through the 2nd in two days and just handed it to him about 5 minutes ago. He's already started it. Lol
We are going to let my older DD read them and the binge watch the series together.
I think I found a new favorite author.
