DS's middle school does "supper". It is free for anyone but the idea is for kids who stay after for sports/activities and then can get a light meal before they go home. It was created for kids who may not get dinner but it is open to anyone, even if you just want a snack.

If the elementary school qualifies for Title 1, breakfast is free for all students. From what I've been told, it's not very nutritious. I'll find out in October when my son is in school all day. The upper grades (6-12) have breakfast, but there's a fee that's less than lunch. It's free or reduced for those that qualify. I can't remember the exact cost.

This isn't unique at all. It's all based on federal funds on how many free and reduced lunches the school has. Soon they will start free meals on weekends if the percentage of free lunches is high enough in your school. Also, free meals all summer.Free lunch is offered to the entire community at 1 elementary school in my area for kids 2-17 and $3.50 for adults. No one is allowed to take left overs home. So much food is wasted.
