I really, really want to love my new cast iron skillets, but I just...can't. I bought them at Penney's and they were pre-seasoned, so I followed the directions and used them. Everything stuck to them- hard! Friends said to season in an oven, did that and made grilled cheese and again, cheese stuck everywhere. What am I doing wrong? So many people love them and I feel like I have $60 worth of useless iron sitting in my cabinet. Fry bacon in them - often. It takes time to build up a really good seasoning. You just have to be patient and keep at it. Once you do, you will be rewarded with the best skillets ever! Seasoning new cast iron skilletsYep. Fry bacon in it. To clean it, I just take some kosher salt and a paper towel and scrub. Then it goes back on the burner with some avocado oils and I rub it in and when it smokes I turn it off. I tried coconut oil but it just didn't season as well as the avocado oil.

I don't know how to link pics yet. Best: Banana Bunker-I know that it looks totally ridiculous but no matter where in my lunchbox or bag that I put my banana it would wind up squishy or mushed. www.bananabunker.com/Worst: Enlightened chocolate ice cream. I wanted a healthier treat because I had a wicked chocolate craving. These taste like chocolate flavored paste. :-( www.momtrends.com/2013/12/good-for-you-ice-cream/

The banana bunker is a great idea. Although, I'd be afraid someone might see if after the banana had already been consumed and not know what it is.........

I tried it again tonight and I guess I need to get used to it. It got hot very fast and stayed hot, even with the stove temp turned down. I really like the salt rub idea to clean it. I am just using vegetable oil now and didn't put it back on the stove until it smoked. I will try that next time. Can I use this skillet to bake cakes and sweet things, or should it just be used for savory? Thanks for all the tips everyone.

Love the Sally Hansen miracle nails "gel" polish and top coat! 15 days on my toes and still looks great! That stuff is great! I bought Complete Salon Manicure polish today and the brush is awesome-covers most of my nails in one swipe. Don't know how good the polish actually is, yet. But it should stay on with the gel coat!

Tarte Lights Camera Lashes mascara. Gives my thin, short, sparse lashes volume, separation and length. This is the size I have and it's lasted ages: mascaraMicrofiber cloths from Dollar Tree. I use them damp for removing my makeup. They do stain after a while, but my eyes prefer not having chemicals in them (I just use water, and the microfiber cloths remove everything, even the heaviest makeup and waterproof mascara). Ecover lime zest dishwashing liquid. Not sure exactly why I like it so much, but I do. Nice suds. Pleasant smell. Eco friendly. Just wish I could buy one bottle from Amazon instead of six. EcoverAnother vote for Oreo thins. I can't eat chocolate, so I'm eating the vanilla ones. They are delicious. I also found LEMON cream Oreos on Amazon. Also delicious. OreosWater Wipes. The absolute best wipes for babies bums. 99.9% water. Will not irritate even the most sensitive skin. My granddaughter's tushie is so sensitive, and these are the only wipes I'll buy. But they are also the wipes I buy for me, and the only wipes that don't give me an infection. I use them on my face too, and for makeup removal (along with the microfiber cloths). I plan on buying these even when my granddaughter is no longer in diapers. Wet WipesCatch a clog thingys. So much better than the plastic ones, and so much better than trying to get the hair out of the drain. Can't recommend these highly enough: Thingys

Oh I forgot!!! These chocolate dipped cones from the supermarket. Two boxes. My dog doesn't eat chocolate ever, my dad didn't know about them and DS lives on the Mainland. Hmm. But I was hungry!

I forgot one:
Not your Father's Root Beer
OMG - where have you been all my life?? They just recently started selling this locally. It is sooo good. Smooth, creamy, sweet, just like a good root beer - but with a nice little kick!

We have had Palm Breeze in Canada for a good 5 years at least now. It's called Palm Bay here but the can looks the exact same. I'm a big fan of the key lime cherry flavour. If you can find dragonfruit watermelon, try it!! It's a seasonal flavour for this summer.
And I'm impatiently waiting for my Plum Paper Planner to arrive.

Tania - the cans do look exactly the same, but the Canadian version, Palm Bay, says it's vodka infused. The American Palm Breeze says it's a malt beverage - flavored beer. I'm confused because I hate beer and there isn't any beer flavor at all. I am intrigued by all the flavors you have though!

a new thing I bought and love so far is fingerpaints gel polish. On a whim I bought them from Sally beauty supply (they had them bogo free). I applied it five days ago and it looks awesome..still shiny no chips etc. I have not tried to take it off yet so not sure how easy that will be but I LOVE it so far. For comparison I tried sensational brand in the past and it was not as shiny and did not look this good at five days.
Not happy with my samsung galaxy 6. The battery is TERRIBLE and reception worse then my last phone. bummer!

Love: My new Mephisto sandals. Finally some comfort shoes with cute bling! They also have an adjustable velcro strap which is necessary with my high instep. Hate: The White Mountain ice cream freezer DH bought for July 4th. That was the noisiest thing I've ever heard, especially considering what he paid for it. Definitely not worth almost $300 for his trip down memory lane. The ice cream was good, but not worth having to deal with the noise and lack of auto cut off. I returned it this week and was so happy to be rid of it. The $50 Cuisinart model with the tubs that you freeze work extremely well. Dh and I bought one a few years ago and have loved it. I bought dh some ice cream cookbooks as well, and he makes the best almond ice cream from marzipan that is amazing. Thankfully it has to be cooked and then chilled overnight or we'd be making this ice cream constantly. It's also great for ices and ice milk, etc. The worst part is finding freezer space for the tub. I have that Cuisinart ice cream maker and love it! I made some basic vanilla last night with a teaspooon of Fry's cocoa powder and some diced strawberries. Yumm!!

Can't recommend these highly enough: ThingysOkay I have question about these.... With two of us with really long hair we have hair in drain issues. Its an old house and in both of the bathrooms hair in drains is an issue. I even bought a thing to snake out the hair but it doesn't really help. My problem with the one I am using now it that the shower doesn't drain, during the shower because of the hair trapped in it. Do you have that problem with the Thingys?

You can pull the hair out of them, but the nice thing is that you can also just toss them when they get icky. This has way more holes in it that the plastic ones do, in the same way that a metal strainer has more holes than a plastic colander. Make sense?

You have to time your purchase just right to find it as soon as a shipment comes in because that stuff just flies off the shelves.

Palm Breeze sparkling alcoholic spritz in a can. It is so freakin' good! I really like the pineapple mandarin orange flavor. There is also a ruby red citrus and my dd just found an 18 pack of mixed flavors including a new key lime cherry at Woodman's for an amazing price. If you are looking for something light and refreshing (with alcohol), you have to try this!Yeah, those are sooo good! I have only had the ruby red citrus but those go down easy!

I love the Zoya Naked Manicure when I'm not in the mood for color on my nails. I recently found AG Deflect on clearance at Ulta just because the packaging changed. It is certainly worth full price and I will buy it again. I have thick hair and it cuts my drying time considerably. It also makes my hair easier to flat iron. I received a sample of Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash. I did not care for it. It left my face feeling like it had a waxy coating. I'll stick with my Olay foaming face wash for sensitive skin.

Miniature Kit Kats. I don't really care for regular Kit Kats but something about the mini ones in a bag... they're obviously laced with crack. As are the mini peanut butter cups in a bag. Regular PB cups, fine. The ones that are singles in a 6-8 pack, fine. The little ones that come in pastel colors at Easter? HATE THEM. Those unwrapped minis, though, are my FAVORITE. LOVE: This towel that I bought at Amazon. I wrap my hair in a towel after a shower because it cuts back on dry time, but most bath towels are huge these days. I even take a towel with me when I travel because 20x40 is the right size for my head, so as to not give me a headache. But my regular hair towels are in need of replacement and they DO NOT MAKE "regular" towels in that size anymore. Took a chance with that microfiber towel because it's the right size and I love it. I bought a second one. I am going to get my sister one for Christmas. HATE: Urban Decay Perversion mascara. Oh, yeah, makes my lashes nice and dark. But will NOT. COME. OFF. my skin. I used like five makeup remover sheets and I still looked like I had a black eye. I hated it so much that I didn't even suck it up and use my travel size for the entirety of vacation-- I went to Sephora and bought a new clinique mascara instead. Bought the towels for my girls and me based upon your recommendation and we love em! I'll never use a full-sized towel again. Thanks!

A big hit around my house is those thin oreos!! They come in several flavors and are so good! Holy crap, they are delicious! I tried the mint. I didn't know there were other flavors available. I'm gonna pretend I didn't read your post so that I'm not tempted to run and buy them all.

My Gtech Air Ram cordless vacuum cleaner. Came on Monday. It is amazing! I bought the original 2 years who and loved it and recently bought the K9 which is even better. I keep one up and one down now as I am a little immobile at the moment. I have a 'henry' but he rarely gets used these days because of these amazing little gadgets.

I love that Banana bunker... I won't eat bananas unless they have no spots whatsoever. A bruised banana is unacceptable. This sports bottle: embrava sports bottleIt's great and it looks pretty cool. It doesn't get smelly either. I bought the smaller size originally but I just got the 32 oz size.
