So I go to this fundraiser crop every year, and I like to donate stuff to the silent auction. It's coming up in a few weeks so I need to get on board with whatever I decide to donate, and I like it to be something that will fetch nice bids without necessarily spending a huge amount of money on it (creativity helps a lot here!).
I was thinking last night it might be fun to put together a "Scrapper's Survival Kit" and then started trying to come up with stuff to put in it. Here's the obvious that immediately came to mind for me:
Good chocolate Bottle of wine Bandaids Black pen Post It Notes Adhesive and refill Scotch tape Ear plugs Breath mints Pack of gum Advil / Tylenol Kind bar or similar Energy drink
Maybe put all of this inside one of those square 31 bags that holds 12x12 stuff? What else could go in here that would be useful or funny for something like this to help drive the bids up?

I don't drink alcohol so I would not be interested in that but many would I imagine. A 31 bag is a great idea and that alone will drive up bids. The stuff you named so far is probably less than $20 total depending what you spend on the chocolate and wine, so my suggestion is to add a neck pillow or one of those back or seat cushions, a spill proof travel mug type thing, some tea/coffee packs, skip the energy drink, add some really good nuts and other nice snacks, adhesive and refill is good but people use different things. I recently saw one of those clip on cup holders that also had a trash bag holder attached to it which was kind of cool. A cardstock pack of black and white cardstock is something most everyone can use. Scotch tape not really seeing that. Ear plugs - great idea.

Is a t-shirt with a funny saying on it in the budget? It's been so long since I've been to a retreat I'm drawing a blank!
I think the bag is a great idea. The chocolate, adhesive and pen are my favorites on the list you made, if that helps.

Thanks for the ideas! Keep them coming! I have a few weeks to pull this together if I'm going to do it. myboysnme I was thinking of really GOOD chocolate (around here, a small box of hand dipped truffles is about $16), a nice bottle of wine ($15? I don't drink either but the crops I go to have a LOT of people that do), so right there with the 31 bag ($35) is over $60. I like the travel mug idea, but maybe a Tervis tumbler with something cute and scrappy related in vinyl on the side would be more unique. I might be able to do the cup holder thing if my distributor carries it. I like the idea of the nuts and other snacks but there will be a ton of food there so it might not have the same impact. I should add that the people in this particular group are not shy about spending money on the auction items since all of the proceeds go to charity. Last year this crop raised over $22K in ONE DAY. Yeah. A pack of 6 gourmet cupcakes in the silent auction has gone for $30 before. So I'd like to do something fun and nice that will get decent bids on it without breaking my own bank account, if you KWIM. lonr the t-shirt idea is something that would be tough since people are all over the place in size, otherwise that would be a fun suggestion. I'm not sure what else could be substituted that could be personalized with some kind of scrappy message other than a tumbler. Maybe a small tabletop wastebasket? I don't know. What about a custom scrapbook themed iron-on that they could put on their own shirt? Or would that be dumb and people wouldn't know what that was?

Yes. A silly quote on the tumbler would be cute!

Maybe print and frame a scrappy saying. Something like "keep calm and scrap". You could get a frame at Michael's for not a ton of money. If you have a decent printer you could print it on some good quality cardstock at home. I like the Tervis tumbler. You could leave the wine out if you wanted to bring the price down, but it might be a big draw with that group. Sometimes little things can add up quickly. You might be better off with fewer items but nicer things. I would definitely do a pen, the chocolate, and something to drink. A nice candle might be something good to add. Hope this was helpful. Sounds like a fun crop.

cannmom I like the idea of a framed print. Or I could do one of those painted wood signs (the chunky box ones that are popular) and either stencil it on or use vinyl. I think there's a higher perceived value on something they can't just go to the store and buy. It IS a fun crop!

I like the suggestions so far, especially the neck or back pillow. I haven't seen anyone mention adding some "Un-do" (not sure of the spelling) or other adhesive remover. I have one I bought years ago that looks like a small green eraser (chubby crayon-shaped), and it gets borrowed a lot at crops - there's always someone who's had an adhesive mishap.

How about decorating a party goods tiara to say "Queen of the Crop". That way, you don't need a t-shirt size and anybody can rock a tiara, right?

instead of scotch tape, how about some washi tape (to hold dies when cutting, etc.)

instead of scotch tape, how about some washi tape (to hold dies when cutting, etc.) That's a good idea too. The only reason why I put scotch tape on my original list is because it's not something I typically have in my regular tool kit, and there have been SO many times I wished I had a piece of regular tape for something when a Post It note won't hold or stay on, or something gets torn. I can't think of any great examples at the moment, but it has happened more times than I'd like to admit! (Note to self, put a roll of tape in the tool kit!)
