My baby turned 2 today! It actually has made me kind of melancholy, but I look at him and know how incredibly lucky I am to have not one, but two happy, healthy, growing, creative, thriving little boys to call my own. There are not enough smilies in the world!

Today I finally felt good enough to get out of the house and so I called my stylist and got a much needed and long overdue haircut. My housekeeper comes tomorrow. I spent some time on the phone with 2 of my little sisters. I figured out that with my Amazon Prime I can actually save a bunch of money ordering a lot of my gluten free stuff from them and delivered to my door. No more driving 1/2 hr or more to Whole Foods to find out they are out of stock. Yipee!!

I saw the sun set last night while holding hands with my husband on our evening walk. I unofficially "met" my soon to be SIL over the phone this week. We'll officially meet in a few more weeks when I fly back home! Yay! Anyway, I already love her. Double yay!! I started making healthier living choices for my family and I this past February. To date I've shed 36 pounds! My doctor is thrilled with me. I've gone from being a Lurker to a Full Member here on our 2PeasRefugees Board.

I hope you're better soon papersilly. How awesome to hear such great news from everyone. My good news: the driver side window on one of our cars wouldn't go up and down without a struggle and a lot of noise. Instead of hundreds of dollars to get it taken care of at the shop, my husband watched several YouTube videos, dismantled the inside of the door, bought the repair kit at the auto parts store and finished fixing it tonight for $90. It amazes me what he can do. We celebrated with ice cream. How good that he was able to do that! We had something similar happen at the beginning of the week - but our window bust the motor as well and was stuck in the down position. Doing it ourselves wasn't a possibility this time and it cost an arm and a leg at the main dealers!! Good news is that it's now fixed......and just in time for the heavy rainstorms we had on Wednesday!

My son is completely broken out of his shell this summer vacation and has made great friends with some other kids in my apartment complex. He's going in to 3rd grade and has always been on the shy side and me and his teachers were always concerned. He seems to have done a complete turn around because he has not displayed any sort of shyness at all. All this week he has been outside practically the entire day. Its really great to see.
Also I have been on a scrapbooking roll and have been creating pages left and right so that is good.
Also Tuesday was my last day working my current job. I'm still working for the same company but I will start a new position on Sunday.
For so many years I've felt I had a dark cloud hanging over my head but with all the changes going on in my life right now, I feel like its lifting and things are moving in a positive direction.

Not earth shaking...but still very good! I had to renew my driver's license yesterday. I haven't been to the DMV in probably 20 years but I was aware of the horror stories about long and painful wait times. I walked in and I was the only person there! In less than 10 mins I had my new license and as a bonus...my picture came out pretty cute.

Well, this is going to be a bit long, so I apologize in advance. Little bit of back story: I moved about 4 hours away from home for a job back in April of this year. I found a place to rent, and it's tiny, but fully furnished. I basically just moved my essentials, and sold everything else in a garage sale and donated the rest. My cat, Nala, went with my son. She's very important to my story!
So anyways, I traveled back home this past weekend to put what ever I still had in storage. I went from a 3 bedroom home to a 6x10 storage unit. My son told me he didn't want Nala anymore and could I take her. So I got hold of my landlady, and she said I could have a cat. So off to Walmart to buy kitty gear. I bought a travel crate, and I even found a harness and leash for her. She's an indoors cat, but I know she does not travel well. So I thought I could pull over on the way home, and let her get out of the crate for a bit.
So I pulled over a this rest area almost 2 hours from my new home. It was near a trail that led to a meadow which I thought would be perfect for Nala to walk around in. I must not have tightened the harness enough. I put her on the ground, and it took her all of 5 seconds to squirm her way out of the harness, and take off into the forest there. I ran after her, but was wearing shorts and sandals, and the woods had heavy undergrowth and lot of downed trees. Then it started raining hard, and I stepped in a hole and almost twisted my ankle. I knew I was not equipped to try to stay and find her. So with a heavy heart, I made the decision to leave her and prayed that she'd find shelter and be safe.
Drove home and could not sleep. I made up some posters and flyers, posted on Facebook. The next day, I packed essentials in the car and went to work. I asked my boss for a half day personal leave which he gave me. So 11:30 came along and away I went. Changed into jeans, sneakers, sprayed insect repellant all over, and found the rest area I left her at. I trekked all over that forest. Fell many times. Hurt my arm from a branch and still have the bruises. Everyone who sees my arm gasps because it looks so bad. Called her name and nothing. I had thought I heard her little mews but decided it was either a bird or kids at a nearby campsite.
I forgot about water. It was hot, I had on heavy clothing plus a jacket to protect my arms from the branches. I had just walked all over these woods for over an hour and I was pretty dehydrated. So, once again I felt bad I had to leave. I drove to the nearest town, hung up some flyers, and bought water, used the restroom, then headed back to the parking area. Before there, there is a campsite. I drove into it, met the couple who were there, gave them flyers, and they said they'd keep an eye out.
I was going to go to the campsite past the parking area and leave flyers, but something made me go back into the woods. So I tacked up a couple of laminated posters to the trees there, went back into the woods, walked around calling her name. Then I just found a log to sit on and sat there and just kept calling her name. After about 20 minutes, I thought I heard her again. The sound was very faint, but she has a distinctive little meow. Like a kitten, but she is almost 12 years old. I kept calling and after awhile it was obvious it was her. It was like Marco...Polo. I yell her name, and she'd answer me with her little mew. I still didn't see her through the dense brush.
Then I did. She's all black, and when I saw her winding her way through the trees towards me, I was bawling. I wanted to run to her and grab hold of her, but didn't want to spook her and send her running away again. So although it was extremely hard for me, I sat there and waited for her to come to me. She took her sweet time. But eventually, she was rubbing her little head against my fingers. I picked her up and hugged her hard! I could barely see through my tears. But we were reunited! And that is the very good thing that happened this week!

I got to talk to my mom on my b-day! About 11 weeks ago she was moved from her apartment to a full care facility - and the doctors thought that the end was very near. There is no phone in her room. Well, she's still not doing great, but she's hanging in there and she is doing a bit better than she was 11 weeks ago! My sister got mom in a wheelchair and wheeled her back to her old apartment so that she could use the phone to call me.
Best b-day present ever! She lives overseas, so not just being able to go see her whenever I want is difficult, at best.

Just being the only person here is unheard of. Less than 10 minutes, almost a miracle. Pretty cute picture, you hit the trifeccta.

Actually - I had kind of a down week - feeling low due to a few issues and not quite able to get myself up. So - this thread is nice. Makes me look at what *IS* good. And reading the replies helps.
I have two: 1) one of our grandsons spent the day here and said he had a good time. I always thought of us as kind of boring. Stay at home, quiet. So to hear that he had a good time was surprising and nice. 2) I got to have lunch with my aunt. We didn't get to spend a lot of time together when I was growing up, so reconnecting with her has been wonderful. She is smart, funny, independent and loving. I am so glad we are in each other's lives again.

OP, thank you so much for starting such an uplifting thread! There's been so much stress and loss lately, it's good to focus on the good things, no matter how small they may seem.
My so graduated from high school this past June, and he was accepted into a summer program at the University he applied for, so he is now completing his second week of college, and living away from home. He's had some interesting situations arise already with his suite-mates, and it's been such a blessing that he's been calling and talking to us about it, and then hearing how maturely he handled what could have been a pretty serious situation. Two of the guys even THANKED HIM for the wake up call and having their back. I couldn't be prouder of that guy.

SO and I did some landscaping over the weekend and on Monday, his only weeknight off, we got to sit outside as it was "cold" here in the Chicago area, drink some beers and enjoy the fruits (flowers) of our labor. Also, the tile in my entryway is GONE so I can prep the floor for the new flooring to go down. YAY!

My brother just stopped in for a 2 hour visit for lunch. Why is this worthy of posting here? He lives in Colorado (I'm in Maryland). He's a long-distance hauler/truck driver. He was in the area between loads so he had a few hours to spare. I loved it

My daughter's friend is visiting from Wisconsin. They became bffs when they were 3 and we moved into the same neighborhood at the same time. The family went thru a nasty divorce when the daughter was in 5th grade and she moved away. I love that they still get to hang out once a year (they are 15) and pick up like no time has passed.

Owenka - I missed your story earlier. I just read it. Amazing. Just amazing. I am so happy you found your kitty. I can imagine the panic and sadness of her running away. It's so hard to believe that you found her.
That is a VERY GOOD thing that happened!

We are in the process of building a new house and selling the one we currently own. We went through the whole process of getting the house ready and putting it on the market and we had five offers in the first three days and we sold it that week. We have gotten through the inspection and this week the appraisal so now all we have to do is get to the closing table which will be the first week in august.
Our new house won't be finished until the end of September so there's that two month period of trying to figure out where we are going to move in the interim. We have three dogs and we were finding it impossible to find an apartment in the area zoned for my daughter's high school that would accept more than two dogs. We decided we would board one of our dogs for two months and that would cost us about $1000. It was really causing me a lot of stress trying to figure out what to do.
Long story (sorry) short... I convinced my husband to ask our buyers if they would consider letting us lease back the house from them for the two months (he had himself convinced that they wouldn't want to do that so he refused to ask) and after a week of waiting for their answer we found out that they are going to let us lease back until the end of September! I am so happy. It saves us a lot of money, our dogs can stay with us and we won't have to move twice. I was also stressing about our dogs needing to be taken out several times a day in an apartment complex. They are used to going out the doggie doors whenever they want in our house so it would have been really difficult for them to get used to being taken out only a few times a day. I am so relieved we don't have to worry about this now. This process couldn't be going better!

Hmmmm....... Something good that happened this week?
well, when I was hospitalised for 3 days at the beginning of the week with a partial bowel obstruction, it was good that it wasn't a complete obstruction, and I didn't need surgery.
and then when I slipped on the icy pavement 2 days later and broke my wrist, it was good that I didn't break both wrists.
