I'm sure I filed a request for an extension/ release on line. I filed my jury paper in the bill drawer and dh must have thrown it a way on accident. Now I cannot find my juror # so I can't check things on line. If I call and request a stay, will I be in trouble? I start the school year Tuesday which is why I cannot go. You need to call there...or go online and see if you did indeed file. It's much harder now to "get out of jury duty" than ever before. Where I teach, you don't lose your day's pay or get docked a sick day when you have to be there. It's paid leave.

Our county will serve a bench warranty if you skip. I am in Georgia. Really? I'm in Fulton and I didn't show one time because my mom got very seriously ill and I totally forgot. No warrant but I did send in a note from the ICU unit to the clerk after about a week.

Some counties are hard core and will issue bench warrants if you don't report as required. I was paid my salary at work for my jury duty and it did not count against my PTO. I did have to sign over my jury check to my company since I was paid while out.

I think they should send bench warrants. I get that it is a pain in the ass. It is for everyone, or almost everyone.
I feel bad for those piced to sit on juries that last forever. We had one recently that lasted over 60 court days. That would SUCK big time.
Most of the time though, you are there for a day or a week.

I got summoned for jury duty for January 5. I sent a note back and said that we were going on a cruise until the 4th. I anticipated that we would be home but wasn't sure if the weather would cooperate (we got stuck in Atlanta for 3 days the year before). I wasn't expecting to get out of it but wanted to let them know the situation. They did let me off and I got called again within a couple of months.

I'm sure it is. However, I really can't take $15 in lieu of a days pay. I also have the first day of school for the year which is not convenient at all. Tell that to the judge and you may well find yourself at their wrath! Not a good enough reason to shirk jury duty !

I got called for jury duty for August of this year. Since I thought my Dd would still be out of town during that time, I was excited about having something to do. I signed in via the web and was all ready to show up on the appointed day.
The week before I was to go, my Granny was told that her chemo was being discontinued and that hospice should be called in. Midweek I went online and found the number for the Jury Division in the county courthouse listing and followed the instructions to get to a human. I explained what was going on and asked for a deferment. The lady was very gracious and gave me a series of dates to choose from. I chose a date 2 months after my first date. The lady told me call back if I had any other problems. She's said that they called plenty of jurors, so rescheduling wasn't a problem.
She also told me that, as long as you let them know at least a week before your call date, they will almost always give you an alternate date to serve. She said less than a week before service requests were not as likely to be granted off the cuff, especially if it was something that you knew was going to happen on a specific date.
In Ga, they issue bench warrants for anyone who doesn't show up or who doesn't get excused. A bench warrant is o e where they won't actively send someone after you, but if you get stopped for something else, they take you in.
OP, give them a call. Even if your paperwork or the website doesn't have a number listed for you to call you should be able to find a Jury Division listing on the courthouse website. Make sure you make a note of who you speak with and when, just in case there's a glitch and your I for doesn't get entered
