Happy day!!! Our adoption anniversary is Nov. 30. We call it Family Day. Nov. 30, 2003, was the happiest day of my life -- our DD was placed into my arms in Changsha, China (and has never left!).  It's a special day for adoptive families -- we celebrate Family Day every year. DH and I take the day off work, and, depending on our plans, DD might take the day off school. We go to a movie or spend time together in some other way, and we go out to dinner (usually for Chinese food -- DD's favorite!). I love the photo you posted -- there are ups and downs in any family, but the happy times will return. You love both your boys, that is clear, and eventually, that will be clear to your oldest boy, too. Christine -- your story about Emily made me cry. Your mom was RIGHT ON. A wonderful story.  |

 All because of these two! Twelve years ago these two took over my life in a way I never imagined. A foster placement that was supposed to be just a few months ended up being forever. I remember putting them to bed the first night and praying that God would protect them and change their life in postitive ways. A Knights Tale (movie with Heath Ledger) came out that year and I remember telling Matt he could "change his stars". I prayed that prayer for weeks and then the day we got the phone call that they weren't going to be returned to their birthmom I knew their stars were forever changed. Exactly one year to the day they moved in, their adoption was finalized and they were legally mine. It hasn't been an easy journey with these two. We have overcame loss, educational challanges, more loss, mental illness, divorce, remarriage, job changes, school changes....you name it, the 3 of us have been through it. But we did it together and we will keep doing it. I got to hug my youngest and tell him how much I love him. The oldest....still not home and right now I don't even know where he is (he won't return my FB messages). I worry so much about him and pray that he will come around soon. 12 years later and their Gotcha Day still makes me cry. What a sweet picture. I think of your older DS whenever I see your avatar. Motherhood is such a crazy ride, isn't it? Congratulations on the family you've built and good thoughts for the future. |

I'm sorry that your son is being a schmuck but I'm glad the youngest one is home for you at least. That must be so hard to have no communication with the oldest. Even after all you've been through, I'm glad they got to come be a part of your family.

I'd be worried also....hoping maybe he's embarrassed to admit he was wrong and that's why you have not heard from him... I reach out to him every week. I send him a message on FB since he doens't have a phone (GF threw it in the sprinklers during an arguement two months ago and he hasn't gotten a new one). Contacting the GF doesn't help...she is the cause of all the problems right now and is just filling his head with crazy things. Last time I spoke to him he said "GF said I don't need to tell you everything I do"....yeah. So I just send him a message every week letting him know we are thinking of him and love him. Hopefully someday he will come around. |

Congrats!! Sounds like it has been full of blessings for all of you. Sure hope your oldest comes around soon, teenagers can be so hard to understand, especially when they hardly ever understand themselves!

Congrats mama! We are coming up on our Gotcha Day for our oldest two (all three are bio sibs also, but youngest DD was adopted 1st, then her older brother and sister 1.5 year later--long story... gotta love the foster system!) Sorry to hear that you are having a rough patch right now. Hoping oldest DS is in touch soon.
