I have my mom's wedding silver and china that she received for graduation(a least what's left of it), I have been thinking about making shadow boxes for my daughter and my two sisters with a piece of the china and a place setting of the silver. Does that seem like a good gift idea to you?
I would paint the shadow boxes to make them a little more feminine and add a picture of mom and some pretty fabric to the back.

I think it sounds like a GREAT idea but then I'm not sure my sisters would agree so I would hesitate to make one for them. Do your sisters and daughter come to your house? Could you make one up and hang and get their reaction?
My 83yo mother just moved out of her home after 47 years and I'm finding that not everyone feels the same way about her 'treasures.' I would hate for you to go through the effort and then find out that they don't really appreciate it.

It is a great idea.
Plus - they get a great memory of her, a tidbit of sentiment with the china, silver but not burdened to store a whole bunch of place settings. (who has that much room anymore).
Very thoughtful!

We are all pretty sentimental, especially when it comes to our mom, so I think they would like them.

I'd treasure something like that - Do it. It gives me an idea about my grandmothers tea set.

Very thoughtful! When None of us kids had the room to store all of my Grandma's good china, my Mom gave us each one place settings. I am really happy to have it but it just sits in the basement in a box. I love your idea, Grammanisi. I'm going to try something similar with Grandma's china. 5 hours ago Quote Edit

I would appreciate the pieces themselves, the photo, and the sentiment, but I would have a difficult time fitting a shadow box in my decor. They're a little too old for my taste

I would love that. In fact I may do that for myself with some of my grandmothers transferware. It got separated after she died with all of us taking a few pieces. She loved that stuff. She had some blue and some red. I have a little bit of both. Might do a couple and give to my daughter one day.

I would LOVE it, but i'm into sentimental gifts! My 25th wedding anniversary was a few months ago. My parents gave me the silver tea set that my father gave his parents on their 25th anniversary!
Absolutely love it because of the story that goes along with it! I totally love things with a story behind them so i'd love your gift.
