I told my husband the other day that if Trump is elected president,we will move back to Germany. And i am NOT joking. I will not live in a country "lead" by a racist. He agrees.

I"m always amazed at the presumption anyone can move to any other country anytime they please... as if the US is the ONLY country globally with immigration laws/restrictions. I'm secretly hoping that Australia needs software executives and substitute teachers. DH and I would definitely be assets to the Aussie workforce! If Trump gets elected, please tell me Australia will take in talented refugees! Or Refupeas, as the case may be. .au is one of the hardest countries to immigrate to. Sorry. You'll have to bring more to the table most likely.

enjoy paying taxes in two countries. I won't have to,but even if that was the case,it would be a very small price to pay to be far far away from a hateful racist bigot like Trumo, and all of his delusional supporters.

Alaska and Hawaii....aparantly all the uneducated are not voting for him.
I'm willing to move either of those places, regardless of who is elected.

enjoy paying taxes in two countries. This isn't true. My dad pays German taxes which is more than his tax rate here. When he files here he actually gets money back.

We are relocating to Canada for work this summer, and after a ton of research our accountant has assured us that it's highly unlikely we'll get double-taxed. There is an income threshold over which you could, but if we pay more in Canada, it's very very unlikely you'll get double-taxed by the states. Also applying for Visas and work permits is a total pain in the ass, so anyone who wants to do it should start the process now. So. Much. Freakin. Paperwork. On the flip side, many US professions are granted work permits in Canada fairly easily under NAFTA, as long as you have someone who wants to hire you. So while the process is tedious, it's relatively easy to get approved once you're done with the eleventy billion forms and pay thousands of dollars in lawyer fees.

My husband is Canadian. I'm British. We always have the option of moving either place (and possible other countries in Europe too).
Would we do so if Trump was elected? Quite possibly. We've also talked about moving to central or south America. It's not just talk for us. He would be the most disgusting embarrassment for the US. Not to mention he's a complete and utter asshole.

If you still hold a British passport Zella you'd be OK but it isn't for your DH. He would only be allowed to stay 2 years on a spouse visa unless of course he has a parent/grandparent who was British then he can stay for 10 years on an Ancestry visa.

So UK residents are only allowed to have a spouse live with them for 2 years? What happens after that? Also, I believe he does have a British grandparent.

My dh was in the front row for that speech, it is eye wateringly hilarious to hear him tell the story! the general didn't miss a beat but the other military advisers had a harder time keeping straight faces. I guess that's why dh was never a general, lol.

I'm not sure of all the incidental details Zella I was assuming that he would want to work here. It might be different if he didn't. I do know that it isn't such an automatic right for a a person from a commonwealth country as it used to be. Check on this link Apply to settle in the UK

Central or South America could well be the best places to think about. If Trump gets elected as President he might be 'the most disgusting embarrassment for the US' but if he carries out what he's said about Muslims etc., then he could be more than that to the UK and Europe........he could be a great danger to us as the resulting backlash could well be felt in the UK and Europe first as usual.

Yes, but you are a woman and he treats women good! So good. But, ONLY if they have a beautiful face. And a great body - like his daughter Ivanka - who he totally wants to bang, if she weren't, you know, his own daughter

Well, I'll admit that I said that if Trump wins I'd move to the moon. Still working on the logistics of it, but I don't think anywhere on Earth will be safe. The man is a nuclear war waiting to happen.

Well, I'll come out and say that I'm not going anywhere no matter who wins. I've survived Texas under Greg Abbott - and while Trump may be worse, he's not that much worse.

DH is an American citizen living in Canada (permanent resident in Canada). He files tax returns in both countries, but only has to pay Canadian taxes.
