I am a professional at it too lol! being a heart patient. and a few joint surgery most recent shoulder. Lots of good advice already. Theres different meds they give you. My prefered choice is phenegran.Sometimes they'll give me ice chips. Then when I get home I'll just have toast for the first day or so just so my stomach can settle depends on the surgery. They can also give you a prescription when you get home so if they give you the hard meds for recover and they make you sick so you can take the phengran with that to help the nausea too. It's my go to for surgery and Dh as well. He's worse than me in recovery.I'm just more experienced LOL. p.s. I have gotten the post op migranes but the phengran helps with that to because of the nausea but whatever the pain med seem to help. It's usually because I'm doped up.
Good luck with everything...!

After my endoscopy my mom said that I kept telling her that all the cars in the parking garage were different I wasn't wobbly or 'drugged', but was very relaxed and took the time to notice all the little things around me...lol

Best of luck with your upcoming surgery.
I haven't read any of the previous responses, but I have to say that I actually have loved the few times that I have been under general anesthesia, as weird as that may sound.
Twice I was able to leave the hospital same day, the third time I had to remain overnight. I had no negative reaction to the anesthesia, no nasuea whatsoever.
I do remember that coming out of it on at least one occasion, I was a bit loopy, babbling to the nurses about what a great hospital it was, and what a great job they did, etc.
I have always had a hard time falling asleep, my mind never seems to want to shut off, and when I do sleep I dream so much. I have never woken from sleep, whether it was a five minute cat nap, or several hours, without it being from a dream.
I enjoy the sensation of falling asleep immediately under anesthesia, of just 'conking out'. And then waking with no memories, no dreams to recall, etc. I have always found it weirdly refreshing and an unique experience.
I hope that all goes well for you and that you won't have any adverse effects from the general anesthesia.

It's going to be okay. I hate going under anesthesia, so you're not alone in your fears. Nausea is a huge problem for me, too. I had to go under in March for an endometrial ablation. The anesthesiologist was excellent at calming me. He also asked very specific questions about previous experiences with anesthesia so he could mix up a "good brew" as he called it. Whatever he did worked. I had no nausea. I went home about 3 hours after the procedure and slept the rest of the day. But unlike previous experiences, I had no other effects after that first day. In the past, it's taken me up to a week to shake off the weariness I felt. So I was very pleased at the ease of this experience. Don't be afraid to tell the doctors about the nausea. And ask for meds to combat it if necessary. I completely agree. I'll be sending out positive, calming vibes. Best wishes.

Sweet Elaine, one minute you will be talking to the doctors and the next minute you will be waking up. I've been *under* at least 5-10 times starting when I was 2 1/2 for my tonsils and they were all a piece of cake. Hugs to you.

I remember when I had my thyroid surgery, they gave me Fentanyl and instead of relaxing me it WIRED me up big time. I woke up in the recovery room WIDE awake, sat straight up and was demanding my panties! Then I saw my surgeon across the room and I was waving at him like a maniac! It is funny I remember it all but I could not stop myself from doing it! LOL! Then I got a killer migraine headache. Probably from sitting straight up so fast. The nurse was laughing but freaking out a little at me.
