Are you ready to paint and have fun? Are you ready to get messy? If you have never done an art journaling page, now is your time to try it out. For this challenge, we are going to create an art journaling page of any size. Go big, go small, it doesn’t matter. THE CHALLENGE: To create your page, look at the recipe ingredients provided below. You must pick three ingredients to use on your page. You MUST use at least three of these items but you can use more if you would like. You can also add your own ingredients just as long as you have used at least three from the list below. Please tell us what ingredients you used when you post your page to the gallery. And now for the Challenge Rules: CHALLENGE RULES: *Post a photo of your project in the 2peasrefugee flickr group named with the challenge (NC15—Ch 8) to count toward prizes. It would be great if you could also link to the challenge thread. *Projects must be of NEW work, not previously done. Honor system. *Please follow the specific description provided. Any questions, just ask away. *ALL projects MUST be submitted BEFORE Sunday, November 15, 2015 at 11:59pm EST. *Challenges CANNOT be combined UNLESS stated in challenge description. This challenge does not provide an individual award, but participation in this challenge enters you into the group random drawing for challenge participants. RECIPE INGREDIENTS: *Create your background using the technique in the video: dinastamps.typepad.com/ponderings/2015/05/how-to-create-a-flowy-background-with-dina-wakley-media-paint.html*acrylic paints *mists *gelatos *stamps *washi tape *stencils *a quote or scripture *shapes such as circles, squares, diamonds, etc. *book paper *sewing Here is my sample page. From the recipe, I used the background technique from the video, acrylic paints, stamps, stencils, a scripture, shapes, book paper, and sewing. To see more photos and products I used, see my blog post here: triplethescraps.blogspot.com/2015/11/an-art-journaling-challenge.htmlThanks for joining in, and I can’t wait to see what you create!

Thanks Patter, you said I would be able to join in even though I don't have paints. I have never created an art journal page so I am excited to participate in this challenge. Don't be to critical folks since this will be my very first attempt at anything this artistic.

Can I say I'm terrified by this challenge? I like playing with inks and mists and messy things but there's just something about art journaling that scares me.

Let go of perfection and just play. It's like being back in preschool.

Your page is amazing, Patter!
I've never art journaled, but I'd love to give it a whirl. I'm looking forward to watching the video!

I cannot tell you how excited I am that y'all want to play along. I used to be a perfectionist. Playing and "throwing paint" as I call it has taught me to just embrace imperfections and all. It has been SO wonderful for me. I hope you feel the same way. There will be absolutely NO judging at all from me. I just hope you enjoy finding out something new about yourself or a technique. I would be happy to share my steps and answer any questions that you have. I hope to help y'all in any way I can. Also, here is the photo of my page after watching the video. My blog explains it a little more but thought you might like to see the page too. Also, if you don't have paints and want to try some, run to Hobby Lobby or a craft store and pick up 3 colors of the $1 paints. That's all you would need but you certainly don't have to buy a thing! I just wanted to mention that if you wanted to try some acrylics. I use those paints all of the time too. Enjoy everyone!

My project is in the works. I am not sure I am doing it right as i have never Art Journaled before. I am counting on you all to tell me what I have done wrong after I post (probably tomorrow), so that maybe I can better understand Art Journalling.

Can't wait to see what y'all create. And remember, there is no right or wrong with art journaling. It's all about finding your style.

Oh I want to play... I have stuff but am terrified of the blank page Don't be terrified. You can do it! I was scared when I first started several years ago, and now it is my passion even more than scrapbooking. I included that background tutorial because I am hoping it will help those of you that are new to art journaling get a little something down on the page. Watch the video and try it. You will be surprised. And don't mess with it once you put the color down like she says. Let it dry and be as it is. Then you can layer on top and it just gets better and better from there. Can't wait to see what you do, and feel free to ask questions!

Here's my quick page. But I already had the idea semi-sketched out from the GloryArt Scripture challenges. NC15-Ch8 by Lisa Davolt, on Flickr I used mists on the sewing pattern flowers, acrylic paint on the background. The pink paint is used with a stencil and there is some stencils whirlygigs that are in a metallic pearl which is really hard to see. I used a scripture. I used circle shapes and the butterfly is made from a wonky heart punch. And a book page for my vase. There is also some stamped clounds and a hot air balloon at the top which may not be viewable in the photo, they're hard to see in real life - or maybe I just need to dig out my glasses. Patter, thanks for hosting this. I so needed to play.

Well I've actually started this challenge. So far it has been really difficult not to go back in and try to make things more perfect. I'm also trying to make it something I can add into my travel album after I'm done. I'm hoping to get it finished tonight.

I just did some flowy backgrounds. It was remarkably fun for someone who doesn't paint. I followed your instructions, and I'm just letting it dry. I'm going to play with them more tonight and eventually turn them into cards. This is entirely new to me -- cutting edge technique for me is simple stamping.

maryannscraps I'm with you. Once the painted background dried I realised how much I loved it and now I don't want to put anything else on because I just love it the way it is.

NC15 CH 8 by Kelly Roberts, on Flickr
Here is my journal page. I haven't done art journaling in a while so it was fun to try it again. I used shapes, stencils, acrylic paints and a quote I made. Also, I used some removeable tape to create the white strips. On Flickr I have another close up pic too. Thanks for the challenge!

kellyr21 I love the soft colour choices in your piece. I've left you some love in the gallery.
It turned out I really did love my first piece too much to add anything else to it so I've put it aside to save for when I use it in my travel album ... and made another one. This will be cut down to a 4x6 card and go in a pocket page on Amsterdam.
From the challenge list I used a stencil, mist, stamping and the background technique from the video (although all my lines went the same way on the page). I used watercolours in place of the acrylic paints.

kellyr21, love the colors and sentiment on this. The background reminds me of balloons and it just makes me happy! Terrific job! Chinagirl828, love the softness and warmth of your piece. Reminds me of a summer afternoon bike ride. Really nice!

Well, I've been working at this for a couple of hours now, and here is what I came up with. I turned it into a tag to use on a page layout (continuing DD's album in pinks and plums). There are things I would change, but it was great experience in mixed media. I used leftover craft paint from Girl Scout project days, and went with a color scheme to use with Simple Stories So Fancy paper. (The additional distressing is where my thumb smeared the stamp before it dried ) I finished it off with gold mist, so I'll pick that up with other page elements, and will probably layer journaling and a few other things before it's done.

Everybody did such a great job on this challenge ! I've never done this before , my head was saying one thing and my hand doing the opposite. I used a scripture, book page ( middle of sun) and shapes. Not quite happy with it but I definitly want to keep practicing.

This was a really fun challenge, Patter. I made two more birthday cards for my mother. From the challenge list I used acrylic paints with the background technique on the video. Then I used turquoise and blue glimmer mists. I stamped backgrounds in blue and black, and embossed some of them. To cover up a few black ink smudges, I added some brads with a triangle of that weird paper (can't remember what it's called.) And the other card had some navy blue circles stamped in there.
