Ugh, guys and their two dimensional thinking! LOL! I think your dd WOULD love that - can you imagine if you found your grandmother's journal, and it talked about a special song, and had the lyrics, and WHY it meant so much to your grandmother? Oh MAN...you just reminded me of a precious moment I got to spend with my Dad, literally four days before he passed away. We were in his hospital room, and he was kind of going all over the place with reminiscing about my childhood, and his childhood, and everything in between. Then, he asked me if I'd like for him to sing the song that my parents chose for their wedding song. ( My parents had divorced back when I was in 9th grade, and my mom passed away when I was pg with my middle son, but my Dad never spoke ill of my mom, and this was just, a TREASURE he gave me....) anyway, it was just the two of us, and my dad and I were holding hands, and he began to sing....I can't tell you how much that moment meant to me... So, wow, now I'm in tears, and thinking about how much you NEED to document those songs. I can picture a smaller, like 8x8 album, just of the songs of your life, and what they say to you. The things we think are insignificant, can become at some moment, to someone, the most precious memory and gift that could be given. Trust me, I know.

This is a great idea!!! Thanks so much for sharing. I have random photos scattered about that I want to scrap this way, but have never thought about a box to keep them all together and scrap them randomly while between other projects. Thanks again!

So Cindy, I've been mulling over your idea for the last few days. And I think I'm going to steal it. I have a ridiculous amount of scrapbooks that are in chronological order, but I haven't gotten very far in any of them because it's overwhelming and, let's face it, how many layouts do I need of DS18 playing in the snow when he was 2.
So my title for my album is going to be "The Story of Us" This way I can add each kid into the fold when they were born but I can go backwards too and add pics of myself and of DH from when we were little. I don't think I need to scrap every single picture I own, I think for now I will just put those printed pics (pre-digital) in an album and label them.
I still haven't decided if it will be digital or traditional (kids love the traditional) but I at least now have a starting point
So Thank you!!!!!!

Thank you so much for sharing your idea with us. It really got me thinking. Most of my layouts are event based and not a lot of journaling. I have so many stories to share with my kids and reminders of stories they may have forgotten.
The very first thing that came to mind is I need to take a photo of DH with our beat up old van. It's a purple 1999 Plymouth Voyager, otherwise known as the Barney-Mobile. The paint is popping off, it simply looks horrible. But we have had so many memories and good times in that van. Now it's just used as an airport car for my husband when he flies and we always say - at least it's paid for! Now that would be a great title for the page - At Least It's Paid For.

"I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith
I could stay awake just to hear you breathing, Watch you smile while you are sleeping, While you're far away and dreaming, I could spend my life in this sweet surrender, I could stay lost in this moment forever, When every moment spent with you is a moment I treasure.
(Chorus) I don't wanna close my eyes, I don't wanna fall asleep, Cause I'd miss you babe, And I don't wanna miss a thing, Cause even when I dream of you, The sweetest dream would never do, I'd still miss you babe, And I don't wanna miss a thing.
Lying close to you, feeling your heart beating, And I'm wondering what you're dreaming, Wondering if it's me you're seeing, And then I kiss your eyes, And thank God we're together, I just wanna stay with you in this moment forever, Forever and ever.
(Chorus)
And I don't wanna miss one smile, I don't wanna miss one kiss, I just wanna be with you, Right here with you, just like this, Well I just wanna hold you close, And feel your heart so close to mine, And just stay here in this moment, For all the rest of time Yeah (yeah) yeah (yeah) yeah
(Chorus repeated 2 times)
Don't wanna close my eyes Don't wanna fall asleep, yeah I don't wanna miss a thing

I love this idea. It sounds like the perfect project to use all the special papers and embellies on and I love the idea of storing all the photos and random memories in a box as you find them. I really hope you'll post your finished pages somewhere and share your progress with us.

It just instantly brought back his sweet head on my shoulder, and his sweet baby smell... THANK YOU so much for this. This is the one for my middle son, who just started college a few weeks ago...so my emotions are running high with thoughts of him growing up as it is. You know, how cool to do this right NOW, and I can journal about how I felt about him then, and, I now have the time perspective that he is pretty much grown and independant now. How blessed I am for each smile and memory I've been given with him.....UGH! I think this may be the first page in my album. I have a feeling I"m going to cry for the entire time I do it, though!

Love your idea. Plus all the others that have come from it. I'm going to bookmark this so I can go back and read them all a couple times. One of my DH's favorite sayings is about when you throw a stone into the lake, it doesn't just sink. Look at all the ripples. Which I think is what happened with your idea.

That's how 80% of every page is, that I have done in my 18 years of scrapbooking. I have pictures that I haven't scrapped because they were "too special" to just slap in a yearly album. And I think I mentioned this before, but I think that's why I get so stuck now, because while I enjoy the process of scrapping, and I want to document the vacation/holiday/etc....vacations and holidays are not unique to our family. I want to make a meaningful keepsake that is uniquely US. I LOVE taking a gazillion photos, especially on vacations. I noticed about 12 years ago, that it's become a bit of a "thing" for me that by the end of the vacation, even though I have taken those gazillion photos, there's usually one photo that stands out, that represents the entire vacation for me. Most of the time, at least in the earlier trips when the kids were younger, that photo would revolve around one of the kids. sometimes its a scenery photo, sometimes something else. But, THOSE photos, I want to go in this book. One example is from our trip to Cozumel 4 years ago. We went to celebrate my dd's high school graduation. We were staying at an older, all inclusive hotel, so we had full access to all the soda we wanted, but no iced tea. (we're from Texas, yall, and I actually have a sonic sweet tea on my desk as I type this! LOL!) We could have stayed in Cozumel forever, except for that one fact - we were CRAVING and missing our sweet tea! Heck ANY kind of tea would have been great! So, one day we rent a car to explore the island, and we find this really cool restaurant/bar, Coconuts. We stop for lunch, I ask if they have tea, and the dude says yes, so I get all excited and order sweet tea. Everyone else at the table had already ordered but ended up changing their order to sweet tea. YAY!!!!! We were ridiculous! LOL! We each had at least two refills each, but the service wasn't all that great, and we couldn't figure out what the deal was, he was so reluctant to bring us more tea each time we requested it. I have the coolest photo of that coveted glass of tea served in a heavy margarita glass, sitting on the table with the beach in the background. HEAVEN, I tell you. So eventually we get the bill for our meal, and DH starts laughing....we had forgotten that we weren't at the all inclusive...and no free refills like in most other restaurants.....we had spent $55 in lunch for 6 people,( fajita nachos, fish tacos, etc. not just chips and salsa) and we had spent $65 ( SIXTY. FIVE. DOLLARS.) on sweet tea. And, we knew that the tea was just the lipton instant stuff, but man, it was SO good! I now have a framed photo of that tea in my guest room. WHO SPENDS $65 on INSTANT TEA!?!?

I even started thinking about some kind of prompt series or something, to jump start the creative ideas for more pages that could go in the albums, for all of us. I have a list of memories and thoughts I want to include that don't revolve around a specific photo, ( like the songs) but I bet between us all we could come up with some awesome prompts to share, things we haven't thought about before.

I have a favorite photos book that I have not kept up, but it has those photos that I look at and immediately say, I want to remember this. I think I am going to take your idea and add the stories as well.
A book I have in my mind that would be my 'take this book' is one where for each person in my family I do a 12 x12 spread of their life, so maybe a photo from each decade of their life or special events and write about that person - what I want other people to know about their life. I would start with a baby or earliest photo and even possibly - don't get skeeved - include a casket photo for those I have them - the full circle, or a picture of their grave stone. This would be so easy to put together and would encapsulate our lives into a manageable format all in one book.

This is my first time posting to these boards and just saw this thread and love your ideas so much! I am so inspired to do exactly this. I have started a 6x8 of some stories that are special (only have a few in it) but I am going to add to it and put photos in a special box and my thoughts, special verses, songs, and memories I don't want to forget as you suggested. This will be my one album to grab. I am wondering if it needs to be bigger than a 6x8 now. Loved reading everyone's ideas - so much inspiration.

I thought of looking at photos and picking out objects and scrapping them, not necessarily the people. Like my grandma's built in china cabinet. The built in corner shelves, the popcorn ceilings that glittered,.... I had thought of a clever title for the album, but now the name is escaping me.

A 6x8 album would definitely be easy to grab in case of emergency. If you ran out of space in it, you could start another one or keep it in a box big enough to hold the album and extra photos and journalling. We had to evacuate due to a forest fire a few years ago, and as I lay in bed at a friend's house at 2am wondering if our house would be okay (it was), I suddenly realized I'd forgotten to grab our wedding album. It was in a different spot than our family albums and I still haven't scrapped the photos (we've been married nearly 27 years), so it never crossed my mind to open the cabinet and pull out the pictures. Thankfully nothing happened to our house or belongings, but I need to move those pictures so I remember to grab it next time there's an emergency!
