One of my old students made it into the Guinness Book of Records for giving the most body piercings in a specific number of hours. Oy.

We had a first grade boy come to school last year with both ears pierced "like dad." I gather the other boys teased him pretty relentlessly about it, because the earrings came out within a week or so.

I told aforementioned son he had to wait until he was 16. He waited until he was 17 for the first & 18 for the second. One of my old students made it into the Guinness Book of Records for giving the most body piercings in a specific number of hours. Oy. Giving is better than getting, I suppose! Where I live, guys seem to pierce both ears, or no ears. I love the look of both ears pierced on a guy, but don't like how gauges look at all. Ditto. I'm actually really traditional and pretty conservative when it comes to style, but I like a guy with pierced ears (yeah, yeah, like Bruce Springsteen), but HATE gauges. OMG, they actually make me a little queasy. Me, too! And people who have them in cheeks or lip areas are worse! (I don't mean the people, the gauges!)

My DH has his ears pierced, when we were first dating he wore earrings all the time. (Studs of some sort usually.) Although now, because of his current job he no longer wears them.

I saw a young man yesterday with the biggest gauges I have seen. I think he was in the early 20's. They were huge. At least 2 1/2 inches. It's so odd how those things stick out from the head. Looks so uncomfortable. I wonder how long that fad will last? Piercings I can understand. But the gauges will need some serious plastic surgery if and when the person changes his mind.

The only people I notice with earrings around here anymore are the thugs wearing those stupid huge (fake) stones and a few guys that I know are gay. My ex tried it. He looked stupid. I also see it on older men (think over 50) who had them for years.

Ear piercings - besides gauges - don't seem to be very popular with guys around here. Piercing everything else, sure. But I don't notice many garden-variety ear piercing on younger men anymore (one ear or two). The men with that are generally my age or older (so 40 and up).

All of the younger males I knew with pierced ears have both ears pierced. There seems to be no correlation between ear piercing and sexual orientation. It's only the older mid-life crisis hetero dudes that have one ear pierced -- usually with a diamond stud. So klassy....Someone better send Harrison Ford the memo... He needs to get with the program

Equating piercings with sexuality is ridiculous.

DH's left ear is pierced. I have never seen him actually wear an earring. He's pushing 50, but the ear was pierced in his late teens. He was in his 20s when I met him and he had already given up wearing an earring. The hole is still noticeable, though--if you look. It has never closed over all of these years. For him it was during his long hair, dressed in ripped jeans & boots, metal band phase, LOL. I laugh because he's about as far from that as can be, now.

Years and years ago guys seem to just have one ear piercing but now they all seem to go for two. And there's a fair sprinkling of eyebrow and nose piercings too! I agree with all of this. Only one ear just means you're old, and the younger guys around here are going for gauges in both. I'm not fond of them. They look awful when the metal comes out!

Ds is 26 and doesn't have any piercings and I'm pretty sure most of his friends don't either. I don't think its a "thing" around here with that age group. Don't you love it when they buck the trend My ds is 34 has played in several death metal/black metal bands and many/most of his fellow musicians/friends have multiple piercings and tattoos while ds has zero of each. I love that he can go against what everyone else is doing

Gauges? Is that the thingies some guys put in their earlobes? Never knew what they were called...saw a guy the other night who had them in his lobes and they were better than an inch in diameter! Can you imagine what those lobes will look like in 40- 50 years?

I have three sons, two have their ears pierced. One is gay, the other is not. In all honesty the fact this thread was started is beyond irritating to me because I feel the op is trying to single out those that are gay. Not sure if that was the intent from the op, but the mama bear in me is really pissed off. Why in the hell does in matter??? What if it did mean that? My kids were over 18 and out of my home when they did it, I would not allow it - but it is their choice and I love them just the same. Not trying to be harsh but this whole thread just rubs me the wrong way.

When I met my dh, he had both ears pierced. It didn't last long though, and he took them out.

Not trying to be harsh but this whole thread just rubs me the wrong way. Seriously? Take a chill pill. NEVER used the word gay. NEVER even hinted. So is getting both ears (as opposed to just one) pierced the norm these days? Well, hopefully those of you who said 2 are the norm now are right. He got his left ear done last summer (which his ancient mother didn't mind) and came home last nite w/the other one done. Hoping it will grow on me, but I really don't like it. I would go back to trying to get him to sleep thru the nite or potty training in a heartbeat! Too funny - when I was giving him a hard time about it, Bruce (who he knows I ADORE) was the example he gave. I was tempted to say, "When you're living on your own and are as successful as Bruce, have at it.", but I held my tongue. We'll see if it grows on me . . . Just wanted to know if that's what the kids were doing these days. But thanx for the handslap.

I think it was a great question especially if you have kids. It has nothing to do with sexuality at all. It has to do with people wanting to be who they are going to be.
