Yikes! That was a bad day. I'd have told the lady you wanted $1.5 mil for the humiliation she just caused you and your son by screaming "He's got the lice" to the entire salon (Please know I am kidding!!!)
We dealt with it in Sept with dd. It was a pain.

Oh, boy. That's a very bad day! Hope the lice gets killed quickly and quietly. Leave no survivors.

I love the way you told the story, even if the content was a pain in the butt day.
I also am impressed that in the heat of the moment, you didn't cave to the $150 disinfection fee bullying.

Seriously $150 to clean up after lice. Glad you didn't pay it. Some people go crazy about them. If just 4 adults it looks like you got there early. Just wash his hair, cover in conditioner and with a lice comb go through it, 1 inch sections and check the comb for lice each time. Then rinse before combing the next inch. I only wash their pillow case and don't share hair brushes or towels. I repeat the hair combing every three days for 3 weeks. That way I can get all the new ones hatched from eggs. Then its done and all the blighters should be caught. We put a dvd on and sit and watch it as I go through their hair that makes it a little less of a drama. But I hear you they are a pain

And now for a serious question- ds had four of the damn critters. No eggs that dh or I could see, all the same size. What are the odds that he actually got them today when they were doing all kinds of groups/sports/clubs pictures for school? Ds said they were "doing poses and stuff". From experience - he probably does have some nits. They are SO very tiny and hard to see. Park him where you can get some bright sunlight shining on his head. I atually had to use a jewelers loupe to see some of the tiny nits. Use a magnifying glass to make sure. Depending on his hair color, they can be almost invisible, and they will be stuck hard to the hair shaft when they are new. Buzzing or cutting hair won't get rid of them. They are almost on the scalp. They stick on at the base of the hair shaft. You have my sympathy! LOL

For some wonderful reason, I have zero experience with lice. My son never brought any home. We did get letters twice, but he escaped bug free. I was curious what they look like and went to YouTube. Oh my God! I just watched someone combing a butt load of wiggly things on this kid's head. And she just kept combing, she didn't wipe them off! If my son had come home like that, there is no doubt in my mind, I would have shaved his head. Seriously, how quickly do these things breed? Please tell me that there is no way this kid got these in one day. I didn't even finish watching it, it grossed me out so badly. After looking at this, seeing 4 lice seems awfully mild. Which is the more common thing? Four or teeming like the video? m.youtube.com/watch?v=4Dd1KbujrWE

Eekkk... I could only watch that video for a second.
That is an extreme case of lice. That poor kid.

I'm sorry for your headache, admire your banning, and literally laughed out loud as I read "the lice". Here's to a better day tomorrow . . .

Use a Robi Comb instead of chemicals: I work for children's services and this is what we use

Was your son scratching his head before you even went to the salon? I wouldn't put it past someone who would charge $150 to get rid of lice to plant them on your son. Then to BAN you?? Bizarre. I got lice once when a girl who was in the homeschool community group my mom made me attend gave them to me on purpose! She was jealous of me. I only ever saw maybe two adults, but the nits make you itch like crazy! My mom cut my thick hair shorter to make it easier to comb through, and we used the shampoo twice with heavy conditioner on my hair for several hours in between to suffocate the little buggers. We also washed everything in my room that could be washed and kept everything else taped up in plastic bags in our cold attic space for two weeks. Never had another problem. When I was in college, a girl across the dorm hall from me brought lice to school!!!! They had to completely strip the room and sanitize and get new mattresses. The girl was taking a foreign language and had gone to the language lab where you have to use headsets. (shudder) There was an epidemic. The nursing students had to do nightly head checks for two months. My roommate was a nursing student, and I would go with her because she would get so lonely. The nits are almost see through. They stick to the hair shaft like glue. Anyone who got lice were quarantined in the campus infirmary and went through treatment. It was horrible.

So sorry. You should be good like others said. We treated everyday for almost a week to be sure. It just sucks. A nursing home around me recently became infested, I could not imagine dealing with that,

We dealt with lice with my daughter recently though she has long thick hair and lots of it. The problem is some other asshole parent is not taking care of it at school and keeps spreading it around. Getting tired of spending all this money over and over again. So frustrating. I hope you have an easier time getting rid of it than I am

Her daughter had gotten it 5 times and they all "knew" it came from a family who didn't bother the help their daughter get rid of it. Finally after someone else threatened to call the news stations they started doing checks and sending kids home

A lot of people do one treatment and a quick comb with the cheapie comb that comes in the box, and then waste a lot of time vacuuming and washing everything in the house. All the while they've left behind a few eggs and a couple of lice that were resistant to the chemical, and a few weeks later they're livid because their child "got lice" from someone else again.

Yeah, I didn't set store by products. I was like one of those mite picking Monkeys grooming another monkey, I just didn't eat the mites.

Shaving my sons heads was the only thing that got rid of them for me. It was horrible, all the combing and washing. Only a few people I would wish that on!
